The sun was young, the temperature slightly bearable. For now. As the day grew older, the heir to the Kusini lands knew he would have to find some shade. Having a darker-than-some pelt made it uncomfortable when the days grew hot. For now, however, he had little to worry about.
Or so he thought.
Lazy a** runt!
It was the Voice again, come back after a long vacation to torture the young soul. Groaning, Tamu rolled over onto his side, attempting to ignore his annoying 'company' for now. But the thing persisted, brewing up a slight headache for him and making it hard to concentrate on anything, even rest.
"What the hell do you want?" he growled, closing his eyes tightly and letting his ears fall back as his lips curled back in a silent snarl. The Voice was watching him, always, and now its gaze seemed more intense.
Cause trouble. Overthrow. Kill somebody. ANYTHING. You were not made to sit around and lounge all day!
"Whatever..."

Asi moved through the lands in a slow lumber, enjoying the sights of the Kusini lands as he always did. Something was bothering him at the back of his mind, though he was unsure of what. His tail flicked back and forth in a slow, cautious manner as he went. The king was in one of his rare, pensive moods.
His ears flicked and something told him to turn to the right upahead, he did so with out questioning why. After some time he could see the youngest son of his first litter. He was getting so big, though he was still not fully grown. A proud smile crept over the king's maw as he approached.

Unaware of his father's presence, the young lion continued to bicker with his inner 'voice'.
"I'm not doing anything you suggest. It's all bad and rotten."
....Duh. Do you really think I'm the nice type. Seriously, boy, GET OFF YOUR a** AND DO SOMETHING EVIL. Or I'll make you. And you won't like what I have in mind.
Tamu feared whatever it was the Voice was planning, but he just couldn't give in. He knew that if he gave in once, he would always be seen as a wimp by the Voice and would forever be pestered into doing more and more evil things. And that he didn't want.
"No," he said again, this time more firmly. The Voice did not control him, the Voice did not control him!!

Asi listened to the bickering, confused. He couldn't hear most of Tamu's words, and certainly didn't understand who the words were directed to, but it worried him. Tamu made him proud and worried sick, both at the same time.
"Hoy thurr, Tamu." He finally said, his loud voice carrying. He was closer now, and slowly he got to his sone and gaze him a fatherly nuzzle. He knew his boy was getting way too big for such affections, but Asi couldn't help it!
"Yeh alrigh'?" His head cocked to the side.

The sudden sound of his father's voice startled the runt, and caused him to stumble to his paws and almost tumble over and back onto his side again. He managed to regain his balance, however, and so he stood on his toes for a minute as he stared wide-eyed at his father. After a while, though, he settled down and cleared his throat, sure that Asi had heard his little conversation with the Voice.
And it seemed the thing was pleased. A slight cackle rang in the male's head, causing a great chill to run down his spine that made him shiver.
Upon feeling the nuzzle of his father, he immediately relaxed. No matter how old he got, he would always find comfort in the gentle yet rough touch of his father. Grumbling slightly, Tamu-jitu gave a slight nuzzle in return, not minding the 'lovey-dovey' affections.
"Hm? Yes.. uhm. Fine... I think."
The heir cleared his throat again, looking off to the side slightly. His ears were pressed down upon his skull in an embarassed manner.
"Uhm... you heard that didn't you?" He meant his bickering with the Voice.

Asi nodded but he didn't question it, he wasn't sure how to question it. Something was wrong with his son, and perhaps all of his cubs. It was a little heart breaking. One who heard voices, a manipulator, one with wrath, a blind cub, a deaf cub... and who knew about the last two?
"I do be 'earin' thin's often. Bu' yeh do no 'ave ter talk aboot it if yeh do no wanna." His tail curled about his large body, watching his son. The heir. He needed to discuss about Tamu. Would his son even carry on the royal line? He swallowed, shaking his head. He didn't want to think about those things right now, he just wanted to spend time with Tamu.

Tamu sighed and lowered his head slightly. His mane was growing in a little fuller than before, and it brushed his nose when he lowered his head, causing him to sneeze and run a paw over his face to get rid of the tickling feeling.
"No, no, I think I should tell somebody, and you I trust the most." Tamu shook his head, trying to clear all thoughts from it and also to attempt to rid himself of the Voice for now. It seemed to be gone, but he knew that it was always listening in and watching him. It would never go away. For now, he'd have to deal with it. There wasn't much he could do.
"I hear things inside of my head. Or, really, a voice."
This upset it, and caused a flurry of mixed feelings and thoughts to all surge into his brain at once. The Voice was quite angry with the young brown male. He was not supposed to tell!!
FOOL!
The heir shut his eyes, grunting and growling slightly as the choas in his mind overwhelmed him. In a matter of seconds, however, he fought off all of the invading feelings, making himself quite proud.
"Though I think it does more than talk to me," he winced, sinking down to his belly so that he could look levelly at his father, instead of looking down on him. It was rather strange, looking down at one who was of a higher rank than yourself. Proved interesting, really, but Tamu-jitu didn't like it.
"I've had this 'voice' since I was a cub.." He coughed, feeling horrible for keeping this from his parents for so long.

Well this was a little shock, wasn't it? Even though Asi had gained hints of it before, his was the first time Tamu had come out and said it. Thought he was honored that Tamu trusted him most. "...Yeh 'ear a voice.." He muttered, thinking it over. His nose twitched as he watched his son, over-come with emotions. It subsided afted a minute, for which Asi was thankful.
"Tha' lil'... tha' long ago yeh've 'as this voice?" He frowned slightly, sighing. Troubled keeped on piling on, didn't they? "...An'.. an wha' does this voice .. er... say to yeh?"

Tamu risked a glance at his father. He seemed to be comtemplating the whole thing, and didn't seem at all angered or disappointed that his son had held in this great secret for so long. He was nearly an adult now, and there was a lot of time in between adulthood and cubhood.
Nodding, he sighed like his father. "Yes, that long." For a long while, however, the Voice had remained silent, watchful. That had mostly been in his adolescent years.
"What does it say?" the younger lion gulped, thinking with shivers at all that the Voice had ever said to him. Never were they nice things, nor encouraging. They were always sinister, mean and rough. Never comforting in the least.
"Well..." he began, attempting to find the right words still. Finally, he decided to just let out what he was thinking.
"They are never nice things. They are always mean, very discouraging and hateful. Remember when I got into that scuffle with Denahi as a cub? The Voice made me do that.." He didn't think Asi would quite believe him, but he had to put that out there. Might as well spill out everything while you had the chance, right?
"And it's always telling me to hurt someone or cause some major trouble... it's been hard resisting it..."

Asi shook his head slowly, mane falling into his eyes. "I 'ave ne'er 'eard a' sucha thin', though I do no doubt tha' it be common." His ears pressed back a little as Tamu shared exactly what the voice told him. Mean things? Dangerous thing... A flicker of shame moved through his mind if he wondered about Ari and he making the right choice about heir. Of course they had! So what if Tamu had some alter ego?
"It be speakin' o' these thin's all the time? I think yeh shoul' tell yer mum." His brows rose in a questing manner, wondering if Tamu would want to tell her. He remembered her mentioning something about a healer, Poza he thought they were called. But he knew there wouldn't be any around now, the plague had practically whiped out her pride. What it didn't whipe out had fled these lands.

Tamu listened to his father as he spoke. He thought that perhaps it was common? Never before had he ever heard of any other lion having the same problem as he, and never had anyone acted that way. But then, they could have always been covering it up. He did it all the time when he was around his parents. Now, however, he wouldn't have to do that. Or at least not around his father. He wasn't quite sure about..
"Mother?" he suddenly blurted out. He had never really felt close to the female who had given him life, but he had always loved and adored her. Could he really gather up the courage to tell her of his... problem?
The heir hesitated a moment. The same question ran through his head: had his parents really picked the right heir? Shaking his head, the younger lion tried not to think about that particular thing. They must have had a good reason for picking him, or they must have seen some sort of potential in him.
"Sometimes the Voice doesn't talk," he spoke, attempting to get his mind off of other things. "But when it does, it's normally vile things."
"But," he began, finally getting around to his father's suggestion that he tell Ari. "I don't know if I can tell her. I've.... I've felt, well... close to her." He looked away, ashamed that he should say such a thing about his own mother.
This was obviously difficult for him.
