I've always wondered this... why do some people go on major quests to collect a bunch of the exact same item? Its usually something people don't really want, like the Jolly Slippers around last Xmas, or dried skirts or hockey masks, etc. What is the real point? What can you do with all that stuff anyway other than have it just sit and clog up your inventory? I could understand maybe if they wanted to eventually give it all away or something. But some people seem to do it just to do it. Even quests to get every single gaian item make more sense.

the people who do that are very smart not only they get more money off of the item there are doubleing or tripleing (whatnot), if it is like a chrismas item or something like that people would go crazy over it and spend whatever it takes to get that item for that holiday. I know a hole bunch of people that have millions for doing just that, most people think it is smart but just dont do it, or just think it is stupid. But you need to think outside the box and think more about it! ^_^

I don't know anyone who's made a huge profit [more than 900 gold] from buying/reselling jolly slippers, but I guess it's possible.

*coughs loudly* sweatdrop Why hoard items like hockey masks, skirts and.... flower crowns [*soughs again*]? These item rarely jump up in price [wellll...], and are not exactly financial obsession. So why? Two reasons that I know of 1. Because they can. They are cheap and easy to acquire, and can be sold almost as easily. It's sort of like an asset. You aren't as likely to spend it I suppose 2. Call it... an obsession. [this would be me]. For me, when I was young...er, I saw someone wearing a flower crown [he was fairly well known at the time in the general discussion back in October. I thought "That is such a cool item, but I bet it's like 30k or something, and I'm such a newb. [only a month old at the time]. so I lurked in the Exchange and found out they could be acquired in a price range of 425-600 [back when they were wort ha tiny bit more]. So I got one, and also found out that they were greatly under appreciated [i.e. "wtf I give this away it's stupid please take it!" threads], and there were two others who also collected flower crowns, to give them a home. I thought about this and caved. I remember on night [I think around oct 18th] I stayed up until about 2am doing mad crown auctions and bidding wars with a few others [I was a bit crazy then okay?]. A few people in the GEN also donated crowns to me that they came across whee whee [one labelled as flower crown queen.. woohoo xd ]. This craze slowed down a bit in december when I went into some questing and such, and ever proud of my collection though. ... Story time's over xd I've written that story about 3 time's in the old GEN thread too xd xd my sad life xd

Malaise I don't know anyone who's made a huge profit [more than 900 gold] from buying/reselling jolly slippers, but I guess it's possible. I don't know. I made quite a bit off the paper bags back when they were worth less than than the slippers are now. whee I think you have to split these hoarders into two categories: those who hoard limiteds and those who hoard uncommons. For limiteds, it's a way to invest if you're a newbie who can't afford a lot of letters. All limiteds go up eventually. There'll never be any more of them, so it's possible (although unlikely) that you could buy enough to control the market. Most people hate them, so it's easy to buy up a bunch without creating a panic and raising the price. (I'm currently hoarding party sets. whee ) As for the uncommons, I think some people are betting on another price readjustment sometime in the future. Imagine, anyone who had hoarded coconut bras would have hit the jackpot! eek And, like Chaows said, love of the item, and a desire to have a huge inventory. whee

I voted that hoarding stuff was silly... but hey, silly doesn't mean that it's BAD. wink
Coming from someone that kinda accidentally ended up hoarding a very large amount of Jolly Slippers, I keep them around because I really can't get rid of them. And there's a perverse sort of pleasure to be taken from an inventory full of dozens upon dozens of the same item. And hey, admittedly, I LOVE the Jolly Slippers. I adore 'em. When Christmas comes around, I'll probably just hand the slippers out to anyone that wants a pair. (I'd be a bad person to make a profit on 'em, since most were given to me free of charge shortly after LAST Christmas.... sweatdrop )

It's only smart if you collect a bulk of the same item from donation letters for they are the most valuable items on Gaia. I used to do that but I wasted quite a few dollars IRL so I decided to just play the game normally now and post and put effort into getting my items with Gaia Gold only.
