I was introduced by a good friend of mine to a wonderful little creature called a glaucus Atlanticus. What exactly is that? Well, it's only the hawtest invertebrae around! They have amazing colors, and quite an attitude. Not surprisingly, I want pets that resemble these amazing creatures. There are two that I am actively questing at the moment... but I'll add some that I pretty much would still like! Donators

Species: Glaucus atlanticusCommon Name: Blue Glaucus, Blue Sea Slug, Man-o-War (Sea) Slug Order: NUDIBRANCHIA Suborder: AEOLIDINA Family: GLAUCIDAE Biology/Anatomy: "The two nudibranchs feed almost exclusively on Physalia; it appears that they are able to select the most venomous of Physalia's stinging nematocysts for their own use. Like most aeolids, they store the nematocysts in special sacs (cnidosacs) at the tip of their cerata . There are a number of reports in Australia of kids engaged in "Bluebottle" fights - where they throw stranded Physalia at each other - being badly stung by inadvertently playing with Glaucus and Glaucilla, both of which, by concentrating the most venomous of Physalia's nematocysts, are much more deadly. Another interesting feature of the two species is their colouration. They both exhibit a textbook example of colour countershading. Their foot and undersides of the cerata, (which because they float upside down is effectively their dorsal surface), is blue or blue and white which helps to camouflage them from predation (sea birds) from above. Their true dorsal surface, which faces down in the water, is silvery grey to effectively camouflage them from fish looking up from below." They do all that...and they are only about 4cm long! 4laugh Behavior: Interestingly enough, there is not much known about these sea slugs. They usually live pretty far out in the ocean and only come towards land by accident. These sea slugs tend to "go with the flow" of the ocean currents, spending their life floating upside down in the water, partially bouyed by a gas bubble in their stomachs. They live in tight, highly organized groups, usually around Portuguese Men-o-War. Feeding Patterns: I love these little guys. They are "carnivourous", per say. They actually eat and feed off of Men-o-War!!! I love it! Both of them have a mule (and character) named Krys Ricci. I have been trying to get this Krys Ricci-Sea Slug concept (raising funds for, promoting, etc) since a little before November 2005. If you go to the shop, you will find that I already HAVE an IoDM character, Bobby Reynolds. Well, I do, but she was a character that I won... I don't really know how. I entered in the contest just for fun with no intention of winning. It turned out I won, and I lost a lot of sleep over my decision. Even though she is a Greek gypsy, she is a mixture between a modern Greek and American gypsy. -Overview- Krys grew up in Greece with a traveling gypsy group. She lost her eye as a child when she ran into a car bumper while playing with one of her cousins. At the age 14 she was officially-unofficially-illegally married. But, they got divorced when she turned 21 because Krys is barren and cannot have children. Because of her barrenness she was made by the group to go on a cruise over the Pacific Ocean (she was expendable). Before they made it to the United States, some men, in a drunken stupor, threw her overboard. A kind spectator threw her a life raft. She was found by the Island's coast guard and brought to the Island. Concept Two: Fallen PilotThis is my first official slug-concept. I went through about four or five before settling on the sea slug and pilot role. Unfortunately, all that was after the massive October 2005 concept contest. I don't know if I would have gotten anywhere with it there, but... who knows. -Overview- Krys grew up in Nevada, USA. She always loved planes and started flying anything she could touch as soon as was legal. When she went to college (secondary school), she majored in aeronautical engineering. Immediately out of college, Krys got a job with a private business aviation company. She was a pilot for them until she was 27, when she lost her eye in a motorcycle accident. Then, they made her one of their janitors. When she was 28, Krys finished her design for a hybrid plane, of a glider and sea plane. Her friend was going to pilot it ina demonstration, but very early that morning, she hijacked her plane in her incredibly drunken state. Almost out of gas, she reached an Island and marooned herself, where she was discovered and made into a permanent resident. Progress :: 20/20K Click the banner to read everything.
