The Meteor Shower (3) : It wouldn't be a star festival without a meteor shower! Right on time, a beautiful array of shooting stars graces the night sky. This time of year is unnaturally clear and it's incredibly easy to see the stars. Most meteor fragments appear to be little white or yellow lights streaming across the sky, but if you watch closely enough you may find that some of them seem to be a whole rainbow of colors. The scientists have reported that it's just different components burning up as they enter the atmosphere, but there's something undeniably magical about it.

Sable had decided it would be a goodnight for a picnic she'd heard about the meteor shower and wanted to go sit and watch it so she packed up some finger sandwiches that included cucumber, ham roll ups and a peanut butter. The normal sandwiches were cut into little triangles and the ham roll ups were cut so they were rounds and easy to eat. She also had some petite fours and a vegetable tray that had cucumbers, carrots and celery sticks with french onion dip and ranch dip. She also made sure there were potato chips and some cookies.
She hummed as she packed her picnic basket and she texted her sister to see if they were going to meet up at the park where the meteors were suppose to be able to be seen the best at. She made sure Sade was going to bring the sodas and plates. Then she took off towards the park and carrying the picnic basket was the easy part. Managing to find a place that wasn't totally crowded wasn't terribly hard either as she spread out the picnic blanket and started setting up the food while waiting on Sade to appear.
When she got a text from her sister Sade sighed and checked her messages and responded back she'd be there shortly. She had grabbed a couple of six packs of sodas along with some lemonades. It took a little longer for her to get to the park and her sister had already set up and was nibbling on cucumbers and Sade sighed, "Couldn't just wait on me could you sis?" She chuckled softly as she dropped off the two six packs of sodas and the lemonade. She settled herself on the opposite edge of the picnic blanket so she could see the meteors streaking across the sky.
"Do you think we'll see a lot of the meteors tonight?" Sade asked as she picked up one of the peanut butter sandwiches. She was nibbling on that with some of the chips and dip as she looked up towards the sky.
"It's about time you show up, I was wasting away." Sable teased as she took a soda for herself waiting for her sister to settle on the picnic blanket. To be fair it wasn't that long of a wait she just wanted to make it seem like she'd been there much longer than the other had been.
She took a carrot as she shrugged softly, "I think we'll see a decent bit, I don't know if it's suppose to be peak night for the shower but at least it's not cloudy where we can't see anything."
She picked up a couple of the ham roll up slices and put some of the french onion dip on her plate and started nibbling on those as she looked towards the sky. She saw a streak of green, "Oh there was one!" She said when she saw it zoom past.
Sade was watching the sky and her sister saw it before she could say anything. There were a couple of normal colored meteors that streaked past before she saw a pink and purple. "Oh look at those two!" She said pointing towards where they streaked by, "Should we make a wish on our favorite colored meteor if we see it?"
Sade wondered if wishing on these colorful meteors would bring a wish true? When a blue on streaked past she decided to make a wish anyways. Just in case there was a little extra magic in these shooting stars. She then picked up a couple of carrot sticks and looked over to her sister curiously.
Sable followed her sister pointing towards the pink and purple streaks in the sky. She was smiling as she took a sip of her drink, "I don't know Sade, it couldn't hurt. I mean this place is pretty magical it could come true."
It wasn't a bad idea, after all the way this city was. Anything could happen. Sable watched as a blue streak lit the sky then more normal meteors zoomed on by before she saw another purple. Quickly taking a second herself to make a wish. Maybe they would come true. After all this was a magical feeling place sitting here watching a meteor shower that had rainbow colored tails. You couldn't do that anywhere else in the world she would bet on it.
"Do you think it's because of where we are that the meteors are this color? I mean would this happen anywhere else?" Sade mused as she munched on some of the ham roll ups and more potato chips. When she was finished with that she slipped a few cucumbers and carrots onto her plate with the ranch dip and munched on those watching more of the meteors streak by in the sky.
Honestly she could sit here and watch nature's fireworks all night, they were calming and something just made the atmosphere feel that much more magical.
"It's a shame we can't get our parents to come hang out with us. Dad would probably love watching this, he'd probably bring his telescope. You know how big of a space buff he is." There was a chuckle thinking about how their father would be trying to figure out what minerals made up the meteors that colored the sky. She watched as another round of colored meteors shot across this time including orange and yellow tails.
Sable sighed softly when Sade said it was a shame their parents weren't there. "Yeah of course they have to go gallivanting around the world since they're retired and Dad would've loved this." There was a chuckle thinking at how excited their father would've been to watch these meteors streak across the sky leaving colorful trails before they burned up in the atmosphere. "I wonder if we could take pictures and send to them?"
Sable pulled out her phone, "I... didn't bring my selfie stick though." She seemed thoughtful.
"I brought mine!" Sade said in a singsong voice pulling out her selfie stick and dropping her phone onto it with a hum before moving to fling her arm around her sister and giving a peace sign while snapping pictures of both of them with the meteors in the background. "Ohhh this is a good one look at all the colors Sable!"
She was excited as she showed off one of the pictures she snapped and then sent them to their father. "I really hope he's excited about how these came out and jealous he couldn't be here." The pair stayed for another hour before packing up whatever food was left and calling it a night.
