The Gameboard
Destiny City is a large place, with a large population. It’s not uncommon to find a lost item here or there. Maybe a keychain, an earring, a book.
But, a six sided die? That’s different.
While traveling through Destiny City, you find a strange little object. It looks like old, stained wood, but something shiny in it catches your eye. How could you resist picking it up? But then, maybe you've found one of these dice before. Maybe you remember the Gameboard, already.
That's okay.
Even if you know better than to pick it up, all you have to do is look at it, and it's ensnared you. Again.
It looks like a normal die in terms of shape, and each side has a gilded number, one through six, carved into it. The most interesting part of it all is that the dice seems to be made of old, stained wood with fossilized opal throughout the whole piece. Something about it called to you, and now that it has your attention, a harsh wind slams into you. Darkness falls all around you–and then, slowly, a path illuminates. It’s black all around you; there’s no light, but you can see clearly marked spaces.
A line of squares unwind in front of you, each clearly marked.
You can’t see anything around you, can’t feel anything else–just the gameboard. And the die. Whether its in your hand or on the ground where you left it, it's there with you.
Even if you don’t recognize the game, you don’t really need instructions to know how to play–you have a die, and you have a path. In the distance, you can barely make out a dark wooden platform at the end of the path, but it seems to have the same fossilized opal inlay as the die–and pretty golden symbols along the rim.
You can’t step out of your square. Trying to leave the gameboard results in you walking to an invisible barrier and it feels like slamming into a glass wall. You cannot leave your space–unless the die says you can. If you want to get out of here, you’re going to have to roll your way there–but it isn’t so easy.
Strange gold markings differ from one square to the next. There’s no telling what they mean–you’re going to have to land on them to find out.
Though, judging by the tension in the air, it’s probably not going to be anything good.

Her trot along the road was casual. That night, with the crisp chill of autumn fully set in, Realta actually felt a bit cold. The notion brought a small groan from the Mauvian, tail bristling as her whole body slightly puffed up in a shiver with what it could manage with her... rather short coat.
Yes, she was far more built for warmer climates... and late autumn, never mind winter in Destiny City, was very much not that. However, she didn't have the luxury to simply hibernate for the winter, shut herself off perhaps in HQ or in Lilith's condo and Regula's house, or Kyrie's van...
No, she still needed to do her patrols, keeping an eye out for attacks on civilians, and especially any starseeds beginning to bloom with power. As it was, her wandering was typically where she came across her young charges and could easily check up on them. So there was a constant use for her to roam! Even if she heavily disliked the cold. So, keeping up her trotting, moving along swiftly as she could, served to both help her cover more ground quickly, and also to keep her warm.
Though, as she crossed into one of many parks, hidden from prying eyes by what leaves remained stubbornly stuck to trees and dense hedges, she flicked her tail this way and that a few times. Just because she was so chilled as a feline... well, there was a rather easy counter to that, now wasn't there?
And so, guarded and hidden as she was, the Mauvian focused her magic about herself, pulling it inward and condensing it into herself and her form. Through its pulse and energy, her body reformed, elongating and shifting till she stood anew on two legs. The woman smiled slightly, relieved at least the various layers of her attire in this form were far more befitting the chill than her fur coat. Plus with the medallion she carried... she didn't need to be concerned about signaling her presence to unwanted sorts. Pleased with this, she continued on her stroll, hands clasped delicately before her as she padded silently along the paved paths through the park. No other energy signatures reached her senses, and her ears continued to twitch about to and fro, even if they only snagged on the hum of city life and the occasional chirp or rustle of branches as a squirrel or bird relocated itself.
The night was peaceful, and though she could certainly enjoy that, she knew better than to lower her guard. Especially considering it was so close to Halloween, and the city had quite the tendency towards--
...strange happenings.
Pearlescent eyes narrowed, ears flicking forward as she stared down at the small object sitting neatly in the middle of the path. A single die, wood and... opal? It looked beautiful, and something about it seemed... familiar almost..? She couldn't place it, though the sense lingered about her mind as she moved carefully towards it. No other dice laid about, and she couldn't hear anyone nearby that might have dropped it. It's position was peculiar though, so perfectly sat, and with the snake eye staring straight up. It seemed less discarded or forgotten and more... placed.
But it was very pretty...
Realta didn't consider it odd how she crouched beside it, reaching for it easily as she did. Picking it up felt natural, expected, required. It didn't occur to her how it shouldn't be, that this was a warning... even as the wind swarmed and battered her, tearing at her hair and attire, darkness enveloping her and devouring the world around her. Emptiness consumed everything, save a patch of glowing white beneath her where the sidewalk had sat. Another block, larger than the sidewalk but still a block, sat illuminated beyond her. Empty. Waiting.
...a heavy sigh left her as she tried to reorganize her hair, scowling a bit at how easily she'd been ensnared. "...I believe Solaris mentioned something about this before," she mumbled to herself, chagrined at her situation. Seeing no easy way out otherwise, she did the only thing she could reasonably do in this situation: Realta rolled the die.
