The Calling (10) : A beautiful melody drifts on the air from somewhere far away. The vocals are in a language you don't quite recognize, but feel somehow familiar to you. Something about the song calls to you, but no matter where you go, the song seems to sound the same distance away. The longer it goes on, the more emotional the song becomes--and the more emotional you become. Something about the song is possessive and consuming, like it's all you can think of. Something resonates in you as the song crescendos, and the feeling is at its strongest--be they good, bad, anything, but suddenly the song fades, and there's only an emptiness inside of you. The feeling of loss is strong, and can leave someone feeling emotionally numb. Someone out there was calling to you, and you couldn't find them.

Being on this strange planet that was similar yet not to her own, was nothing short of eye opening. She missed her planet, but wasn't comfortable going back just yet [what if she couldn't make it back to Earth?], which meant she was constantly getting homesick with no way to quell it. Kasi sighed while wandering through the forest, squatting down to pick up a very interesting looking stick that had some sort of moss on it, picking a bit off to put in her mouth. The taste was...weird at best, and probably something she shouldn't try to eat again. That wouldn't stop her from putting it in her room though, it seemed like the moss would be soft enough to lay on and she could add it to her bed like she used to do at home.

Even though her race was pretty advanced [she knew what a bed was, they had mattresses], she could see many of her people adding sticks, leaves, flowers, and many other things to their personal rooms. Moss was her favorite because of the softness and the smell of it. Back home, it smelled like the equivalent of lavender here on Earth. It was calming and soothing, something she was sorely missing here. As she walked along, picking up whatever she could and tasting it for flavor, Kasi picked up something interesting sounding along the air. It was...Sweet, enticing, and magical. As if she were being called, Kasi slowly wandered in the direction she was hearing the sound, the need to mimic becoming stronger the more she heard it.

Soon enough, she was trilling, feeling the song resonating within her down to the core. It didn't take long for her to pick up the tone of the song, letting out a series of musical chirps and high notes to let this being know that yes! She was listening! Trying to heed the call! But where? Why couldn't she find the source?! Her steps began to pick up in pace till she was outright running, tripping over herself to get to what could only be a being that was just as lonely and lost as her. She paused mid-step, pulling out a pretty flower from her bag in offering, "H-Here! Please come! I...I have a pretty. O-Offer yes?" She stood there for what felt like an eternity, but the being wouldn't show itself.

Kasi let out a soft trill, trying once more while starting to walk again, maybe she just wasn't close enough? Okay! She could get closer! Starting her melody once more, Kasi continued forward, deeper into the forest than she should have been. But that wasn't important right now, someone needed her and she had to make it otherwise... She didn't know what, but the feeling that it would be devastating spurred her on, till she had to stop once more to catch her beath. The song increased in it's intensity, trying to urge her on but she didn't know what to do! She was trying to reach them and they wouldn't come out of hiding!

Holding out her offering once more, Kasi tried again, "P-Please....Pretty..." When the being kept singing but didn't show itself, Kasi began to sniffle. What did they want? How could she get them to show?! Soon enough, the song grew in pitch and intensity one last time as if the being was trying to scream at her that she was close! That she only needed to go just a little bit farther! Kasi picked herself up on shaking legs, trying to push herself forwards once more. This time she would find them, take them back with her, and show one of the Bells that she had made a dear friend that was in need. A shaky smile appeared on her face, the hope giving her a renewal of energy.

But then...It stopped.

A confused chirp was all Kasi could manage, turning this way and that to find the sound, to see or even hear which direction it was. A soft trill was released to entice the singer back, but silence was all that returned. Unable to comprehend, Kasi's hand went to her chest as if she were struck, gasping for air while the tears poured down her face. Did she do something wrong? Was the being killed?! The thought caused her legs to give way, sending her to her knees while she tried to regulate her breathing. How could she fail again?! Was it not enough that she couldn't save her people, but she had to go through the same feeling of loss on Earth too?!

The sounds of her people shouting and dying around her was all she could hear now as her world shriveled, the energy sapped and corrupted, her people turning into mindless creatures that knew nothing but hunger and greed. Kasi could see the floating islands, once beautiful and so very bright, turning to ash and dust. The library, once a beacon of joy and accomplishment, blowing out smoke as it was set on fire. All of the discoveries of species and planets will now be lost to time, unable to be recovered. Kasi covered her mouth as she weeped, squeezing her eyes shut to block out all the screams, pleas, and guilt that was forced on her. She should have died with her people that loved her so so much instead of surviving, coming to Earth, getting attacked, and failing at her duty as a senshi.

Her people deserved better and so did the being that sung out their plea.

A small, lonely melody came from her lips while she cried, trying to call back the being once more.

"N-Not...Fair...C-Come back...Please."

When silence met her plea, her sobs grew till all she could do was wail out her sorrow into the vast silence of the forest. It seems like no matter what, she would always have to face her failures and know that somehow, maybe she could have done better. Instead, she had to live with the fact that she did nothing as her inner council shoved her in a pod as her planet and their people died around her. She couldn't save them, just like she couldn't save the being that called out to her earlier.

Always and forever a failure.
