Burning Bright: (9) : This time of year there are candles popping up in just about every shop selling anything. Maybe you stopped by one of these shops yourself, or maybe a friend wanted to get you a thoughtful gift, but somehow you’ve come into possession of a pair of candles. They don’t seem to be anything spectacular upon first glance; they are pretty and well made and have a pleasant fragrance. They would be pretty decor on their own, but once you light them, they really shine. Nonstop. For twenty four hours. No matter what you do, you cannot put the flame out. No wind, no water, no fire extinguisher–nothing–will extinguish the flame. You just have to wait until it burns itself out. Thankfully, it doesn’t seem very flammable so you don’t have to worry about other things catching on fire in the meantime. Wherever you keep the candle will have a pleasant smell for several days after the flame extinguishes.

Emitt slowly looked down at the decorative, stinking candle - at least, stinking to him - candle on his side table and Emitt narrowed his eyes at Phanes like she had just ripped one in his personal space. Oh he loved his sister, but he knew this was the next in a long, drawn out, if loving war between the siblings - Elpis might yet deny it powered, but Phanes was the 'Evil' tewin, causing problems on purpose and getting into trouble. Or putting him in trouble. Phanes was trouble. Not actually wicked or cruel, she just caused problems on purpose. Emitt knew that and loved her anyhow but today?

His nose scrunched into a derisive expression as he stared at the decorative candle covered in glitter, the craft herpes positively powdering off of it onto his black silk tablecloth like fresh drops of rain, in an icy blue. It qaS a heart shapoed, glittery candle that smelled of mint and vanilla. and Emitt's eyes nartrowed.

"No." Emitt informed his sister instantly as she appeared in the doorway. "Get that monstrosity out."

"Hell no." Phanes retorted in the doorway. Her silver poixie cut caught light, glimmering pleasantly as she eyed the room. "Your room funks like a** and desperatiuon."

"My room does NOT stink." Emitt hissed, rising. Phanes moved in, passing him to light the candle. "It's YOUR room that reeks of dirty laundry and isolation."

"I mnake friends." Phanes counter4d. She ignited a Zippo lighter and Emitt lunged to stop her, freezing as the candle lit instantly. A massive burst of Vanilla-Mint burst into the room and Emitt tried putting it out to no aqvail. Immediately, Phanes laughed at her twin and tried blowing the candle out herself. When it didn't go out, both twins stared at it. Slowly, Emitt tried to suffocate iut. Then Phanes. When Emitt burned himself trying to pinch it out, both twins stepped back, trading a wary look before Emitt hissed.

"Oh splendid job, Phanes, well done, you lit an undyuing candle in my room, what if I knock it over?" Emitt hissed. He toppled it as example and righted it, blinking when nothing caught. It was - fine.

"Huh." Phanes drawled. "Weird. Like those newts. Weeeiiird." She froiwned. Emitt stiffened.

"Quite weird." Emitt agreed disdainfully. They stared at it in silence, eyes locked on the burning candle. It was certainly pretty, but Emitt didn't appreciate it, and Phanes was suspicious.

"We COULD put it in Fsather's office." Phanes proposed. Emitt nodded.

"Splendid idea. I agree. We can make it Father's problem." Emitt agreed, before the pair warily collected the candle and spirited to their sire's office. Thius was far too weird for them.

They'd almost forgotten the candle at breakfast the following morning. Emitt was halkf-asleep in his pancakes, hand clasping his coffee mug in a desperate grasp for spoons and Phanes was staring into space, eating so slowly it was redicuklous when their father came in holding a burning candle.

?"Which... One of you pout this in my officfe yestyerday?" He asked. Right as Emitt and Phanes pointed to one another, the candle finally went out. Emitt raised his head from death at the table of exhaustion. Phanes blinked, freezing mid-chew, as theur father blinked, eying the candle.

"Oh. It's out now,. How..." He frowned. Phanes cut in.

"And let us NEVER SPEAK OF IT AGAIN." Phanes annouynced. Emitt nodded, scowling.

"Or light it." Emitt agreed.

Their father eyed both twins suspiciously, but merely left the room to put it somewhere safe, once more reminding himself...

His twin chiuldren might be little monsters.
