((An in-thread RP that will be continued here. If you'd like to join, ask OOCly first, please. ^_^))

Night, and a few yips along the lines of "Ouch!" came frome the edge of the thorn patch before a black shape emerged. Even to someone who called the patch her home, the thorns could still occasionally scratch. But the growing cubs were sleeping, and Jani'mwiba felt like roaming for once.

It seemed wierd wandering up the cliff and into the savannah without a lion cub following her, but it was almost refreshing. The jackal only paused to stretch a few times before continuing onward toward an unknown destination. It was the night, she was free to roam for a while, and her fur blended in with her surroundings. She was content.

The night was refreshing compared to the hot sun that poured heat onto the earth during the daylight. A young lioness wandered slowly through the grassland enjoying the break from the heat. She wasn't much for walking around during the night because of all the things she couldn't see but she was that worried tonight. Her black and bronze patches helped a little with hiding from others that might be up and about but around those spots was a pelt of vibrant white that could easily be picked out in the darkness. As she walked through the tall grass she looked up and noticed the stars above. She had never really noticed them before, she had always hidden away before darkness fell. With that she stood on her hind legs and flopped over on her back so that she could admire them.

Jani was so busy enjoying her stroll through the night that she didn't notice the stars, or anyone who could be around her. This was the first night she had been alone in...when had she last been alone? She knew it had happened at some point, because she remembered the lonely feeling distinctly. But now, she almost savored being alone. It was funny how the world worked.

As she continued on, she noticed a patch of the grass ahead of her was folded downward. She stood and started sniffing, trying to see if she could smell anything. But she quickly realized she was downwind, and so stood still, waiting to see if the anything would move.

The lioness laid there in awe of all the twinkling light in the night sky. She was more relax than she had been all day laying in this bed of grass, watching the stars. Letting out a sigh, she closed her eyes and prepared to take a short nap. Then she heard something behind her. Her ear swiveled as her attention turned to what sounded like something moving in the grass behind her. Quickly she rolled over on her belly and looked out in to the grass before her. Her bright yellow eyes searching franticly but to no avail. There was nothing visible in the grass but there was defiantly something there, she could smell it. "Someone there?" She whispered in a frightened voice.

Freodwyn
Jani blinked as she heard someone whisper. That voice didn't sound dangerous; it sounded reasonably young and scared. She decided to chance it. "Only a jackal out for a stroll. I mean you no harm whatsoever." She said as she revealed herself, appearing perfectly relaxed. "My name is Jani'mwiba; who might you be, dear?"

Kougress
The lioness's eyes darted followed the direction of the voice to where the Jackel stood. With a deep sigh she spoke, now that she what the hidden creature was. "You had me worried for a bit. I couldn't tell who or even what you were. You must be dark colored because you blend in well with the night. I don't know if you can see me either but I'm Kichea. Just a rouge lion." She relaxed a bit as she spoke. Satisfied with her belif of Jani's honesty and that she was only a Jackel. "What brings you out so late at night? Are you on a hunt?" The lions eyes softened a bit as she relaxed but still brightly watched the shadow of the Jakel as she spoke.

Freodwyn
Jani smiled. "I am sorry I frightened you, Kichea. If it's any consolation, you worried me as well. You can never be too careful at night," she said as she lifted her ears and glanced about, as if pretending to be paranoid. Then, she squinted for a moment and added, "I can see you because my night vision has been improving of late. My fur is almost completely black, so night is the best time for me to travel. Of course, now that I have two growing lionesses to care for, I don't travel as much as I used to travel. But I love my new home," she said, intentionally leaving out where that home was. It was best not to tell strangers the secret location she chose for safety reasons. "Before I nearly ran into you, I was simply wandering about, enjoying the night."

"This traveling is my home." She spoke softly as if afraid to wake up the night, " I don't have one place to call home yet. Although I do enjoy comforts I find out here well enough." Kichea spoke as if the loneliness of the life as a rouge never bothered her when in fact it often did. It was true at that moment though she wouldn't want to be anywhere else, than in the soft grass and under the stars. Rolling back over onto her back she looked up at the sky. "Did you see the sky tonight? I hardly ever noticed it after dusk before. Something about it just draws me to it tonight." The young lioness's eyes glistened as she watched the night sky.

Not wanting to pry too much into Kichea's traveling life, Jani glanced up at the sky to see what exactly the lioness was talking about. What she did see nearly took her breath away. "This is a perfect night for stargazing. Everything is so clear...It is a shame I did not notice it before. One grows almost immune to the beauty in life when they're trudging through the thorns and mud, I suppose."

Ah, now the philosophical questions came. Jani was never very good at answering questions like that, but she decided to try her best. "I don't think anyone knows for certain. But my mum once told me that each star is the love someone left in the world when they left the circle of life. I'd like to think that her love is still shining down on me now that she's gone," Jani sighed and stared at one particular star for a long moment before asking, "What do you think they are, Kichea?"

"I like her idea..." Kichea still whispered as she spoke softly. "If I had to imagine something though. I'd say that was where you would go when you left the circle of life. Where you could watch over all who you left behind." She sighed still perfectly content with the night. "I've never really traveled at night before. Anywhere you would want to go? The watering hole might look pretty cool under the stars." Speaking softly she turned back over ready to stand if Jani wanted to walk around a bit too. As she had said earlier there were many beautiful things that are missed when you are concentrating on your troubles.

"I like your idea as well," Jani said. The thought of her actual mother instead of just her love was...well, it was definitely something to think about. What an intelligent little cub. "The watering hole sounds like a wonderful idea, dear. It has been a while since I had something to drink. Would you like to lead the way?"

Slowly standing she turned and started moving slowly towards the watering hole. " Yeah a drink does sound quiet nice right now. I can show you the way." Her voice carried softly through the night. The ground felt different under her paws. The normal burn that left her soft paws tender was gone. She looked forward and watched the horizon for the tree that was near the water, hoping that she could see it silt housed against the night sky.

Jani followed closely behind the young lioness, watching their surroundings for trouble. While the watering hole was a wonderful place to visit, many other creatures thought so as well, and not all of them would have good intentions toward a jackal and a young lioness. Luckily, she had developed good night vision, so she could see if there were any suspicious shadows coming toward them. "What brought you out here tonight, Kichea?" Jani asked, trying to make polite conversation.

Kichea slowly padded along through the grass still searching the horizon for the tree. "I'm not sure exactly what brought me out here tonight... I was late in getting home and I hadn't been out at night since I was a small cub. It was like the inital fear that lingers at night wasn't there. All I really felt like doing was laying back in the grass and enjoying the night." She giggled softly after she finished relising how easily she could have been in danger.

Looking around her again she finally spotted the tree. They were quite close to it too. She wondered what the cool water would be like at night. Hardly anything familar to her during the day was the same.

((So sorry I never responded. >_< I'll go ahead and wrap this up, if you don't mind. Thanks for the RP!))

Jani smiled. "The night can do that you you. There have been times where I've just forgotten everything about dangers and fear and just stared up at the stars." She paused for a moment in thought. "I suppose, if I had been caught at that time, I would have at least died happy."

The jackal approached the waterhole and took a sip of the cool water before she glanced toward the cub...and the rising sun. "I should go now, dear. My cubs are waiting for me," she smirked at this comment before running back to the thorn patch. Back home.

(( It's ok. Sorry, I didn't notice for so long. XD; ))

Kichea trotted up behind the jackal and quickly lapped up some water. She didn't realize til now how thirsty she had became. Looking up she noticed, Jani looking at something. Turning around, she seen it too. The night was just about over and the sun had begun to rise. Looking back to Jani, the cub smiled. " Maybe we will meet again some day..." She smiled and watched her run back home, before leaving to find her a place to call home and sleep saftly in, for what was left of the night.
