The sun was barely up, the sky a warm mixture of red, gold and orange and the tide washing softly off the shore. A few birds called in the trees of the nearby forests and many creatures shook off the nights cold touch.
Alyosha stood, waiting outside the center for any sign of life. Acia was waiting inside and, although keen, had decided that she would not be coming out until both the guardians had gone again. She'd been getting worse of late, after he'd had such high hopes about her getting better. The earthquake seemed to have done it - put her in a situation where she didn't feel safe once again.
Ah well, at least it was warm, now. He waited.

Fae looked down at her wrist while rubbing at her eyes. "Well, we should get going now. It's five till." Scooping up the still half asleep Zanzibar, she pushed the door open. Golden red light rushed inside, casting silhouettes of Fae and Pueblo walking down the front steps.
Pueblo held onto her guardian's hand and carried her paint pallet in her other arm; she felt more secure with it. Wide emerald eyes gazed across the yard to the sea where the suttle rushing waves echoed in her ears. She smiled some- the colors of the sky astounded her. She always wondered who was the brilliant artist behind it. She could only dream of painting something like that.
As the two approched the Centre, Fae's haze broke when she saw Alyosha standing there. Here heart quickened a beat and smiled polietly. "Morning, Alyosha."
Pueblo drew close to Fae's leg and peered around conspicuously. Where was Acia and Nehanda?

Alyosha raised a hand in greeting as the trio joined him in front of the Centre. The sun was beginning to spill over the taller mountains now, the air getting steadily warmer. "Fae, hello." he said and, looking down at the eager young child Aerandir, added "Pueblo, how are you? Looking forward to your trip?" . Looking at her now, almost ready to move past her childhood, he remembered back to when she had been no more than a bundle of items carefully placed into a glass jar.
"Sorry that Acia isn't here... she's inside" he addressed Fae again. "She's hiding in her room until both you and Foenix have gone, I'm afraid.." he sighed inwardly at the overtimidness of his Aerandir charge "and Foenix and Nehanda haven't yet arrived." he paused, looking over Fae's shoulder to see if there was any sign of the missing two.

Nehanda ran along the path toward the centre, as she had so many times before. But this time was different! She was meeting Acia and Pueblo! The sun was barely beginning to reach its light through the trees as she glanced back over her shoulder. "Foenix, hurry up! I don't want to be late!" She hitched her small carry-sak higher over her shoulders, so that it didn't interfere with the movement of her large, snowy wings.
Foenix blew out a breath as she caught up with her young charge. "Don't worry, hun, it's only another minute until we're there! I promise they won't leave without you."
Sure enough, as they passed the final bend of bushy plants, there were Aly, Fae, and Pueblo. Foenix wasn't particularly surprised that Acia wasn't present. She remember from their previous encounters that the adult Aerandir was practically terrified of most humans. "Morning, folks. Sorry to have kept you waiting." She looked knowingly over to Aly. "I'm assuming Acia is inside or something?" She smiled and shrugged, understanding the pretty Aerandir's fears.
Nehanda immediately stopped at Pueblo's side. "I'm really excited. How 'bout you? Are you nervous?" She stopped her barrage of questions and touched her friend's hand. "We're gonna be together to whole way."
"That's exactly right, Nehanda." Foenix stooped to give her little girl a fierce hug. "You're going to have an amazing time. I can't wait to hear about everything when you get home." Straightening, she grinned over at Fae. "What do you say we get out of here, and give Acia and the girls a little breathing space? You can come back to my place for tea, if you like." She looked over at Aly. "I guess that's it. Nehanda's got everything she should need, so I'm trusting Acia with her safety."
Even though she liked and trusted the shy Aerandir, she was finding it very hard to step away.
Nehanda looked between the adults and sighed. When were they gonna leave?

Pueblo flinched and looked up to Aly. Oh, he was talking to her? She merely nodded her head and stared at him, however still clenching onto her guardian's pant leg. She never knew what to say, especially when her head was bubbling with questions that were bound to be answered anyway; they polluted her thoughts. Despite the noise in her head, she finally smiled at him. He was such a welcoming guy for waring such somber colors. It kind of confused her.
Fae patted Pueblo's head reassuringly and looked through her glasses at Aly. "Oh, I understand. I wish the best for you in helping Acia then," she slightly smiled. She picked up on his frustrations right away and decided to offer some friendly luck.
Bitting her inner lip, she felt Aly's eyes resting on her shoulder and stood there awkwardly. Finally crooking her neck around, she followed his line of sight and instantly felt a wave of reassurance come over her. Foenix was here now and she didn't feel so alone and wrecked.
Pueblo already knew and hopped from one comfort zone to the next. Holding Nehanda's hand momentarily, her tail wagged and accepted the bombarded questioning. "I'm excited, but nervous too. Fae's not gonna be there.. but you will so, I's got everything I need." Suddenly her body trembled, but it stopped as soon as it begun.
When she heard Foenix greeting them off, her heart leapt. "Wait! I'm not ready yet!!" Quickly letting go, she bolted right into Fae's arms and hugged her tightly. "I'll be back soon, don't worry. Goodbye, Pie." She stroked the sleepy gryphon who cooed at her. She smiled then nuzzled her guardian again. "I love you."
Tears wanted to creep out of her glossy eyes, but she wouldn't allow herself to melt in front of everyone. She ran her fingers through her child's hair, giving her one last look. Changes were going to made, but she was convinced that they were only for the best. "I love you too, Abby. Well get going. I'll see you in a few days and every moment that you're gone I'll be thinking of you." She grinned and gathered herself up.
Turning to Foenix, she sniffled and nodded meekly. "Tea sounds lovely." Craddling Zanzibar in her arms, she started to leave with Foenix. Looking back to Aly, she looked him in the eyes with ever so much graditude. Thank you she mouthed to him, then turned once again to leave with her best friend beside her.

As soon as both of the owners had left Acia, watching from a peekhole in the double doors of the Center, came out shyly. She had heard all that was said and felt slightly foolish and embarrassed that her shyness caused so much trouble. The understanding nods of the humans had made her feel like a child again - she often felt so much younger than Rahujo and Osero, more still a youth than an adult.
Acia remembered the time when she was taken over to the Island, Osero was still a youth himself at the time taking the small, happy child Aerandir on a trip she'd end up never forgetting. It had been both good and bad, she'd learned things which had uplifted her and others which had left her with this lingering fear.
The shyness had mostly started there, at that time. She just hoped that things would be a little less troublesome for Nehanda and Pueblo.
Spotting the little ones she grinned. She hadn't seen Nehanda in such a long time and she wasn't sure she'd ever seen more than the photographs taken of Pueblo in the logbooks. "Hi!" she said, kneeling down to their height "Are you both ready to go?" her long, fine wings flared slightly to help her balance.
Off to one side she noticed Alyosha smile a little and wave as he walked back into the Center. "Have a good time." he called over his shoulder.
"We need to meet Osero at the tip of this Island, he has a boat waiting there for us. Have you been on a boat before?" she addressed them both. Standing she indicated the way and held out her warm, fur covered hands to each, tail swishing happily. "Can you both hold my hands until we get there?" Acia really did mean to keep her promise that both would be safe and was happily in her element in the company of other Aerandir.

Nehanda ran forward to throw her arms around Acia's neck in an eager hug. "I was really worried 'bout you after the balcano eruption!" she cried. "I'm glad you're okay, tho." Releasing the lion Aerandir, she nodded in response to her question. "I took the ferry over to Ar'Idil for the Summer Festival! And Foenix and I took a boat part of the way when she took me over to the mainland! I like boats; I like the water, too! It's so pretty."
She realized that she was babbling somewhat in her eagerness, and flushed. "Uh, I gots my stuff with me, an Foenix gave me sandwiches. She's always trying to feed ebryone."
Nehanda reached back for Pueblo's hand. "Peblo an me are ready to go whenever you want. Bye, Aly! Thanks a lot!" She waved farewell to the man as he disappeared inside the Centre. She looked back to Acia and Pueblo. This was gonna be really, really important; she knew that, but suddenly felt no fear or nerves. She had two of the people she liked most in the world with her, and they'd be together all the way.

Pueblo watched the humans off until Acia came outside. Never actually meeting her before, what her guardian had said about her was true: Acia was pretty. An instant fondness grew inside Pueblo and nodded her head. "I also brought my paint pallet an' brush. I hopes that's okay... I don't feel complete without it." She wondered idly if she was the only one that felt that way. Ever since she was a wisp was the last she could remember.
Gladly accepting Acia's hand, Pueblo waved with her other at Aly before looking up to the bigger Aerandir. "Osero's coming with us?!" she asked enthusiastically before stopping herself. Boat? Refraining from sounding stupid, she merely replied, "No, I haven't been on 'un 'afor." She looked at Nehanda who seemed more confident, however.

Acia smiled down at the enthusastic youngsters. Answering NEhanda, as they began to walk, she said "I was worried about all of you, too! It was really scary, wasn't it?". Acia's mind cast back to the horrific winter events, a slight shudder coming over her. As more people d come to the ISlands so, it seemed, the earth had become unstable. Perhaps she was reading too much into this, she'd have a chance to find out soon, anyway.
"Of course bringing your paintbrush and pallete along is fine" she answered Pueblo" understanding the need to keep the bonded item close. She herself had her staff strapped across her back, held in place with a sturdy piece of rope wrapped intricately around her wings.
"I'm afraid we may need to leave the sanwhiches in the boat when we get to the place we're going Nehanda, there isn't supposed to be anything human made there." Nehanda said this, feeling slightly silly but a rule was a rule and the sandwiches were made by Foenix who was a human probably shouldn't be brought to the Island just in case.
"And yes, Osero will be with us, he's supposed to be getting food, helping us stay warm and rowing the boat. In fact there he is now.." she pointed forward as the reached the tip of the Island.

When Acia came into view with the two young Aerandir, Osero had been standing near the water's edge, his sharp eyes scanning the island for any sign of them. Spotting the trio, he lifted a hand into the air, giving them a short wave.
Behind him in the water bobbed a wooden rowboat. The boat was already loaded with the supplies that they would need for the trip. Osero had figured that they should be enough for the four of them. If not, he'd find something as it was needed. It was part of the reason he was there, afterall.
As the three Aerandir approached, he took a few paces forward to meet them, folding his broad wings back. He smiled warmly, nodding down to them.
"Hi there. The boat's ready to go whenever you are." He turned, indicating the boat a short distance away. Turning back to glance down at Nehanda and Pueblo, he wondered to himself what this trip would hold for them. It would almost certainly be an unforgettable experience for them, but in what manner, he could not say. After a moment, a faint smile returned to his face.
"Ready?"

Nehanda nodded and flared her own wings as she skipped forward. "Hi, Osero. It's good to see you!" Of the three adult Aerandir, the muscular male was the one she knew least well. She was looking forward to talking with him a little on their trip.
The swan-child sidled up to the boat and looked down at it. "Where should we sit?" She looked back toward Pueblo and smiled reassuringly. "Boats are lots of fun! I love the way it feels when it's rolling over the water." She lifted her hand to simulate the movement of the waves.
Taking out the sandwiches that Foenix had so lovingly packed, she looked at them. "Foenix is sort'a funny about food. She really likes to feed people, and she really likes to cook, but she doesn't let me in the kitchen. I burn things, so I'm not much good at helping. but I can leave these here. We just won't tell her!"

Pueblo still held onto Acia's hand but almost let go at the sight of Osero. Smiling to herself, she was glad she would be surrounded by friends during this adventure. With her best friend Nehanda, Osero whom she's known since a mere griff, and friendly warm Acia, her nervousness seemed to vanish.
Walking up to the boat with Nehanda, she peered down as the contraption seemed to move with every tossle of water. Raising her brows, she looked between all three. She trusted them, so she was more than happy to climb inside. "Ready!" she beamed.
But before Nehanda could decided what to do with the sandwhiches, she touched her wrists and offered an idea. "Maybe we can break the bread up and feed the fishes? That way we wouldn't be wasting any," she smiled.

Nehanda grinned at Pueblo. "That's a great idea!" Tugging her friend with her, she walked a few steps into the water and reached into the sandwich bag. She looked over her shoulder at the two adults. "I dun think it'll take too long; is that okay?" She offered a sandwich half. "You can help, if you like."

"You go ahead" she said to the eager children. She was standing in a few feet of warm, tropical water beside the small boat. She removed her staff and lay it along the length of the boat and tucked a small parcel away amongst those Osero had already loaded.
"How have you been, Osero?" she asked "It's been a while." her smile was warm for the older Aerandir. She respected him greatly and found his presence comforting. This whole trip, with the promise of no humans around, had put her in a more relaxed mood. For once in a long time she could just let go and relax. She should take tips like this more often!
"Be careful." she added, watching as the children leant over the boat to feed. Once they had done she liften each child into the boat carefully before carefully trying to crawl into the boat. She had tried to land in a boat from flying once and never would again - the downdraught from her wings had nearly turned the small craft upside down!
"Ready to go?" she grinned.

Osero returned Acia's smile. "It really has. I've been well - just been making sure that there's enough fish and game to go around. There's so many on the island now. But I really should drop in to see you more often. How about yourself?"
Once Acia and the children were safely in the boat, Osero waded out into the warm water himself. This was where he had to be careful; the wolfish hunter was much larger than the other three, and if he didn't watch himself, he could end up pulling the boat over. He also didn't want to rock the boat too much in case he unsettled the young ones.
"You might want to hang onto something for a minute," he warned, leaning over to place his fish spear onto the bottom of the boat.
Even with the hunter taking his time and trying his best to be careful, the boat still lurched towards one side as he pulled himself into into it. However, it didn't lurch far enough to unsettle the supplies or let in water (fortunately), and it rapidly righted itself again once the large Aerandir had seated himself next to the wooden oars.
Stretching his arms out in front of him with his hands linked, flexing his muscles, Osero then took up the oars. Strong as he was, rowing a boat for any length of time was fairly tiring.
Glancing at Acia, he nodded his head, before turning his gaze to Pueblo and Nehanda with a smile.
