[basic stats]
//i've been preoccupied with these sick sixth senses that sense dna on barbed wire fences//
Name: Ako
Gender: Male
Species: Vampire
Abilities: Inhuman speed and strength, night vision, and the ability to heal quickly from nearly all wounds. Later, the power to transform into a cloud of bats. Must drink blood to survive, though.
Past Life:
It seemed like was always rainy. Or cloudy. Or cloudy that was threatening to be rainy. Right now it was the first one.
Fat, heavy raindrops soaked the sky and splattered onto Ako's fact as he looked up at the clouds. He was 17, homeless, orphaned, and soaking wet. It was the last one that annoyed him the most, really. He'd gotten used to the rest. He had his brother, Luke, who was two years older and wiser and all the family Ako needed.
He paced back and forth along a back alley, scuffing his worn-out tennis shoes across the rain-slick pavement, waiting for Luke. His brother was late, and Ako was getting worried. He couldn't be lost- they knew the back streets better then anyone else in the city. And he didn't have a car, so there was no way he could blame the problem on traffic, though he would damn well try if he got the chance.
There he was. Shuffling quickly across the street towards Ako's hideout, hunched over, the hood of his windbreaker pulled over his face. Ako grinned and ran towards him, then stopped short. Something was different. Wrong.
Luke pushed his hood back, and Ako blinked. Luke's eyes were blue- they were supposed to be blue- but they were briliant red now, burning with a savage flame that made Ako wince and look away.
"Hey," Luke breathed, and Ako caught a glimpse of glistening fangs flashing in his mouth. "I've got- it's- listen, we're never going to be hungry again."
-----
Ako crouched behind a trash can, the blood from his first meal still hot and wet on his lips. It had suprised him just how good it tasted, just how much of a dizzy rush he could get off the simple act of biting and drinking. But what surprised him more was how much he'd wanted the kill, almost more then the blood. If Luke hadn't pulled him off, he would have kept drinking until-
Until what?
Suddenly he wanted to know. More then anything else in the world.
-----
Another night. Another alley. And this time he'd gone ahead and done it, drank until there was nothing more left to take and he felt his victim's muscles spasm in the final dance of death, and it had been glorious. There had been a struggle, screams that stroked his ears and made him grin and feel like laughing, and now-
He'd killed someone.
And it didn't matter. It didn't ******** matter. There was no god to punish him, and no hell to threaten him with, and the world wouldn't miss the man that was now slowly rotting on the asphalt.
Luke knew what he'd done, and wouldn't meet his eyes.
----
"You can't keep doing this."
"Why the hell do you care?"
Six months. They hadn't seen each other for six months, and now Luke was back and trying to tell him what to do. They'd changed, both of them. Luke was thin and pale, dark hollows carved under his eyes. Ako knew he looked the same, but he didn't care. For once in his worthless life he could fend for himself. He had a silver knife strapped to his hip and a red spiked tattoo coating his left arm and hand, like a brand. One spike for everyone he'd killed, maybe. He hadn't bothered to count.
"You... you just can't. It's wrong."
"Why? What does it matter? What does anything matter? The world doesn't give a ******** about me or you or anyone."
"But you give a ******** about the world, don't you?"
"No, I really don't. Not at all."
----
Ako struggled against the steel shackles that kept him strapped to the floor, spread-eagled like some crucified messiah, except that nobody would bother to write a book about him. His leg twitched as the broken bones healed for the sixth or seventh time. That was the problem with healing powers- if you were normal, they could only break your bones once.
The pain had been almost as sweet as blood at first, but now it was intense, dizzying, and he was struggling to keep his eyes open and keep his mind from fading out.
Voices drifted over him.
"He's a vampire. How the hell do you kill a vampire?"
"You stake him in the heart, don't you?"
Another stab of searing pain, and a hot crunch as two of his ribs cracked.
"You b*****d. That's the wrong side. His heart's on the other side."
It would have been funny if it hadn't hurt like s**t. And there were the fingers again, reaching out to grab and smash at his hands and legs and snap the bones again. There were dozens of people here, maybe more, thirsting for revenge. They'd caught him, and they'd apparently been paying attention to the torture methods he had perfected over the course of a year.
More ribs cracked, and this time whoever had hammered the stake had taken an anatomy lesson. Ako didn't even bother with last words, or last thoughts. He just let the world fade to black.
There wasn't going to be anything to wake up to.

[personality]
//i don't have to answer any of these questions/don't have no god to teach me no lessons//
Baby- As a baby, Ako is strangely quiet and observant of everything. He never seems to cry, though he winces at bright lights and shakes fiercely when he is scared of something. He's incredibly attached to Taylor (his guardian) and can't stand to have her leave him alone.
Toddler- He's shy, almost painfully so, and tries to avoid other people. Taylor is the only person he will really socialize with. He tends to huddle in dark corners with a book (he's very smart and learning to read very quickly) instead of talking. For some reason he doesn't like the tattoo on his left arm and tries to cover it up with his clothes. He hasn't figured out what his fangs are for yet, and to his annoyance, keeps cutting his lip on them. At this point he will develop an extreme sensitivity to touch that will persist for most of his life and make him reluctant to be in close proximity, let alone contact, with others.
Kid- Up until now, Ako has been able to survive on regular food, but now he starts experiencing cravings for blood and has a hard time resisting them. He tries to hide this from other people, but sneaks out at night to take small prey like mice or birds. He feels a bit guilty about this because he still has a strong relationship with Taylor and knows she wouldn't like it if she knew he was killing things. As time goes on he starts to enjoy the killings more, getting pleasure from the other beings' death, and doesn't know what to think about that. He's still rather shy and antisocial, but he's also learning to play the drums and practices at inopportune moments, to EVERYONE'S annoyance. He's probably made a few friends by this point and will be very devoted to them... he either hates people or loves them. Fiercely.
Teen- He's come out his shell a little bit... at least, enough to lash out at people who annoy him. Sleep deprivation (he's nocturnal, but the rest of the world isn't), increased blood cravings, and eyes that are increasingly sensitive to light are making him edgy, jumpy, and angry. He's even distanced himself from Taylor, finding solace in music alone. He'll try and stay close to his GOTP friends, though, perhaps feeling that they will understand him better. When it comes to romance, he's about as awkward as they come. When and if he develops a crush on someone, he'll be the kind who's to embarrased to look at her, let alone talk to her (or him). Expect a lot of dropping things and walking into walls at inoppurtune moments. As he begins to remember more of his past, he faces many difficulties and temptations. Most of him knows his past actions were wrong, but he still loves the memories of the blood and screams, and often finds himself fantasizing about murdering those closest to him. His animal prey give him enough blood to survive, but he wants more and is torn about how to get it. Both his (reluctant) devotion to Taylor and his memories of his agonizing death keep him from taking human lives. Barely.
...yes, he will gladly torture someone, kill them, and desecrate the corpse, but he can't deal with talking to a crush. He's odd that way.
Youth- Ooh, he's going to have some problems now. Basically, how the hell can you tell someone that you just found out you're a reborn serial killer, and still keep their trust? If Ako tells ANYONE about his past life, that's a sure sign he really likes and trusts them. They should be flattered.
Adult- pending
----
Likes: Darkness and shadows, rain, books, enclosed spaces, music (punk rock and heavy metal), pain (caused to other people), and blood.
Dislikes: Bright lights, loud noises (unless they're caused by him), surprises, being touched, too many people.
Hobbies: Reading, playing the drums, glaring at people menacingly.

[appearance]
//we could lose ourselves and paint these walls in pitchfork red//
Eye/hair color: Black hair with two red streaks on the right side. Dark red eyes.
Distinguishing marks: The aforementioned hair streaks. A spiky red tattoo on his left hand and arm (he got it in his previous life). Sharp fangs.
----
Wand- It almost looks more like a weapon then a wand. It's a long, very thin, very sharp steel blade with black leather wrapped around the handle. A couple of thin strips of leather adorned with garnet beads dangle from the end of the handle, and dried bloodstains mar the tip of the blade.
Wisp- Uh, it's a wisp. A bright red one. Yeah!
Ghost- It's beginning to show hints of a form, arms and legs and the like, and the color has darkened a bit.
Baby- Well, he's not exactly human-looking- not most babies have a pair of fangs (very small, but still pointy) or red-streaked hair. His eyes are either very very dark red or jet black, it's hard to tell. His skin incredibly pale, almost white, and the tattoo on his arm stands out vividly. He's a small child, and quite fragile-looking.
Toddler- He tends to prefer dark-colored clothes and shirts with long sleeves to cover up his tattoo (it makes him a little uncomfortable because it reminds him of his past life, though he doesn't realize what it is he's remembering). He won't let anyone cut his hair and he lets it flop in front of his eyes, covering them.
Kid- He looks unusually mature for his age, probably because of his dark clothes, angular features, and perpetually serious expression. He likes blue jeans and a black sweater that's about three sizes too large for him, and he almost always has his drumsticks sticking out of a back pocket. Still no sign of his eyes under all that hair.
Teen- Ako has had a major growth spurt and now is very tall, lanky, and awkward-looking. He's into the 'black clothes ONLY' phase now... wait, he's been in that his whole life, so this is nothing new. He prefers baggy jeans and hooded sweatshirts, usually with the names of bands on them. He likes to tie red shoelaces around his wrists like bracelets, and he keeps his wand stuck in his belt like the sword that it is. His hair is a bit longer then shoulder-length now and STILL covers his eyes. He's never seen without a pair of headphones and CD player (can't afford an iPod)
Youth- It's about time. Ako finally let some of that hair fall off his face (it's still long, though), and HOMFG, his eyes are BRIGHT RED. Add in the fangs (which are very long by now)... well, he knows he looks scary and uses that to his advantage. He's also into trenchcoats and sunglasses (perched low on his nose) now and kind of looks like he stepped out of a Matrix movie. Nobody's been able to pry the headphones off his ears yet.
For someone who can't see himself in a mirror, he has suprisingly good fashion sense.
Physically, he's still kind of stringy-looking and doesn't look nearly as strong as he really is. He also has gained the ability to change to bat form... this is actually a cloud of bats, rather then a single bat (all are controlled by a single intelligence, though). Said bats are black with red eyes, and some have red streaks on their left wings.
Adult- Physically, he won't have grown very much because he's growing into the whole vampiric-immortality thing. Style-wise, he'll go for a more functional sort of look... he'll probably keep the trenchcoat, but he'll modify it to have a lot of pockets and things for hiding weapons. Just in case.

[family]
//just you and i and your starless eyes remain//
Guardian: Taylor: 18, female, college student, geek. She's a biology student who keeps trying to make sense out of the world, but then finds herself thrown into situations that don't make much sense at all. That doesn't keep her from taking notes, categorizing things, and irritating other people by doing so. Finding the wand was a total accident. Taylor was bored, window-shopping, had a moment of "WOAH, that's cool-looking," and then found herself with this wand thing on her hands. Eep.
'Sibling': Diacyn, like Ako, has close connections with death. To be specific, he's the Guardian of death by hypothermia (long story). He's also aggressive, grumpy, and a ninja wanabee... and he eats kittens. He had lived with Taylor for some time before she found Ako, so he's gotten her a little bit accustomed to, uh, weirdness. A bald-headed kid with owl wings appearing from nowhere will do that to someone.

[about vampires]
//i'm running out of angsty lyrics//
...there are about a million different versions of the vampire myth floating around, so I'm just going to clarify my stance on the issue.
Blood- vampires survive by drinking human or animal blood. They are both equally nourishing, but human blood tastes better and is incredibly addicting once a vampire has tasted it. How often the vampire needs to feed depends on how often he uses vampiric powers (transforming into bats, etc.) A difficult fight or something will leave a vampire starving. It is rumored that vampires also "feed" off the death of creatures... killing something is just so much better then leaving it with enough blood to live. Blood-deprived vampires tend to go a little crazy, and the smell of blood can send them into a mad killing frenzy.
Creation- the only way for a human to transform into a vampire is for that human to drink vampire blood. Regular vampire victims are just plain dead- they don't turn into ghouls or anything.
Death- The only way to kill a vampire is by destroying the head or the heart. Stakes work, but so do bazookas if you aim right.
Weaknesses- there are a bunch of things that don't outright kill a vampire, but just annoy it. Myths have exaggerated these into things that do kill vampires, and a lot of humans have perished because they thought a few cloves of garlic was enough protection. +Garlic- the smell annoys vampires because they have a very good sense of smell. Many other spices work just as well, if the odor is strong enough. +Sunlight- vampires have extremely light-sensitive skin and eyes, and they burn easily (sunburn, not bursting into flames). Plus, they're naturally nocturnal, so they just don't like being out in the daytime. +Religious artifacts- this is a little weird. If the vampire was religious in life, the symbol of his or her religion repels them in death (this is probably a psychological thing, with the vampiric lifestyle contradicting religious teachings so much that the vampire can't stand to look at reminders of said religion). Christian vampires will take issue with the cross, Jewish vampires avoid Stars of David, etc. Ako was an atheist, so he's home free on this one. +Running water- Just not true. Really. It doesn't even make sense, if you think about it. +Entering a home- Do you honestly think vampires can't enter without being invited? The bastards break-and-enter all the time.
Powers- these vary from vampire to vampire, but a few things remain the same: +Speed and strength +Night vision +Speed-healing Vampires also tend to have a unique power, which usually involves a transformation (into mist, bats, a wolf, etc.) Ako has the power to transform into a cloud of bats.
