Name: Ronan Haruo Tierney
Nickname: His mother is the only one who can get away with calling him Nanners.
Gender/Pronoun: Demimasc, He/They
Age: 27
Birthday: January 14
Sign: Capricorn
Gemstone: Garnet
Blood Type: A-
Fav. Food: Medovik, baklava, pretty much any baked good involving honey. He's got a sweet tooth in general though and is easily bribed with sugary snacks.
Hated Food: Fish. Any kind of fish.
School/Occupation: He works in preservation and restoration of rare books at a local library and does private book restoration at a family friend's shop as a side business. He recently completed his archives and preservation MA at DCU, though he has been experimenting with less rare and expensive book restoration since high school. He is willing to do restoration of personal items such as scrapbooks, photo albums, and family bibles for free if he knows or sympathizes with the owner.
Hobbies:
Reading -- You don't dedicate yourself to preserving and restoring books unless you love them. Ronan spends a lot of time reading and has a particular fondness for dark sci-fi novels along with a love for classical literature. He always has a long list of books to read and runs a blog on book restoration and antique books.
Podcasting -- Ronan has a podcast discussing antique books and their histories that he updates weekly. While it's not a massive success, he has a small but dedicated following consisting of others who share his enthusiasm.
Archery -- Ronan picked up archery at summer camp as a kid and discovered he had a knack for it. He enjoys marksmanship contests and has a couple of playful rivalries in local archery groups.
Hammered Dulcimer -- Ronan first heard the hammered dulcimer at a performance his parents took him to at the age of twelve and it immediately mesmerized him. After weeks of pleading, his parents bought him a book and the least expensive used dulcimer they could find. Despite a bit of initial frustration, he developed a skill and an intense love for the instrument and his parents eventually bought him a more expensive one for his sixteenth birthday. For now he is too shy to play in front of people, but given time he might be willing to play for an audience of one or two.
Virtues:
Polite -- Ronan makes a point of being polite to everyone he encounters, even if he might not necessarily like them. He considers it important to not allow his personal feelings to interfere with conducting himself with anything less than courtesy toward others. Though it may be uncomfortable for him, he doesn't flinch away from telling someone an unpleasant truth, as he believes that it would be doing them a greater disservice to lie. However, he tries to present his negative opinions in a kind if dispassionate manner. He is genuinely nice, but it can be difficult to tell how much he actually likes someone because his general demeanor doesn't tend to show a lot of change between people unless someone knows him well.
Reliable -- If Ronan says that he's going to do something, he is definitely going to follow through (barring his own death, maiming, or other factor outside of his control). He produces work of consistent quality and always meets his deadlines. This can lead him to work himself to the point of exhaustion trying to ensure that he fulfills all of his obligations, but he would see it as a moral failing if he didn't.
Strong Sense of Integrity -- Ronan has strong core values and he adheres to them to the best of his ability. This applies to his commitment to social justice, his honesty, his professional pride, and will eventually apply to his role as a knight and protector. He isn't the sort to be swayed from his ideals without concrete evidence (a lot of it). This can be problematic for his social relationships because he can be a bit inflexible when it comes to his sense of right and wrong.
Flaws:
Oblivious -- Ronan is well-meaning, but misses a lot of social cues that other people wouldn't. Because of this he has difficulty in a lot of social situations, particularly when he doesn't know the people in question. He tries to train himself on what situations call for certain behavior, but despite his best efforts, he sometimes comes off as rude, offensive, or insensitive.
Rigid -- Ronan has a difficult time when he has to do something in any way other than how he would like to. He has his routines and does not respond well to changes. He will uncomfortably adapt to new professional techniques as long as they're better for the books, but struggles more when it comes to adapting to new personal situations.
Reticent -- Ronan is an intensely private person and does not open up to others easily on top of being generally taciturn. It's not that he dislikes people, he's just not terribly interested in talking about himself. Carrying on a conversation with him can be like pulling teeth in dealing with his one or two word answers. Developing a relationship with him requires a significant amount of effort and patience, and many people lose interest in trying. He tends to become chattier when it comes to his more esoteric interests.
