(( I will be posting the entirety of this rp ))

Khaz arose early that morning. He couldn’t say why. A lot of things had been on his mind over the last few months, but none of those felt urgent this morning. At least, none urgent enough to rouse him from his teenage sleep cycle. A part of him was still broken up about the break-up with Mason, but, much as it had surely hurt both of them, and Halia had rightly chastised him for making it worse by breaking up over text, it was probably better for Mason to be with someone who wasn’t still living deep in the closet. He was making creditable progress toward getting a driver’s license, and, much as he didn’t enjoy working on cars, he felt like he was starting to get enough of the pieces for repairing one of the cars on his homeworld that the possibility of being able to explore more freely, to figure out what his homeworld needed him to do to make it all right again continued to slowly come closer to his hands. His sister and cousin each had their own powers, but the threesome worked together where possible, ensuring all three stayed as safe as could be.

Heck, even his homework was already all done. It was too cold for swimming, and his mother would be home today, so she was sleeping in.

Honestly, there was nothing to really get him up, nothing to really do, but to go on an early morning patrol, ostensibly to go jogging and maybe pick up a couple groceries on the way back. Maybe watch out for trouble. Honestly, mostly move his body, and try to figure out what was going on with him this morning.

Sighing, the teenager rose, texted his mother and sister to say what he was doing, got changed into his jogging gear, headed out the door, and found a quiet corner of the nearest park where he could transform in peace and begin the patrol in earnest.

As he started his patrol, Aberdonia looked around, feeling unusually alive and focused on his surroundings, which was odd, since there seemed to be no youma around, no chaos energy signatures whatsoever. Well, nothing that he could tell right this second. Pausing under a maple flaming red in its autumn foliage atop a hill, he gazed across Destiny City, wondering what this feeling this morning even was. It hadn’t even been a year since he’d first become a senshi, and here he was, alive, healthy, busy with life and his dead little asteroid, having survived both his first romantic relationship and the Calamitous Hollow, wondering why he felt so light and awake and alive this morning. As he lost himself in this strangeness, he failed to notice the silvery Mauvian kitten nearby.

Quicksilver had not been planning to find the first opportunity to escape now that she was aware. But when the chance presented itself the Mauvian darted out the place she had called home the past few weeks in order to ascertain just what it meant to be something more than just an ordinary cat. Already she knew that her name was not what the humans who had owned her had chosen. Seriously, Mouse? Okay, her fur was colored like your average mouse and she was rather on the diminutive side, but no, her name was not Mouse.

She was the lovely and brilliant Quicksilver. Was that overdoing it on her qualifications? Most assuredly. But that didn’t stop the young Mauvian from beaming a megawatt smile as she darted through a residential neighborhood. There was a lot to be desired with her current predicament but the feline merely loved to be able to stretch her muscles and really go all out with her flight from the dull life that would have been had she not awakened. She was truly awake now and she would not go back to the life of a sedentary housepet. Not when there were people that would be counting on her. Those powered individuals that would need her expertise on various matters. Reaching what she felt was a safe location did Quicksilver come to a complete halt in order to simply catch her breath. That had been truly exhilarating. She panted softly before padding over a rise before she let out a small gasp. A senshi? Out during the day? No no no. Quietly she snuck just a little closer to examine this individual before letting her presence be known. She let out a forlorn sounding mew before flopping over onto her side. She was merely acting for the sympathy she could experience but really, what was this senshi doing?

Aberdonia heard the sad little mew, and looked down. A cat? No. It had a start on its forehead. A Mauvian. He hadn’t seen one in months.

Smiling, he knelt down and extended a hand. “Hi. We haven’t met before. I’m Sailor Aberdonia, Senshi of Papyrus. What’s your name?” he asked politely, waiting to see if the Mauvian kitten would be fine with petting, particularly a belly rub. In his experience, cats didn’t seem fond of them, on aggregate, but this one might be different. Plus, well. Mauvian. Mauvians might be different. Mauvians could also give consent verbally. “Ummm. Were you asking for a belly rub, or something?” he asked uncertainly. “Because I could do that, if that’s what you were asking, but I’d really rather make sure you’re fine with it, first.”

Looking around and paying attention for any energy signatures, he couldn’t immediately identify any beyond his, and the Mauvian’s, energy signatures. Still safe. And oddly quiet this morning. Maybe just lucky, not all mornings had involved catastrophes. Most hadn’t, really. “What can I do you for? I was just squeezing in an early morning patrol, and I was going to get some groceries on the way home,” he added.

Quicksilver turned her head in order to better observe the senshi as he neared and then knelt at her side. Her nostrils flared as she took in the scent coming off of the offered hand before she sneezed. Well, that was one way to introduce oneself. Her paw came up to bat at Aberdonia’s fingers before she sneezed once more. Her mouth opened and then closed before she screwed up her face in a sign of concentration, “No thank you.”

The marked hesitance in her spoken words might have belied how young she was but the Mauvian pressed forward, choosing her words carefully.

“I do not need belly rubs. At least I don’t think I do right now.” She had been fond of them before and maybe that wouldn’t change now that she was different but her gaze widened a little before her eyes returned to their normal size. Although she was not sure what she was trying to do, Quicksilver started to purr a little before she moved to butt Aberdonia’s hand with her head. There seemed to be something about this senshi that had her senses humming and instincts clamoring for her to listen to them. Her voice held a softness as she stepped back to peer into the Papyrus senshi’s eyes, “are you feeling well? I sense something, off, about you.”

Aberdonia wasn’t offended by the batted hand, but his eyes did widen at the suggestion that something was wrong. She spoke slowly but clearly, but he hadn’t seen a Mauvian this young. Though it stood to reason they could come in kitten form, too….

He shook his head. “No. If anything, I feel almost unreasonably good, full of life and energy, like something’s supposed to be happening, and, for whatever reason, it just isn’t.”

A thought occurred to him. For the first time in the better part of a year, he had the time to really sit and talk with a Mauvian. And other senshi had been commenting how out of date his senshi phone was, how old-fashioned. A Mauvian could update it, get him onto a newer model.

He reached into subspace for his phone, and accidentally dislodged his henshin pen as well, causing it to fall with a muffled clatter to the dirt as he pulled out his senshi phone.

“Sorry about that! I haven’t really had a chance to speak with a Mauvian since I Powered up, but I need to ask about upgrading my phone to a newer model,” he admitted, setting down the phone and reaching for the pen, unaware that both objects were eligible for upgrades.

At Aberdonia’s insistence that he felt fine her purring stopped before resuming. At least then there was nothing ailing this young man. Still, there was something, just underneath the response she had been given that had Quicksilver mulling over the situation. She had not fully had the chance to understand what was being asked of her. The sight of the henshin pen falling out alongside the phone that was pulled out and presented to her had Quicksilver nosing both objects before she put her paw to what it was that she believed she was picking up on.

Her paw snaked out to drag the pen towards her even as she met Aberdonia’s gaze again. In her eyes, she tried to convey the need to trust her for a moment. She glanced back down to the pen once more before it clicked to what needed to be done. “I need to borrow this for a moment. After I’m done … I’ll see to your phone.”

Making sure that Aberdonia remained in her line of sight the kitten moved subtly to stand with her front paws on the senshi’s henshin pen before she dipped her head down in a small flourish before concentrating on what she knew instinctually to do. Breathing deeply the Mauvian gave a quiet sigh as the internal workings of both the pen and the starseed before her began to sync together. Dipping her head once more, Quicksilver's tiny pink tongue darted out to lick the symbol on top of the pen and she watched with satisfaction as a glow surrounded the pen before fading. Did she have to lick it, probably not, but in truth, it would probably cause some sort of reaction. She shifted her position to step off of the pen before she pushed it back towards the senshi. Her voice was calm, and somewhat confident, as she spoke again, “I think this is what was needed. If you take your pen back and say “Aberdonia asteroid power, make up” … you might end up feeling as if you are finally understanding what you seemed to be missing.”

Surprised, Aberdonia let the pen go, watching as the little Mauvian seemed to meditate on the pen. A warm, pleasant feeling enveloped his starseed for a fraction of a second, almost like it was humming along to whatever the Mauvian was doing, and then his starseed seemed to settle out. She licked the symbol, and the pen glowed for a brief moment. As the glow from the pen faded, the feeling he’d had all morning seemed to settle down with it, returning to the more stable pace of a morning like this one. He even felt a little sleepy, which, given how nocturnal teenagers could sometimes be, made sense. The senshi could go home after the grocery run and take a little nap, finish getting the necessary sleep.

As the Mauvian stepped off his pen, Aberdonia blinked. It looked…different. The cap with the highly stylized planet with planetary rings was gone, leaving a pen that looked more like a small wand, capped with a five-pointed star. The colors hadn’t changed, and the symbol of papyrus blossoms was still there, but the design had shifted in such a way that it felt like it meant something rather deeper. Carefully picking it up, he lifted it, and repeated, “Aberdonia Asteroid Power, Make-Up!”

The sensations he associated with transformation assailed him as they normally would, a feeling like layers of soft linen enveloping his skin.

Aberdonia looked down, startled. His fuku had changed. Gone were his sleeves, and his collar had changed shape, and gotten more sheer. His kilt now had a second layer, so at least the lower half of his body was more warmly dressed, even if the upper half was, if anything, less warmly dressed than before. But there were more grace notes, greens and metallic gold striping the edges of his wrapped top, his tiara was now a headband with trailing ends in the back, and his arm cuffs now bore his symbol of papyrus blossoms. His sandals had changed, fancier now, more likely to slide off. Oh, well. Not like he’d ever been a particularly offensive senshi, anyway, no real reason to start now. He’d just have to learn how to run in the new sandals…which would be just like running in flip-flops. So not all that new, when all was said and done.

Without thinking, he trailed his fingertips across the ground, wondering if the sands of Aberdonia would be harder to move around in with the new sandals than with the old, and abruptly remembered that most of what he interacted with was riverine mud and pavement.

And, out of the corner of his eye, he spotted something amazing. Something he hadn’t seen since the end of the fight with the Calamitous Hollow. Something he thought had been a weird fluke.

Behind his fingers now sprouted a row of papyrus shoots, growing steadily to a height of a few inches. And they didn’t immediately crumble away to nothing. It didn’t mean they’d be permanent, but still…

These were his. His little papyri. Something that would follow their Super Senshi where he went–

Wait. Super Senshi? Yes. Yeeesss. Aberdonia was now a Super Senshi. He had grown, as these little papyri had. The feelings this morning must’ve been a sign that he was ready for that growth, to take the next step as a senshi.

As Aberdonia reached down to take control of the changed pen Quicksilver moved to sit on her haunches before she subtly began to groom one of her front paws. Her expression was one of hopeful anticipation even as the Papyrus senshi straightened up and spoke the words that would dictate the next step in his progression as a senshi. The transformations always would vary of course, they always did, but the end result was the same. Before her now stood a super senshi: a warrior capable of wielding more power than they would have before the transformation took effect. Even as the newly upgraded senshi took stock of the changes that had happened, did Quicksilver make her own observations. Whatever she had done seemed to have done the trick at least in the sense that whatever had felt off before did not seem to exist anymore. It was a relief.

The sight of little shoots of plant material that trailed after Aberdonia had run his fingers along the ground had the Mauvian looking just a little alarmed. Was this some strange anomaly? It didn’t seem to bother the senshi before her so she just let the strangeness of the situation pass. Instead she padded over to stare down at the phone that had been forgotten before nosing at the device. Okay, the pen had felt straightforward enough to deal with, and it had solved one problem, but how did one upgrade a phone?

Licking the pen after concentrating on it had made something happen, if she tried that with the phone would she get the same result? Or was there something else she could do? She pushed the device around with her paws for a few minutes before giving the softest of sighs. No, licking this would not help at all, she concluded mentally as she began to circle around the inert device. Finally something seemed to occur in her thought process and she bore down on the phone with her will alone, pushing with all the mental strength she had, compelling … no ordering the phone to change to suit Aberdonia’s need for something better.

At first all it seemed she was doing was giving herself a headache but as the minutes passed something shifted and the pressure of resistance faded and then it was over. Looking down at the phone that had been flipped closed did Quicksilver give a startled sound of surprise at the newer looking device that was in front of her. It was sleek and compact … and really really shiny. “I think this is what you wanted for your phone,” she ended the sentence with a question hanging in the air. If Aberdonia didn’t want the upgraded phone … well then, she’d give it a good home.

Aberdonia patiently watched the little Mauvian push his senshi phone around, then circle around it, letting her work it out on her own time. She was a kitten, so it made sense things might still be a bit new for her. Finally, she seemed to meditate on it, and the phone’s shape almost seemed to melt and liquefy, like it was made out of a molten metal, for a fraction of a second, before it reformed into the shape of a sleek, shiny smartphone, such as those that might be sold at an Apple or Verizon store in a busy indoor mall, but not so large that it was difficult to operate. It wasn’t large enough to really enjoy mobile gaming on, but Aberdonia wasn’t that much of a mobile gamer, and, besides, this was his senshi phone, not his regular phone. A smaller size would do nicely.

“Thank you,” he said, delicately picking the new phone up off the ground, and popping both pen and phone into subspace, where they’d be safe. “They’re both beautiful, and I greatly appreciate the assistance in upgrading phone, pen, and person,” he added with a smile. “Anything I can treat you to before I get going? It seems the least I can do for your kindness this morning.”

Well, shoot. It seemed like the phone was going home with the senshi. Quicksilver acknowledged the gratitude that Aberdonia was bestowing on her before she thought about what seemed to be an open-ended offer. He had mentioned going to buy groceries earlier so maybe she could ask for something related to food as her treat. She paused to consider her request, small as it was to her at least, before speaking softly.

“If it isn’t too much to ask for, perhaps something I could snack on. Nothing big. Just something to tide me over for the time being.”

If Aberdonia consented, she’d follow him on his grocery errand and then after getting her treat, part ways. There was another place that she needed to be, or so it seemed to be that way.

For all the favors the little Mauvian had done for him, which, yes, might be her duty, but, still, deserved something nice for the trouble, a snack seemed more than reasonable. Aberdonia grinned. “Sure! Lemme find someplace to Power down safely, and then you can tag along while I get groceries. I don’t think I can take you into the store, but I should still be able to get you something you’d like.”

Looking around, he spotted a convenient tube on the playground. Cramped, but it would do in a pinch. He hurried over, climbed up and in, Powering down as he reached the middle of the plastic confines. Crawling back out again, he hopped off the playground, jogging back over to the little Mauvian.

“Now! What sort of treat did you have in mind?” he asked, beginning to walk toward the grocery store, making sure that his pace was comfortable for the little Mauvian. Whatever the rest of the day would bring, whatever would come from his growth into a Super senshi, he would face it with the common decency of having paid one favor back with another, and a willingness to do it again.
