Click here for a moment to moment counter of what the USA current owes other countries, primarily Japan and China. Refresh it a few times to get the full power of the damage that has happend during the Bush administration. As it goes up, that is just the interest we owe.

When Bush took office our country had EXTRA money.
And now he is proposing we cut taxes (again) while
putting more money into education (etc etc) which btw
he cut a lot of funding from for this year while at the
same time claiming it needs more 'attention'. Oh, and by the
way... they haven't been including WAR COSTS when they
write up the national budget each year. However they are finding
plenty of cash (that we do not have) to poar into porkbarreling.

Individually every man woman and child in the USA owes about 30k.

Thats why I hate it when a President feels that because it's thier last year ever to be in office, they can do what ever they want to do.
I wish that our house and senate would controll things a little better.
but they are all on the same pay roll.
Perhaps if they were told it would come out of their own paycheks, then things would change.

Aww, after reading Gwyn's post I was practically dancing thinking everyone was nearly rid of the litterally mentally deficient excuse for a president called Bush. If I were an American I would have moved when he was voted into office.

Not that our own government doesn't have it's downfalls, but I highly doubt any of them would ignore intelligence telling them there were suspicions of a possible terrorist attack using airplanes six months before the 9/11 disaster, and there's NO WAY they'd just sit there with their thumbs up their asses after being informed the horrific event itself was occuring.

Hopefully everyone who feels strongly about the way things are going will vote. I hate when I meet people who have opinions about the way things are going, but didn't vote. But with the way the voting system works it's hard to motivate people to vote.

Not to mention that the Democrats have basically shot themselves in the foot repeatedly over the past several years - by now, they're working their way up to the kneecaps. See, everyone hates Bush, but the other side has screwed up so royally that a neoconservative could still win in '08. America is that screwed.

As far as the government go's the President is really nothing more than a figure head. It is the house and senate who rules. What makes it so bad is that he has the power of Veto, and the power to declare war.
Take those two things away and he has nothing.
and sadly it is the electoral college who actualy votes in our president, not the people. We are not a democracy, we are a republic.
It's important to vote in our state elections, and send good men who know what they are doing to capital hill.

Everything else in that post was accurate, but I did want to touch on this point. The presidency itself - the office - is indeed a position better suited for public appearances than decision-making. However, our current president is in a unique position.

The Bush family has been tightly involved in the Project for the New American Century, the organization which detailed a path for America to remain the only functioning superpower throughout the 21st century. This project's stated goals - pre-9/11 - involved invading Afghanistan, Iraq, Syria, Iran, and other Middle Eastern nations. In that order, I believe.

Also, the Heritage Foundation, a clearinghouse for neocon organizations, was created to provide a united front for disparate groups (like the Southern Baptist Convention and the NRA). Individual organizations concede points where there's disagreement, allowing the entire right wing to act as a monolithic power bloc.

Finally, the Bushes have something on just about everyone in Washington, DC, through variegated sources - Skull and Bones, the CIA, and multitudinous others. Come on. Look at Colin Powell twelve years ago, and look at him in 2002, and tell me he wasn't subject to blackmail somewhere along the way.

Wow. confused No offense to any Americans, but I'm really glad I don't live there. sweatdrop I really don't mean to offend anyone by saying that.

Canada's Government leaves something to be desired as well, and so do the people in power in many, many other countries. It just seems to be a common thing to abuse power in at least some way, everywhere.

Yeah, but Canada's a cakewalk compared to the US. If only they hadn't tightened up the requirements for citizenship. crying I don't have any necessary skills that would make me a desirable citizen...
