2025 Star Festival Prompt
The Wishing Tree (2): Your wish is only said to come true if you grant the wish of someone else; when you write your wish, you must also take one off of the tree and do your best to grant it. What wish do you pull off, and how do you intend to 'grant' it? Do you work with someone else to grant this wish, or do you work alone? You may get approval from another player to use the wish their character hung up, but no names are attached so your character may not ever know who wrote it!
Why did he pick this wish again?
Oh. Right. Because it seemed manageable and doable.
What Jackson forgot about was just how big the park was and how hot it was going to be, and he had underestimated just how hard people seemed to find it to throw trash away when there was a garbage can every 30 or something feet. Also... what the heck was with all of the trash that was on the ground, right next to the garbage cans? Jackson was losing faith in humanity with every piece of trash he picked up.
Well... he was too stubborn to back out now.
He had specifically cleared his calendar for the day in order to complete the wish that he had picked up from the wishing tree. "I wish there was less trash in the parks." It was a small miracle that the musician had dragged himself out of bed at six thirty in the morning, considering that he had more or less structured his daily schedule to ensure that he never had to get out of bed before eight thirty and that was only if he wanted to actually care about what he looked like before dragging himself to class. Usually, he got up at nine, threw a shirt, pants, and his hoodie on and walked out the door without even eating breakfast.
This morning he had gotten up early, and had dressed for the weather, donning a white t-shirt and a pair of black cargo shorts instead of his usually all black attire. He didn't bother with combing his hair or showering because one, he took his showers at night after he got home from whatever he was doing that day, and why should he care about what he looked like when picking up trash. Not that he was one to care about what he looked like ever except in very specific situations.
Once dressed, he head to the park, put his ear phones in so he could listen to music on his phone, and set to work starting from the north end and working his way east to west across the park with a small garbage bag.
The other reason he started this early was to avoid the heat. He was able to get through a good third of the park before the sun really came up over the trees and the work wasn't really that bad. By noon, he had done another third of the park and took a break to eat a lunch he packed and drink about tow bottles of water. Then the home stretch and in another couple of hours, he had two full bags of garbage and was done.
He didn't really want to think about if any trash had accumulated by people behind him. Hopefully, they anyone who would usualy litter had seen him working hard to pick up the trash and had properly tossed it in the bin, but Jackson doubted it. There was less trash in the park though. He had accomplished whomever's wish and he drank another bottle of water and threw the bags of garbage in a nearby dumpster before planting the piece of paper near the pond so it could grow.
As he dug, he found a sapphire star charm. Weird how these things just kept turning up. He took is as a reward for a good days work, pocketed it, and headed home.
