Quote: Starfish Scares (13) : Starfish live in the sea. They do not live in freshwater rivers, lakes, or reservoirs with no connection to the ocean. Starfish are also not social creatures. And yet, here they are–in hoards. They can be found near any water source–and far from it. These starfish seem to be a unique species that are eager to travel and don’t seem quite bound to water, though they will seek it out. The starfish will latch onto just about anything they can to hitch a ride, even though they’re fast. They secrete an itchy, oozy slime after they’ve latched onto something, and though it seems as though they can absorb nutrients from any living creature, these starfish have an odd penchant for blood. You might as well have a colorful leech stuck to you as soon as you think one of these things crawling your way. Their bites are sharp and will leave the nearby skin itchy and painful. They are a bit difficult to remove but they can be killed; as soon as they have perished, they will rapidly dry out and crumble. However, it’s far more likely that they’ll escape before you can get your hands on them. Be vigilant; these things are pests–and smart enough to cling to people and vehicles alike if it means getting to where they want to go. Something was going on, something very weird, and Okenite was less than excited about all the odd things popping up. It made it harder than it already was for him to try gathering energy, especially when the hell starfish started popping up. Some of them had even hitched a ride on some of the students coming into class. Though the general consensus was that they were annoying, not horrific. Something he disagreed with but tried not to make a show of in front of his students. Sea creatures were not a thing that Okenite liked, so far from the skybound birds and things he preferred to study. So as he peeled one off his briefcase in distaste, he felt a chill of grossness crawl down his spine. Flinging the thing into a bush, he was not excited in the slightest to see more of them coming up from one of the sewer grates. With all the commotion, he didn't even notice someone else approaching, someone who should have otherwise set off alarm bells in his mind.

Iapetus had been following energy signatures. She’d felt one fairly close by and decided to check it out. Sure, it was hella gross feeling, but that wasn't the point. She wanted to make sure the owner of said signature knew better than to try and hurt anyone. What she hadn’t expected as she closed in, were the random a** starfish everywhere.
Now, she’d watched plenty of nature docs and she’s been to plenty of aquariums back in the day. Starfish were not supposed to be this far inland, much less this far from the actual ocean! And as she paused to watch, she realized that they were all moving a lot faster than the ones she’d seen in the holding pool back in the day. So… weird. But not terribly alarming. Brushing thought of the starfish to the side, she went back to tracking and soon enough found the source of the ick.
He looked very Srs Bizness with his little briefcase. She watched as he flung a starfish away and snorted a laugh. Even from this angle she could see the distaste on his face. Which, okay, fair enough. Everyone had their hangups, she wouldn’t shame. But neither would she just let him pass without having a word.
Moving closer, she paused when she saw that there were waves of starfish coming up through the sewer grate. Ugh. Maybe this was something the Negaverse had cooked up? Regardless, she had the officer in her sights now. The only question left was did she provide a helpful warning and strike out of nowhere?
The dilemma was solved by the simple expedient of a starfish managing to latch onto her foot and ******** biting her. Screeching, she kicked out, managing to fling the thing into the same bush that the officer had tossed his little pal.
“Son of a b***h! What the actual hell?!?”

More of the starfish were coming up from the drain, bringing that smell of sewage and runoff with them. So, backing up felt like the best idea for Okenite, at least until he heard a screech and then noticed the feeling of someone else here. Seeing a senshi, one he was definitely not prepared to deal with, he grabbed some of the gross things and flung them at her. Internally, he shrieked at how they felt and how much scrubbing he would have to do to feel clean again after handling them, but it was better than using his briefcase for the moment. They'd have to be closer for him to hit her with it anyway, and he didn't like the idea of senshi being so close. You never knew what weird magic they were going to fling when it came down to it, and he was tired of finding out the hard way. "Keep back!" Trying to push some confidence into his voice as he flung another at them, he hissed as the last one in his hand bit him. Shaking it off, he opened his briefcase and scooped more of the things into it. They couldn't bite him if they were in there, so hopefully this would work.

Staring at the bite wound on her foot in horror, all Iapetus could think about was how much it ******** hurt and how itchy the skin around the bite felt. At that point, she was all for letting Mr Fancy Suit alone since she didn't want to risk more bites and if he was busy defending himself from starfish, then he wasn’t really up to mischief, right?
That little bit of extended grace came flying back at her in the form of several thrown starfish. One of the things struck her on the chest, near her shoulder and bit down, causing her to scream again as she struggled to pull it away. When she succeeded, finally, she held the awful little ******** in her hand before it seemed to dry out and crumble before her eyes. The rest that had been thrown had thankfully missed latching on, she only had to dance around to dodge them. And now that she knew how ******** terrible they were, she was angry that they’d been used as a weapon against her.
Turning a furiously poisonous look at the officer, Iapetus Darted towards him, only pausing long enough to scoop up an overturned starfish and hurl it back at him.
She was itching, she was hurting and she was now covered in starfish bites. Anyone else might have given up. But Iapetus knew better than to let her wavering focus take the wheel. With a whispered, “Ruthless Touch!”, she summoned her magic and ran through the silvery blob of energy. Within seconds, all thought of itchiness, pain and disgust were pushed away.
With a yell, she leapt at the officer, fist swinging for the softest, squishiest parts she could think of.

As much as he had hoped his plan would work, the look that the senshi gave him made him step back and drop a few of the creatures out of his briefcase and onto the ground. "Ruthless... what? Oh!" All that confidence he'd had a moment ago was so far away as he squeaked. He barely got time to register what was going on before they were on him, and he tried to turn and book it. It wasn't fast enough, no way in hell was he fast enough for these crazy senshi, and he really was starting to consider maybe asking if Lavendulan would start tagging along with him if it was going to keep ending up like this. Trying to block what he could with his briefcase, he kept taking steps back and hoping she'd tire out long enough for him to turn and run for the hills without worrying about getting downed in the process.

Punching and kicking, Iapetus snarled as the majority of her blows were blocked by a damned briefcase. How was she supposed to turn this little weasel into paste if he kept managing to avoid the worst of her blows? Amidst her rage, she noticed when her magic began to wear off. Little side thoughts and musings began to creep back in and her single focus on KILL was opening up and letting her see other possibilities.
Such as the one just off to the side. The starfish were still swarming and all it would take was one little push to send the officer into them. Let him be bitten a few times! Maybe then he’d learn to not throw goddamned weird animals at people!
Surging forward, she aimed a new flurry of hits at his head and chest, wanting him as off balance as possible. Only then did she sweep out with a leg. Not to kick, precisely, but to hook his knee and pull him off of his feet.

Okenite's hands felt like they were going numb from the recoil of trying to keep his briefcase between him and those punches. This was probably the worst experience so far, and he hadn't thought it could get this bad compared to the magic from before. Stumbling as the hits moved higher and higher, he felt his knee buckle and the whole world shifted. Instinct had him pulling his arms to cover his head, even as those disgusting starfish decided to start trying to bite through his suit. "Stop! Stop!" It was more of a whine this time as he laid there, still half stunned from the fall and very much hurting from it and those damn things.

Standing over the fallen officer, Iapetus realized that she was dealing with the human equivalent of wet tissue paper. There was no glorious victory or honor here. Just a whiny little man who's soul seemed to be trying its hardest to vacate its earthly shell. And sooner, rather than later, the starfish would get to his face because he simply wasn't doing anything but laying there and crying.
"Oh for ******** sake," she growled, kicking away an investigative starfish before bending over to seize the man's lapel's in one hand, bunching the material tightly within her fist and lifting up. Once she had him upright, she gave him a hard shake.
"Oh my god,' she hissed. "Grow a pair and stop whining. Have some self respect!"
Perhaps not the most comforting or inspiring of speeches, but honestly, Iapetus knew that she wasn't petty or mean enough to enjoy the officer's predicament. She was, however, extremely fond of being the obviously bigger person, so this was like catnip to her soul. Giving the man another hard shake to get his attention, she made sure to speak slowly and with just enough underlying threat to worm past his snuffling.
"I am going to let you go in about two shakes. If you fail to stand on your own damn two feet and sashay your a** out of here before the starfish eat you, I will not be responsible. You got one save, that's it. Nod once if you understand."

Scrambling his legs as they grabbed him, that didn't last long as they gave him a shake. God, why were all these senshi so strong, and pretty much all insane and ready to start a fight? Hesitantly, he looked at her and tried to be quiet as they shook him again. Why did they all have to be like this? he was just doing his job; it wasn't like he was hurting people or starting fights. Focusing on the slow words, Okenite chanced a glance down to make sure he could take the opportunity to bolt that he'd been trying to take for almost this entire encounter. Self-respect? Staying alive and away from these crazies didn't have anything to do with that, and running was something he was good at anyway. Once they finished their little speech, he nodded while still looking down at the starfish below. They really were such disgusting things, and it made him glad that when he powered down, all the chewed holes in his suit wouldn't carry over to his normal clothes.

Jaw clenching as a starfish bit her ankle, Iapetus didn’t move for a moment. She was busy dealing with Wet Tissue Man and couldn’t allow herself to be distracted. Even if she wanted to yell and tear the thing from her flesh. The itchiness of all the bites was nearly unbearable now and the pain from the bites themselves made her want to howl.
But first. The officer.
With a sigh, she carefully lowered the guy so his feet could touch the ground. Then, in spite of her words to the contrary, she relaxed her hand slowly, ready to haul him up again if he went all Fainting Southern Belle on her. When it seemed like he might not fold like a cheap table, she took a step back, maintaining eye contact even as she lifted her leg up to get at the starfish on her ankle, ripping it off and crushing it in her hand.
“Better run before they eatcha, little b***h boy,” she murmured. If she guessed right, he wasn’t the type to try and get in a sneaky hit. The way he’d cried and whined made her certain that he’d take his opportunity to run and run far. She’d just wait until she was sure he was gone before heading away herself.
