Well, I read the Circle of Magic books I can't even say how long ago, but to get the picture, it was before Kel even existed in our minds. When I read them at that time, I hated them. I thought they were horrible, but when I started to think about it, I think it was because I was desperate for another Tortall story that blossomed with romance and more knight stuff, and instead I got a whole new world with new characters and unfamilliar places. So I dismissed it. At the time I thought I hated it, but now I realize I never gave it a chance.

Yesterday, after this realization, I decided to give them another go. I went to Barnes and Noble and bought the 4 books of the Circle of Magic. Now I'm HOOKED. I can see TP's brilliant writing style in every word, and I'm loving it. I'm obsessed with some of the characters, mainly Rosethorn. I like Daja and Sandry as well. I'm on book three and can't wait to see where the story goes! I owe TP an apology for neglecting such brilliance for so long. smile

Tell me who your favorite characters are and why you like them.

I love Rosethorn because she's so sassy, Sandry for her willingness to accept everyone, and Daja for her respect for traditions even when she knows they don't make sense.

I like all four kids for different reasons, Lark because she always knows when to say the right thing--and she's ull of surprises, and Rosethorn because she's one of the two people that can keep briar consistently off balance.

Oh, I'm glad you finally like them. They're some of TP's underappreciated books. I personally like all of the Circle, but the three girls best.

I'm heavily biased in favor of Briar and Tris. Probably because they're so snarky. Anyway, I pretty much like all the main characters, some more than others. I'm glad you finally gave the Emelan books a chance. Personally, I usually like the Tortall books, but the Emelan ones definitely have their moments.

I read the Circle books a long time ago too, but what really matters for the purposes of this post is that I read them before I switched high schools when I entered eleventh grade. Of course, somewhere in the back of my mind I knew that Briar and Sandry and Tris and Daja were in an alternative program, but it somehow didn't register until I was reading The Will of the Empress this year. When they mentioned Disipline, I got the urge to go back and reread the original quartet. And once I did... for a couple of days, I couldn't shut up about how I had found the fantasy version of the program I'm in at school. xp

I'm slightly confused. But it sounds interesting. And I don't blame you - I too, am miserable about shutting up about things I'm reading, or have read recently.

Sorry for any confusion. I'm not good at typing my thoughts out. sweatdrop What I meant is that I myself am in an alternative program at school, and upon rereading the Circle of Magic books, I realized that it was kinda like the real-life (and more boring) version of Winding Circle's Disipline cottage. Hope that cleared it up.

Ah. Very neat.

i love briar because of his attitude. tris for her 'prickly' ways. Sandry because she gets things done and daja for being the peacemaker at times

I love Sandry for her nobility, well-bred air, toughness, noble blood, refined prettiness and graceful ways. Oh, and Daja because she's a modernist (nasamohi).

Sandry because, as mentioned before, she gets things done, and Briar and Tris for their attitudes.
