Locations: Deepest section of hell and then a pocket dimension
When: Takes place after Lock & Key
                                              Characters: Knowledge and Levi

Hell had an intruder walking its very halls. They traveled without taking a single step upon this infernal grounds, shimmered with the brilliance of stars, and stood out amongst the stark architecture around them. This being would have done more than just blinded any lesser creature that looked upon her form. Such a feeble mind would have been driven mad from the wisdom and awareness forced into it. To look upon this being was to accept just how truly small they were. Not many could ever face a god in their entirety in the first place but it was even worse when they had to face the very epitome of Knowledge. Thousands of words in hundreds of languages flicking across the deity's celestial form. An infinite dark expanse with a humanoid form that detailed and charted this vast universe. Such a pure yet unnerving sight to those who watched.

                                              Yet none did.

None of the devils that walked these forsaken halls could see her. Knowledge floated past them all wordlessly as she delved deeper and deeper. Her figure passing before their very eyes and yet there was no reaction. The very presence of this god was masked to them in a way that distorted reality. It allowed her to search in peace. Away from prying eyes... Even the ones the thousands that imprinted themselves on the walls around her as she went deeper. So, that thing truly had the power to see even down here. What a wretched beast. To think, she had found something she hated and feared more than him. No, it was worse than that. That monster was so freakish that it even pushed her to this. How could she be so ignorant of what it was that she looked for that revolting devil to know more. She dashed her self-loathing and pushed on.

This way... That way... Through every room... And every hall... Nothing.

He wasn't here. How? Knowledge peered off aimlessly as she thought over this. There were only three beings that could truly mask themselves from her perception that she knew of. One was because it's existence within this reality was beyond her own. The other two though... They didn't even belong in this reality. The devil was the latter. Still, she was certain that he would be here of all places unless he had gone "elsewhere". A space from before. That left her only one option but it could expose a disgusting vulnerability. At the same time, she knew far too well they didn't have long... He didn't have long. So, she used that heinous connection between them. A star aligning at the center of her chest before it started to shine brighter and brighter. A small line of words suddenly appearing from where her lips might be and shifting down towards the star. A message sent that spanned realities. What had she sent?

"Where the hell are you, you man-whore?"

“Where the hell are you, you man-whore?”

Likely to her annoyance, the divine manifestation of knowledge was met with several seconds of cold stale silence. It was a chilling absence of acknowledgement that seemed to swell completely against the interior of the infernal citadel. Was it worth it? Was touching that repulsive, and potentially lethal, connection that blossomed after their tangling really going to grant her with nothing but neglect? The quietness was deafening at this point, nearly thirty seconds had gone by without any sort of answer. Then, one by one, golden threads strewn all over the castle like an ethereal web suddenly shimmered to life. It was as if they had always been around her, invisible and dormant until that very moment. The awakening of these strands came with a warmth that washed over her like a soothing balm, one that was both familiar and yet…wounded. The threads ran through walls like phantasms and split randomly before parting in varied directions-some even out of the Hells. One of these strands even found itself ending right at the god’s chest. The sight of the glimmering web faded as soon as it appeared, as did that invisible blanket of comfort as if they were all part of an ebbing tide.

“G-good to see you too, nerd.”

His voice, far more tender than her earlier rebuke, captured her mind with a deep clear resonance. It rang through the stain-like connection she had called out to him with and it became undeniably clear that The Devil was either wounded or worse-but she was well aware of that already. Each reverberating telepathic syllable suggested that he was amidst some distant struggle or even agony. Before she could further digest the connotation of his tone, however, her sight was consumed by a blinding white curtain of oblivion that stole the footing beneath her and ripped the familiar air of the reality she knew from around her…and in its place…came something entirely alien. This…whatever this was… surely was his realm-or what was left of it. While she could not see anything beyond the painted nothingness before her, she soon felt the familiar texture of bladed grasses beneath her feet…the delicate wisp of a fragrant wind that carried the smell of water and flora that belonged to a time long forgotten…

Then, for the first time in this existence, the blank canvas of the dimension she found herself in began to fall away to vibrant colors mingled with insurmountable chaos. Beautiful broad landscapes of foreign vegetation, distant waters, and an unfamiliar sky were eroding as ripples of charged divine energy beyond even her understanding rolled through the entirety of this alien vivarium-like realm in destructive waves. Knowledge stood amidst a chunk of fractured earth, where the deepest of the fissures- opened up to a depthless black beneath. Though the breaks didn’t last long as weakened arcane forces pulled the pieces back together only for them to eventually split apart again when the next pulse of that energy washed over everything again. Further out to her left she could see the carcass of what was likely a large lake, with moist terrain in the shape of a large reservoir that was also caught into the fracturing loop that had drained it before she arrived. Some of the water hovered above the land, disjointed and suspended in an unnatural state that spoke to how even the physics of this world was broken. The violet sky above her cracked like shattering glass before the jagged broken veins. Even the watchful moon appeared as if it were…melting…

Perhaps she would have found herself in similar straits as well, victim to that radiating arcana that washed over this place, if it weren’t for a thin membrane of energy delicately draped over her like some impenetrable shawl…more than that was the fact that it wasn’t just her being protected. Behind her, perhaps a mile out…was a small wooden house…fortified by an unquantifiable amount of the same magical shielding protecting her, layered one over another. The arcane code bringing these phenomena to life were also designed by theories of magic beyond the knowledge of even gods…and even then…it wasn’t perfect. She could still feel how unsettling and nauseating each destructive pulse was.

Then…further out before her…was the source. A large crater superheated from the radiating destruction and at its center was a singular man who was on his knees. He wore fragments of tattered robes, revealing the charred flesh underneath as golden flames cackled across body. The black sores of the burns bled a thick viscous golden ichor, which pooled beneath him at the center of the basin in a small molten puddle of truly divine ambrosia that shimmered with mysterious energy. There was a heterochromatic glow to it as well…and peering into it was to glimpse into the incomprehensible framework that tied all existence together.

At one point, as Knowledge grew closer to the crux of this disarray, she could see that each pulse of the Omniarch energy radiating from Levi also brought into view those webs of golden strands…all of which reached out from the Devil’s torso. It brought the one ending at her chest back into view for a brief moment, but this time, she could see a fiber of that arcane strand fray and, in that moment, she had lost a memory of Levi. She would feel the sudden absence of information where there once was something…and then the fiber drifted back to the main strand ending at her chest, guided by the weak mana that was repairing everything else around her, and melted back into it. The Memory was back now…and with it came the true nature of what was happening…this was Levi’s punishment for dawning such power when he didn’t have the capacity to wield it…and normally it would have killed…no…completely ’erased’ anyone else…and yet here he was surviving it.

If it weren’t for Levi’s protection, it was possible that the energy might have lashed out at Knowledge and attempted to do the same to her for just being near the unstable anomaly that Levi had become…though…her arrival would pull at the corners of Levi’s mouth. He was tired, his blue and green eyes dull…but he was doing his best to make it seem that fighting off oblivion was easier than it actually was. He barely lifted his head to welcome her, his eyelids fluttering as the flames cackled louder. “Long time no see, Ţ̷͇̥̪̲̞̪͙̠͙͋͒̔͗͜͝r̸̝̫͚̘̘̣̬̙͎̙̮̱̯̭̎̃͒̽̐͝͝ư̶̯̪̭̥̹̌͒̏̈́͘͠t̶̗̰͍͕̳̋̆̀̾͗͐̾̈́̇͐͝h̴̘̿͆̋ ̸̛̺̭͎̯͎͍̼̖̖̟̖̙̒̀͒̃̌̿̀͠Ș̵̼̱̖̓͒̈̾̋̂̓͋͒̒͛̅̚̚͝ë̵̢̟͓̮̼̬̃̊͠ͅề̶̢͕̺̝̭̙̳̗̩̭̬̂̆̀͑͠k̵̮͎͚̲͈̮̉͗͂̄̈́̚ͅȩ̵̡̬̼̖̖̺͚̘̍r̸̰̻̤͚̙̯̰̣͈̓̍̄̓,” Levi’s voice sounded so very fragile…but…but at some point his lips…they kept moving…but no sound came from it. In its place was nothing auditory…no, it was so much more than that. What Levi spoke was deep and intrinsic to Knowledge, like it was a fundamental that her very genesis blossomed from. She felt it as a piece of her that she always had and never knew of-something that solely belonged to her.

“It's a Beautiful n-name isn't it? One of the reasons I was so drawn to-,” another vile pulse erupted from him and echoed across the dimension, forcing a strangled groan from the Devil as he momentarily dedicated himself to keeping everything from crumbling. After several moments, he continued. “To you…It’s why you’re here as well…Isn’t it? I’d like to think you were here to check in on me…but I know better.”

Silence was the only reply given to her call across time and space. A detestable response when anyone was seeking answers. However, the celestial being did not let this deter or dishearten her for even a second. After all, she knew the traveler was out there even now. He was beyond the stars and darkness of this reality that she could walk but he was indeed out there. This connection between them let her know that much even if she was still afraid of its power. They would have their meeting now or later regardless of whether he answered her. As soon as he entered this reality once again, Knowledge would surge towards him with all her might as a deity. A demand for all that he knew regarding that twisted creature. Luckily, she wouldn't have to wait. While the rest of her body remained perfectly still, that fathomless, starry face shifted just an inch to the left. Golden threads pulling up suddenly. Each one lifting into the air with such grace and beauty but Knowledge did not regard them with fascination. It was merely recognition that he had heard her.

“G-good to see you too, nerd.”

He's hurt... And he still acts like this. The pain and suffering within his strained words so clear that she could partially feel it herself. Empathy sending a ripple throughout her soul that she never asked for. Why did she feel bad for him? Was it because she knew the circumstances for his pain? It was her own kin within the godly realms that had done this. Ignoring cost of mortal lives and the sheer devastation, those fools had cast themselves into a battle against this man. No, that didn't seem right but it was also unimportant. These emotions were a distraction from her goal. The feeling ripped out as soon as it came as Knowledge prepared herself for what would come next.

All the stars within her form flared with a newfound energy as they suddenly started to split. Her body gaining depth quickly as a second form started to slip out from her. It mirrored the first in many ways but had a dimmer light within those galactic bodies that shined inside. The deity's separate instance being the one to welcome the embrace of those golden threads and wait for Levi to carry her away. It wasn't like she was trying to trick the devil or guard herself in some way. Knowledge's existence was tied to this realm for better or for worse. If something tried to tear her from this reality, the consequences would be truly dire. There was a way around this at the very least. Parsing herself into two beings allowed her to traverse such paths into separate realms and, in this case, entirely different realities. Both beings would stay connected by a thin strand so they truly were one and the same.

That certainly didn't mean that the experience wasn't any less disorienting for the god. As a being of knowledge, she found everything to be familiar to her now. The universe she resided in a home that she traversed daily. A comforting shell that she knew the bounds of... At least, she thought she did until rather recently. To be pulled into an entirely new reality, it was a terrifying and yet thrilling experience. The energy of seeing the unknown flickering within every star as she turned her head slowly to see this new and broken world. Every sight memorized into her mind for as long as she existed. The gaping fissures that ran through the earth, threatening to swallow up everything, the water defying the rules of reality as it floated above the land, and so much more. Knowledge even documented the smallest blades of grasp within her perfect memory. When else would she get to see a dying world... If she had it her way, never again.

Knowledge floated along at a steady pace as she wished to "document" her surroundings as she went, but she also needed to stay focused on her task. Trails of darkness flowing like smoke behind her as she pushed on to her goal. A pitiful being scorned for using powers never meant for him. His wretched body at the center of this all with golden strands reaching out to a crumbling world... And her. When the strand disconnected from her, it stole him away momentarily. His memory gone so suddenly that it shook and angered the goddess to her core. No one was allowed to steal away what she knew. Even if his memories were tainted and his existence terrified her, Knowledge did not want that past erased. Her fury calming as the memory returned and so she pushed on forward.

Never had she seen this man looking so pathetic. Such a sight seemed impossible to her throughout the centuries since she first met him. When she first laid eyes on him, she found him utterly fascinating for being a true mystery to her. As she learned more, Knowledge became terrified. Pity, however, was never a thing upon her mind until now. This feeling wouldn't dwell within her starry soul for long as he called out her name. Her real name. Words that hadn't been uttered by a mortal mouth. Its call able to pull her attention from galaxies away but she was before the very man who said it right now. So, he got to see how she reacted. That starry sky within her flaring as words rushed across the black night. How dare you use her name at a time like this.

"We both know it's far too late to pretend such frivolous romance is even possible. Besides..." Knowledge floated even closer. He tone didn't contain the anger that flared within her stars. Instead, it was so calm and matter of fact. Emotions were meaningless given what they were facing. "You were already drawn to a being from your era and you desired her still within my era. Now, let us focus." Knowledge floating before him. She'd find no solace from her in his fall from grace and dying days. At least, not now. "You toyed with powers far beyond you, traveler, and all to incite the wrath of a beast far beyond us. Why? What is that thing that even eludes my nigh omnipotent gaze? What exactly is it after and what does it have to do with the mortals that you protected?"
