He hadn’t wanted to be the heir.

Not at first. At first, Jarsyl had been just a child; clueless, wild, unexpecting of his future. He chased anything that caught his attention and shouted his dreams with unrefined vigor. He’d always known he was royalty — how couldn’t he? He and his siblings had worn the title from birth, but, as a cub, it never felt heavy. It was just how things were: he was a prince. his parents were king and queen, and the land was as much theirs as it was his.

Except, it wasn’t.

The word “heir” grew heavier as he aged, like thick, iron chains tightening around his shoulders. More and more, eyes turned toward him, seeking answers, reassurance, hope. One day, his parents would no longer rule, and then it would be his duty to protect the people of snow and cold. His legacy.
His rebellion froze over, hardened into something quiet and reserved. Outwardly, he became what he viewed was the perfect son: proper, dutiful, composed. But underneath, dread pooled in his chest like black ice. Could he truly lead? Did he even want to? What about his siblings? Wasn’t one of them better suited to the title? The doubt crept in, slow and cold. He held it back with bared teeth and a grit jaw, swallowing it back each time it threatened to boil over.

He’d be the king they needed, when the time came. No matter how his chest ached. No matter how his heart shivered, for he was the heir — the Yetling.

Goals:

• As a cub, I’d like him to explore the boundaries of his title young. He’d be a wild child, prone to chasing after anything of interest, rebelling when challenged, and without restraint. Perhaps he gets into trouble with his siblings, or leads them into breaking rules? Reckless and adventurous, he’d live life wild.
  
• As a teenager, the title begins to settle onto his shoulders — heavy, and slowly suffocating. No matter how his parents assure him (or don’t), Jarsyl will realize that the title of Yetling means he would someday take the reigns from his parents. It’d be his duty to ensure the safety of his people, he who shared the future alongside his council. His rebellions would lessen, and he’d find himself correcting his siblings behavior. He might have one last excursion — a final thrash against the self-imposed fear looming, but then he’d settle into shadowing his parents to learn about his future duties. I’d be excited at the idea of him perhaps dating around this period, but the relationship ending either because he viewed them as not suited for royal life (perhaps they are as wild as he used to be?), or because he spent so much time studying over nurturing his relationship.
  
• His adult years are open to RP and plots. I’d enjoy testing his new, rigid calm exterior — maybe someone gets close to him and starts to see the cracks? If he had dated as a teenager, I’d welcome any back and forth drama (surprise cubs? love triangle? who knows!). The initial goal is for him to mature and come to peace with his title, learning from experience and wisdom of his parents and settling into a comfortable position as the Yetling. He always wanted to see beyond the lands, so perhaps he leads excursions outside for supplies, and brings back new faces time to time? HOWEVER, he’s open to anything, whether that means an entire sharp turn from current plans and into something else. Ultimately, he means and wants well for his people, and would do anything for them, he just needs to understand that he’s his own worse enemy internally.
