just on monday this week, mom and i got into a horrible argument as usual, i try to keep my temper down to avoid screaming, but this time it really pissed me off so i started yelling and screaming (what? i mean i have to deal with the same thing everyday stressed how can i not gonk sad )

its been 5 days now, my throat doesn't feel scratchy anymore but i can't sing high notes stressed and it really screws up my performance in chorus, it really sucks since im in 1st baratone (sp?) soprano, im having trouble reaching high parts after the incident, its been a week and now im scared my voice could permantly be like this and i can never be in soprano, oh no alto! gonk
can my voice be like this permantly? would it heal? my mom and sis said i should drink lime/lemon. would it work? any other suggestions? gonk help! xp

I hear the lemon/lime stuff can ultimately damage your voice, but that might just be a myth. ._.

My advice: just rest it. Stick to lower notes and don't push yourself.

There nothing wrong with being an Alto stare That said, pretty much rest your voice, dont sing on it at all until its healed. Drink things like Throat Coat, which will make your throat all gunky, but you wont be singing on it anyway and that gunk is protecting your throat from anymore damage.

Lemon is actually bad for you voice in the long run.

Does anyone have a list of things to do for if you have a frog throat or things you shouldnt eat or drink before you sing?

That may be true, but it's good if you're pinched for time.

Yeah, but Id prefer to have a voice when Im older... heh....

yeah I suggest having hot lemonade with honey in it for sweetener.....
your voice jsut got strained and it's trying to heal, which is tightening it up... it's a muscle like all the other muscles in your body, when you strain, pull, rip, or sprain something your body gives it H2O which makes it swell, and then it heals it back to the size it should be (wihtout the stretchy-ness) so it's jsut doing it's job... if you're hardcore enough, try not talking for a day before the performance if your throats out of whack, then warm up and sing....

Water with lemon and honey. I hear that the honey is what actually soothes and coats the throat, while the lemon is better for medicinal purposes because it acts as a mild astringent (among other purported things.)

Also, if you have to use cough drops for some reason (raw throat, maybe?), go with Ricola, and NOT Halls. Halls numbs your throat, so you can be doing more damage and not feel it happening.

Best way to avoid redamaging your voice is to try to avoid more shouting matches. (I know, it's WAAAAAAAAAAAY easier said than done, so I send you my well wishes for that.)
BTW: Have you ever noticed that when people are dangerously angry, their voices drop to this low, quiet, tone? It's often more effective that shouting and easier on your throat.

Good luck, lovely.

Whenever you overexhert your vocal chords.. (usually by coughing too much.. but I suppose shouting counts) it's good to take a shot of oil right before a concert or rehearsal. It's just as effective as the medicated stuff and it's probably a little bit better for you.

As far as getting your high register back, I wouldn't attempt to go past what is comfortable for a little while. When you start excercizing those upper notes, go back to the basics: lifting your soft pallate, coming "down" on the note instead of "hitting" it, opening your mouth to Ah when above the staff... ect ect. Oh, and breathing. It's amazing what these little technicalities can do ^^

Hope i've helped

yeah, lime and lemon like kills all the tissue micuse in your throat leaving you more able to be hurt. stay away from it. drink lots of warm tea and water and breath in steam. also, dont keep singing, take a vocal rest. yes, vocal rest, what all singers hate to hear but what is essential to a healthy voice. also, drink water and lots of it. you should never feel dry and you should constantly be drinking, NO MATTER WHAT. even if you feel better, keep drinking, its the best you can do for your voice. so vocal rest, and lots of water and warm liquids should help you out. and no more yelling. hahah yup, take it from a vocal major in college lol i get beat with this stuff when i hurt my voice.
