So cold and dark... He could feel the hands that grabbed him, pushed him into asphault... The mocking laughter, the familiar taste of his own blood in his mouth... A choked sob came from his lips as he felt a foot make contact with his side, and he instinctively clutched the area that had been assaulted.
"That'll teach ya' to mess with us, Crevan."
The sneer in the others voice sent a shiver down his spine. He knew what was going to happen next. The slight russling of fabric, and then the click of a handgun being prepared for a shot. The ear-splitting crack...
Crevan nearly leapt out of his bed, heart pounding and eyes wide with terror. He'd had that dream again... No, that nightmare...
A slightly muffled whine met his ears, and he glanced down at the pillow next to his. Leil had woken up, and was already crawling into the man's lap, rubbing his head against his owner's hand. With a heavy sigh, Crevan smiled down at the Fennec and groped to his left to find his glasses. He needed to get out of the house for a little while...

It wasn't long after, that Crevan was in the library. Leil was nestled up in his arms, his bright vest displaying his status all the curious eyes that had been directed towards him. The head librarian nodded to the man out of recognition, and he gave her a grateful smile in return.
There were many reasons why Crevan both hated and adored this particular library. Not only did they have an extensice collection of his favorite books, but they were also open through the night; but the building was so large that every sound echoed throughout it. The sound of his own footsteps always sent a chill down his spine, but his usual spot wasn't that far away.
He was slightly flattered to notice that a book had already been set out on 'his' table for him, and he gave a soft smile as he sat down in one of the plush chairs that decorated the reading area. He transferred Leil to his lap, and the Fennec only opened one eye to glance at his master before he went back to his nap.
The book had a rather decorative bookmark sticking slightly out of the top, and Crevan was happy to lift it from it's place on the table and flip to the marked page. The bookmark was set aside for later use as he began to read, emerald eyes scanning the pages contently as he absently began to stroke Leil's silky fur.
