When the Fire Works (14) : Innovation is expected in Destiny City, so seasonal commodities are always expected to sell well. This year, the hot new summer item includes some chemically enhanced logs: carefully modified with environmental and health-safe chemicals, these logs are guaranteed to burn bright, burn long, and burn beautifully. It’s not just a pretty flame: each individual log has several rings that will light up like a sparkler when the flame hits. Larger logs will even pop off small, colorful fireworks for several hours while they burn. Though the lightshow is beautiful, it’s also calm. The logs have a pleasant, earthy smell, and unlike the sounds of normal fireworks, these simply sound like a crackling fire. There’s something curiously nostalgic about these fires; they are able to elicit a sort of childlike whimsy, if only you let them. If not, it’s still pretty.

Sable WC: 636
Sable had invited Sade for a cook out and camp fire. She'd rented a cabin in one of the more remote parks that had a camp ground with all the amenities including a fire pit.
Sable had grilled the burgers and hot dogs. She'd also fixed fries from scratch along with all the fixings. She'd just told her sister to bring the drinks and items for s'mores.
It'd been a while since either of them had taken a solid weekend off and since it was promising to be such a nice weekend she'd wanted to do something fun for the two of them.
Sade had loaded up on the camping snacks. Things for s'mores, some gummy worms, chips, popcorn. She also picked up bottles of lemonade, tea and soda. She knew her sister so she also grabbed a fruit platter that included apples, grapes and melon. She made sure there were cups of dippable chocolate, peanut butter and caramel.
Sade also brought a small turn table and some records, she wanted to make sure they had music. She'd gotten her guitar too but she wasn't the best at playing an actual instrument. It was just something their dad had done when they were around a campfire so it felt weird if she didn't bring it.
She knew Sable would have the scary camp fire stories so she was glad when she got up to the cabin to smell the food that was cooking. "Awww yeah. What's up sis?"
Sable's eyes shifted as she was finishing up the last of the burgers, of course Sade brought her van. Logo blazoned on the side for the alter ego of the DJ. "You didn't need the van sis, we've got a whole cabin. You don't have to pretend you're camping out on the road."
She chuckled when Sade made a face at her, "Do you want to eat outside at the picnic table or eat inside? There's a small breakfast nook with the kitchenette that's inside."
Sable paused but continued, "The stuff to put on the burgers and dogs happen to be inside right now so we'd need to bring that out along with the plates."
"You said we were camping so outside of course!" Sade responded, "Also I brought the van because you never know what you need when camping out. So I have some emergency supplies."
There was a wink as she sat down some of the stuff she'd brought. "I'll go wash my hands and start bringing out the rest of the food. Are mom and dad coming?" She asked curiously.
"Both of them are on some sort of business trip." Sable responded. It'd been nice if they had made time to come for the weekend but alas it was fine, just the two of them worked well.
"What kind of emergency supplies do you have?" Sable prodded before her sister disappeared into the cabin.
When Sade reappeared she had her hands full of the things that they needed for the burgers, a second trip was still called for but she'd gotten most of it.
"Some really cool firewood they said it sparkles and the larger ones have small fire works in them. I don't know all the details but just wait it'll be awesome for the camp fire!"
Sade returned to the cabin for the rest of the supplies and then went to the van to grab the drinks and cups. "I didn't know what you were in the mood for but there should be enough of everything for the whole weekend."
Sable was looking still dumbfounded at the information about the fire logs. "Are they safe for being out the in woods? Isn't this something we should test at home?"
Though since the food was done she wasn't going to protest a ton on an empty stomach. She fixed herself a burger and hot dog along with pouring herself some of the lemonade that Sade had brought, "What else did you bring in that van of yours?"
She was curious as she had a feeling that Sade couldn't leave work behind but at the same time, at least it wasn't the other job. She could handle the DJ part while on vacation.
"Well, I got the guitar and a portable turntable with some records that seemed appropriate for camping. You know I can't play the guitar as well as dad can." She said softly.
"Then of course more blankets, pillows, the air mattresses in case the cabin's beds are super stiff." There was a chuckle, "I guess I'm a bit over prepared but most of it stays in the van anyways just in case. So it could be worse."
Sade shrugged softly as she fixed herself two hamburgers, "When did you learn to grill? That's usually dad's thing."
"When he wasn't always here to bother to get him to grill. Him and mom are off on trips so often we can't just rely on him to grill us food anymore." The pair sat talking for a while until they'd had their fill. Sable started cleaning off the table and picking up the dishes, "There is a TV but it seems to only get a few stations."
She added as her sister helped her clear everything off.
"That's fine, you're the story teller, I'm the musician we should be able to entertain ourselves. Ohhh, I also brought the video game system but you said there were paddle boats and fishing?" Sade mentioned.
With everything put away she pulled out the logs for the fire. There were a couple of them, some small and a few that were really nice sized ones. "The larger ones are suppose to have the fireworks. I got enough for the whole weekend." She added as she sat them down and started a small area for the fire adding the fun logs on top of the pile.
"Why do I feel like you're the only one that cares about these crazy logs?" Sable asked as she watched Sade work. She had prepped though the s'mores tray and made sure they had decent sticks for roasting marshmallows.
"I hope it doesn't cause our marshmallows to burn though if they have sparklers and what not in them." She liked her marshmallows lightly roasted which she knew Sade sometimes loved hers burnt.
"No worries!! They said it was safe and that the fireworks weren't that crazy." It didn't take Sade long to have the fire going. it was a nice fire as they sat around it roasting marshmallows and when the fire hit the areas on the logs it was something to watch them burn.
When they were finished with the s'mores and fruit, Sade pulled out the guitar and started playing music for the campfire.
"So you want a story then?" Sable asked after a little while of listening to the music and watching the fireworks show. Sade nodded her head, "Alright you play the sound track while I tell a story then."
The sisters spent the night swapping stories or songs, until the fire was out then they turned in for the night after everything was cleaned up.
As Sade was turning in she found under her pillow a star shaped charm, it was sapphire in color. She took it and smiled as she laid down for a nights sleep.
As Sable put her earrings on the dresser she adjusted a little fuchsia star charm on the desk making sure it was sitting perfectly with her earrings. She then laid down and stretched out for a good night's sleep.
