That's right this is talk about marching band. From your half time show, practices, music, parades, etc. whee
Though we some we already know I guess I shall ask what is everyone's show theme this year? (I'm ready for all those Pirate themes) The theme for my band this year is Latin which inclues the Mask of Zorror.

We had a trumpet trio at the begninning of our show last year for Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy and then at the end when we played this song that was a collection of all songs put together- expect it was a trumpet duet which had one the guard members dancing sexily around them. It was really bad because I was standing RIGHT behind them.

It's just that this year, I'm finally high enough in the section to be considered for the duet. Up until now, I've always hovered arond fourth chair...

Our show title is . . . The Periodic Table. Yup, in my school, band nerds are other kinds of nerds, too! I so wish it was called Elements, which sounds infinately cooler, but . . . eh. Anyway, the three songs, which are all original compositions by Scott Hickey: Chemical Abstracts Metals and Halogens (this one ticks me off to, because he was going for a metal/gas contrast in the music but didn't want to put "gas" in the title . . . makes sense, but not all halogens are gases!) Particle Accelerator

If I wanted to I could probally find some midis of we we're playing. And I feel like ranting today so here we go-- Ok I think I've already enlightened how our trumpet section is divided into two on the field. We have side A trumpets and side B. Ok the main section leader is over on side B and the assitant section leader on the other side, YET the assitant doesn't have band class due to AP class scheduling so I'm the only . . . upper classman over there. I stand on the far side- I'm trumpet three and all to the left of me is freshman and sohpmores (well there is a freshman and a sophmore to the right of me but they're smart and they don't count). BUT OMG they cannot do anything right. They can't form arcs or stay in straigh line when we march. And they KNOW they're wrong. in fact the only sophmore in the group of freshmen said "Oh don't worry they'll fix it later."
I just wanted to scream and say "IF there's something wrong why not bring it to someone's attention?!" But I really couldn't since I'm not really a section leader. And also since it was like my third time marching (from missing band camp and a missed a day of class to wrestle the DMV goblins to get a new liscens) I didn't know the sets- at all. Like seriously I don't know them. And I've never ran the second half of the opener and such. So I was looking at my charts constantly and so I decided it was to much to balance my horn and the charts so I went to go put it down and there were ants everywhere so I gave it to the flute section leader (who was just chillin' over on the side line and she doesn't really do anything that class anyways since it's a brass class). Later our new assitant director yelled at her saying how I should hold my horn like everyone else and brough my horn to me. The flute did try and defend me (because no one likes the new director) but at that time I had the few sets that we were running over and over in my head by that time.
Sadly I just wished we run them set by set. I mean it's really hard just having to jump in there- play music, have no clue where you are going nor know the counts. crying And the frickin' side A trumpets need lots of work because they keep messing everything up wrong it's like a chain reaction from there to the following sets. And I talked to the real section leader after class and told him that they needed work and to do this and that and he almost brushed me off. And then today also during class a Junior was helping this new freshman and I went over there to (hand my trumpet to the flute section leader and to) help them. 3nodding sweatdrop And wasn't till then that the main director noticed something was wrong. I mean they had been sitting over there for 15 minutes and the real section leader wasn't doing anything! stressed I feel like screaming! And out of the entire trumpets/trombones/baritone line thing we form I was the only one who was noticing we kept setting it up wrong. Where are all the other section leaders?! I feel like I"m the only one doing something!

Wow... much luck in getting shtuff straightened out, Masq...
I still can't believe how bad some of the sections at my HS are... the colorguard especially *rolls eyes*
I went back one year to watch them at band camp, and happened to point something out to the instructor... well, she loved me when I marched, and now she acts like I'm just burdening her... so I told the director twisted and then she glared at me for pointing out her inadequacy! *lol* blaugh
