Born to a god fearing Catholic American mother, and a honorable Japanese father, James was always torn between the two religons that always seemed to be at odds with one another in his household. His father practiced Shinto, but his mother refused to let James join his father for any of the rituals, making it very well known that she expected him to be raised a Catholic boy. So he did what all Catholic boys did, went to Catholic school, went to mass, went to confession, did everything that was nessicary for him to follow his mothers wishes. He did however get a reprieve, as his father was a teacher of Shorin-ryu, and the style was very alluring to him. So when he was not doing his Hail Marys or his Our Fathers, he was practicing in his father's Dojo, hoping to one day take his place beside his father as a master of the art.

As he grew older, he slowly and carefuly began to delve into Shinto with his father, never letting his mother know of his intrest in his father's religon. He tried his hardest to remain a good Chatolic, but more and more he found his faith was quickly slipping away, and he saw Shinto as a more true option for him. Finally, when he turned sixteen he approched his mother and told her that he wanted to convert to Shinto. His mother was heartbroken, but, after a long talk with his father, he was allowed to give up the ways of the Catholic church.

As he finished up highschool and started looking into colleges, his life took a very sudden turn. His parents got into a car accident and were killed. James was crushed, just turning eighteen, he was quickly suprised to find that his father had left him the Dojo, expecting him to run it in his stead. James decided that instead of going to college he would fufill his father's wishes. That lead him to find the magazine that would change his life forever...

How he got to the isle: Cleaning up the Dojo after a class, James found a magazine one of the students left behind. Flipping through it out of sheer boredom, he stumbled upon an offer for an all expenses paid trip to Bermuda. The only thing you had to do was mail in the answer to the question they were asking. The winner would be randomly selected from the correct answers. He chuckled and took the magazine to his office to take a crack at it. The question was actually rather simple, for him. "From what region of Japan did the Kobayashi Shorin-ryu style of Karetedo rise from?" James quickly scirbbled down on the attached answer sheet. "Okinawa." And quickly threw it into and envolope and mailed it. He didn't really have high hopes of winning, as it was a martial arts magazine, and there were plenty of Dojos across the country that would know the answer.

He was to be pleasently surpised...

A few weeks later he recieved a letter telling him that he had in fact won the contest! James was quite overjoyed and quickly set about to planning how to go about taking the vacation he so very much needed. It did not take long for him to find a temparary replacement instructor for while he was away, and he was set. He packed his bags, went to the dock, and hopped on the rather small curise liner heading for Bermuda. Little did he know that it was likely the last time he'd ever see his home again.

Halfway into the trip, as they entered the Bermuda triangle, a horrible storm rolled in upon the vessel. The storm buffeted the ship, and it was blown off course, deeper into the triangle. The captain and crew assured the passangers that everything would be fine, and that all would be rectified shortly. They were very, very wrong.

Two days after the storm blew over, they were set upon by pirates. The crew and passangers were quickly herded onto the lifeboats, and set adrift, left to die or be saved on the open sea as the pirates ravaged the vessel and then skuttled her to the bottom of the sea. James was left in only his Gi, and a boat all to his lonesome.

The lifeboats drifted apart from each other, each carried on their own little currents, soon James and his boat were nearing what apeared to be land. James watched the land come towards the boat, and was suddenly jarred as it what appeared to be a reef. He dove into the water, leaving the boat to sink, scratching up the legs of his Gi as well as his own legs, making the swim to shore all the more painful. When he reached the beach he crawled up slowly, only to pass out soon after...

Why the badger: Becuase that's what I do, I badger XD... No, not really, but it is one of my few running gags with some of my friends, so I felt it would be just fitting for the character, as Badgers are just the cutest of All the Mustelids in my humble opinion.

Why I think he'd fit:

James would definately be one of the characters that could be given the tittle of oddball. He's your classic young japanese-american male XD so he's got some interesting (if slightly perverted) tastes XD So there's that which could be played off of.

Also, he's not overly sociable, but European Badgers are, so he would defintaly start as a distant social catipillar then likely explode into a social butterfly.
