After her encounter with a young lioness, Chuakari had decided she needs practice being graceful so she doesn't trip and make herself look silly, or make more mistakes about who's laughing at what/who. She's gotten mostly out of the Pridelands, though the borders are still near.

"One.." she slinks along the ground in the grass, heading in the direction of a tree, standing out despite her low position thanks to her bright colors, "T-two.."

"T-t-" the cheetah stops walking and lifts her head up out of the grass, "What's after two?" She makes a face as she tries to think of which number it is that comes after two.

"Treeee?" she murmurs thoughtfully, looking at the nearby tree- it almost sounds right. What's wrong with it, though? Sitting there, staring at the tree, she doesn't pay much attention to her surroundings- excepting that tree..

"I think the word you're searching for is three, darling."

Uri had been laying in the dappled shade on the other side of the tree. It was not as large or as grand as the meeting tree, but he'd wanted to get away from the others, for a while...and the shade was cool. It was the only place, he blended in, when it was not night time.

He slunk around the trunk and looked down at the little cub, head tilted. How cute. How odd. How fabulous. The adolescent had to smile. Such a bright little thing, in more than one way....gods, she was tiny. Had he ever been so tiny? Surely not.

"Hello there, little bit."

"Three!" she exclaims after being prompted, looking proud for a split second before realizing that someone had spoken to her. She jumps, turning completely aound in an attempt to see where the voice had come from. Her purple eyes widen when he comes out from behind the tree like a living shadow, amazed enough by his appearance and friendly tone to not think about having needed the help.

"Wow, hi!" she greets him excitedly, advancing a couple of steps, "You're good at hiding! Who're you?"

"My aren't you a friendly one?" Light coloured eyes blinked at such openness. Her scent seemed like that of a rogue cheetah cub and yet she wasn't afraid or suspicious like most are. It was sort of endearing and just a little bit worrying...not that the beautiful Uri cared what happened to her, of course. He was only curious. Because he only cared about number one. Right.

"I'm called Uri. And what's your name?" A friendly answer. No need to be rude after all.

She tilts her head at the friendly comment, and then smiles- friendly is the best way to be! That's how you make friends, it makes perfect sense- why else would 'friend' be in the word? Her expression is much like he's given her the greatest compliment.

"My name's Chuakari," she replies brightly, "You're covered in lots of pretty spots." She's never seen so many spots on one thing, and isn't aware that most of her own species have spots. She leans in a little bit to try to get a better look at the fuzzy white spots on his fur.

She couldn't have said a better thing to get on the egotistical cheetah's good side. When he'd been her size, most people said they were 'odd' or 'weird'. So to have them called 'pretty' made the male beam. What a charming child!

"Why thank you Chuakari...you're quite dazzling youself. " He studied her, leaning down to look at the only 'spot' she had. A white heart, how fitting. Uri's tail curled as he thought, swiftly, about how noticable she was. What if vultures got her? Not that it was any of his buissiness but -

"Is your mother, about, beautiful? It's not safe out here alone."

"One, two, three, four, s-" she pauses in her mumbling as she tries to count the spots on the grey cheetah. Six doesn't come next, does it? Oh well, lots will have to do. He has more than four spots, and that's enough to know.

"Oooh?" she beams, looking up at Uri as he inspects the white heart on her forehead, deciding she does like him a lot.

"Thank you," she mimics his manners, sitting down and curling her tail around her feet. Her mother? She takes a second to look to her left, and then to her right- Umm!

"Nope," she says, looking back at Uri, her expression curious rather than upset or concerned, "Is your mother? Why isn't it safe?"

"Five, then, six, Kari."

Never, in all his days, had he met a cub the like of this one. Usually it was cry, growl, I miss my mummy, I can look after myself - then a week later the bedraggled little corpse is being picked at by jackels. Harsh, but that's life.

Instead this little pink princess was smart and curious and recognised how beautiful they both were. Hmm. Sod being selfish, something would have to be done, he decided. This cub was worthy of his time. Besides, Laoi would never let him hear the end of it if she heard he let a vulnerable youngster go it alone.

"My mother is far, far away; lucky us, she was a mean thing; but I'm grown so it doesn't matter so much...you, my dear are still small. And the laughing dogs or pridecats or the buzzards might try to kill and eat you. I'd hate for something bad to happen to you, though really, your mother should be with you still...." He trailed off, waving a paw airly, but his eyes glimmered with concern.

"Five, six," she repeats, nodding- it makes sense. Aha, she grins inwardly- if he's being helpful instead of making fun of her then he has to like her! Unfortunately, how much she is liked takes priority over her own safety, so she is a little more concerned about that. She tilts her head when her attention is drawn back by Uri's description of his mother, to which she makes a face.

"It's good you're grown then," she nods, looking up at him and really thinking about just how much bigger than her he is. She listens to his explanation of the predators out there, trying to think of a good solution.

"How long does it take to be big like you?" she asks, "You don't have to worry about them, right?"
PostPosted: Mon Apr 03, 2006 4:28 pm

"I do, sometimes, when I cannot run or if they are in groups. But they're much more likely to leave someone my size alone, sweetling." The heat was starting to warm his fur and make him sleepy. So Uri stretched a lay down on his side, curling his body just slightly towards her. Odd. He usually rested Sphinx style. Uri corrected the posture quickly, moving a little way back into the shade, before 'anyone' noticed how ...cosy that could have been.

"It'll take you a long while to grown up. Perhaps you should stay with me and my group of cheetahs? We could look out for you and I could help you with your numbers some more, dearest." He invited her casually, offering his best smile.

((*giggles at the idea of anyone cuddling up to Uri. Grumpy thing'd complain they were messing up his fur*

"Really?" she asks, making a thoughtful face and concluding, "You're lucky, then." So bigger is better! Too bad she has to start out so small, and wait so long to get big. When Uri lies down and stretches out the cub twitches, almost as if she's going to pounce on him, but she stays where she is when he assumes a less inviting posture.

"Wow, really?! Are there lots of .. cheetahs in the group?" her tails sways behind her excitedly, "I'd like that! You're so smart, I bet you can count to. um. . really high!" She nods, alright admitting she can't count as long as she knows it's something nice to say about him.

(( biggrin Suuuure~ Sorry for disappearing X3; *goes to work on HW*

"Yes, I suppose I can count really high. And I'm sure we can have you counting just as high in no time sweetheart." Uri made no move to go back home yet, having just got comfortable. Besides, he'd like some more time getting to know Chuakari before she met Colche or someone - because then she'd like them more - not that he cared. It was the female's job to look after cubs.

"And yes really. Lots of other females and a few other cubs to play with, you'll love it. If not, I'll look after you myself." ...what the hell did he just say? Female's job to look after cubs. And while stunning he was hardly a girl.

Kari giggles at the prospect of being able to count really high, with Uri helping her it'd be quick and fun- then she can prove that she's smart too! She lays down, curling her feet beneath her but keeping her head high to listen to Uri- with a quick glance at him she instead assumes the same position he's in instead.

"How many are there?" she asks, "You'd do that?"
PostPosted: Wed Apr 05, 2006 1:57 pm

"I don't rightly know. I've only met two, but I hear there are more joining everyday...a female and two other cubs came the other day, so you shan't want for playmates."

With a contented little sigh, he laid his head on his slender forepaws. Again, he offered a smile for the cub. Five more minutes here, then he'd take her to find one of the females. They'd know best what to do for her. Five more minutes.

"So, dearheart, how high can you count so far?"

"Oooh," Kari cooed thoughtfully, imagining uncountable numbers of cheetahs, uncountable as Uri's spots seem, and most of them look like Uri- for she can't imagine Uri not knowing how many, and doesn't know what they all would look like. She smiles, "Do you think they're as fun as you, Uri?"

Her tail sways behind her happily, "I can count to six for sure! I get some mixed up after that." She doesn't mind admitting it since Uri already knows and has helped her.
