The Wishing Tree (2) : Your wish is only said to come true if you grant the wish of someone else; when you write your wish, you must also take one off of the tree and do your best to grant it. What wish do you pull off, and how do you intend to ‘grant' it? Do you work with someone else to grant this wish, or do you work alone? You may get approval from another player to use the wish their character hung up, but no names are attached so your character may not ever know who wrote it!

There were entirely too many people still out by the Wishing Tree as far as Cuan was concerned. After dark and people still milled about, putting up their own wishes while taking someone else’s! Ridiculous! How was she supposed to take a wish if the tree was surrounded?

Tail lashing the air angrily, the kitten clung to the shadows and considered her options. She’d badly wanted to try her paw at wish granting this year. She just didn’t want anyone to see her doing it. Which was entirely reasonable. Climbing the trunk of the tree was an option, certainly. But not the best one to her mind. Climbing something that big would take time and it would be so easy for someone to see her and grab her. Even in the dark.

Oh, what to do, what to do… The little lykoi found herself watching the people around the tree, reaching up to hang their wishes from the laden branches. An idea was beginning to percolate within her brain and she gave it serious consideration. She was fairly fast. And she was nimble. Hrmm. Creeping closer, she set her eyes on a wishing paper that hung just a smidge lower than the others. If she ran and jumped, using the literal heads and shoulders of the people still hanging about… Yes, she thought. It could work. But she’d have to time things very carefully. Because once she got jumping, someone was bound to be startled and run off like a goose screaming. She had to make sure that her main jump would be before that happened.

“Well,” she whispered to herself, “no time like the present to begin.”

Feeling thus fortified by her self pep talk, Cuan leapt, quite literally, into action. Racing towards the tree, she kept her eyes on the dangling paper she wanted. THen, she jumped, landing on someone's shoulder, leaping again until she bounced off of a balding head, and then one last leap put her on another person’s head. Perhaps fortunately, her antics had indeed caused some alarm, but her current perch seemed a little slower on the uptake and didn’t immediately startle. Then gave her a few precious extra seconds to gather herself and leap for the tree, catching the paper between her teeth and tearing it from the branch with a jerk of her head as she arced in the air and landed back on the grass.

Then, she ran, paper trailing behind her.

Once she was safely hidden in some bushes, she chuckled a little as some of the people ran around, trying to figure out what had just happened. But, as nothing else happened, they gradually calmed down. Good enough, she thought as she set a paw on the paper she’d taken and read. The writing was shaky, but the wish was sincere. All they wanted was a little more beauty in the world. Lacking thumbs, Cuan couldn't exactly go out and create an impromptu art exhibit. But, she did know where a great many wildflowers grew that were in need of some pruning back. There was no reason why she couldn’t conscript Saiph to help her gather blossoms and arrange them around the tree.

Yes, that was what she’d do. Good for the wildflowers and good for whomever had made this wish. She’d head home and talk to Saiph about her idea. Carefully rolling the wish paper up so that she could carry it more easily, Cuan set off. As she slipped from the park, she caught sight of a scattering of star charms on the ground. Well, someone had been a bit clumsy, she thought. But that didn’t stop her from pausing long enough to take a violet charm. These things were meant for everyone, after all. And since she was going to be granting a wish, she had as much right to a charm as any human.
