He wondered what had happened to his mate to bring her back to port so soon. She had been having many grand adventures in between them trying to add new leaves to the ol' family tree.
There was a suspicious pile of clothes in the entryway which usually happened after she was back from a long sail and was beelining for the bathroom.
"Kechi? Are you okay?" He called toward the bathing chamber. He was worried because she had been expecting to be at sea for quite a bit longer. "Did something happen?" He hoped that her brother who had been going with her while Raol took some land based jobs. He preferred to accompany her himself of course but with babies hopefully soon he had thought the extra coin in the coffer worth the occasional job done individually.
He leaned against the door hoping for a noise that would help him discern what the issue had been. There would likely be no use until she answered him though.

She shuddered in the bathroom, bringing up what she had eaten earlier in the most unpleasant of ways. She moaned theatrically. She opened the door and hung onto the door frame for dear life.
"I got seasick Raolvar...I DONT get seasick." It had not been a fun return journey and one of the few voyages she had been unable to complete. Her new crew was carefully chosen but it would be hard to expect respect from seasoned sailors when their captain was hurling over the rail about every 15 minutes until she had brought up all the contents of her stomach. She had been dehydrated and cranky as a consequence. The crew had delivered her unto her husband post haste. No one enjoyed her tongue which resembled a cat o nine tails according to some more imaginitive crew members. She was a fair captiain but her wrath could be stunning if it was deserved.
She did not deserve the seasickness and they had done their best. She was grateful and still had all the reins thankfully. She hoped this was a temporary malady.

She really did look awful. His poor mate! How hard that would be for her with her pride in her job. "I'm sorry that happened my love." It was true he had never heard of her being seasick before. She was the captain she had to run things. He brought her a glass of water. Which should at least stay down now.
He thought a moment and paused...and shook his head. No, it couldn't be..not so soon...could it? He tilted his head and stared at her, but for the moment kept his barely a suspicion to himself. Maybe they had had bad food, she often had her own store of stuff that was separate from the crew..hmm.
Oh well they would figure it out. Perhaps he could not completely hide his suspicion though as he saw the same realization dawn on Kechiri's face the look of shock and awe unmistakable. A pivotal point in your life. Forever changed come what may. He took a deep breath. Here we go again. He was ready, so ready for this wonderful thing. His grin dawned like sun on sand.

She straightened and looked at her mate... "You don't think..." She paused. Dare she name her suspicion. They had been trying hard for quite a while. Which had been the best time in her life. The older she got the more fulfilled she felt.
"Hmm, it could be actually! "Raol I think I may be pregnant! She held the base of her stomach. Perhaps there was suspiciously more of a bump there than there should be. "Yes!" She didn't need to go see a healer, she knew that that was what this was deep in her bones.
She snatched at his hand and held it to her stomach too. "I think we succeeded. That would explain the seasickness, it wasn't seasickness at all!" A part of her now felt smug. She wasn't a land lubber after all. She was also so excited she wasn't sure what to do next. Her only son was going to get a sibling!
She flung her arms around her mates neck. "Rao! We did it!" She had wanted so badly to be a mother again. Now it seemed that their wish had come true. "I can't wait to tell everyone!" She was lost in her joy.

He loved watching her change over the coming months heavy with his child, glowing bright like a star and most magnificent while riled. She was as ever a force to be reckoned with. Their son was attentive to his mother during this difficult phase. Soon though, really any day she would likely go into labor. She didn't seem as nervous but this pregnancy too had had its quirks. This one liked lobster of all things and carrots. This part of the deal always amused Raolvar. But he could tell that Kechiri was ready to be done with the pains of pregnancy. Though she was awfully cute when she wobbled around.
A squawk alerted him that something was off. "Kechi? You okay? What's up?"
He turned to look at the shocked look on her face. Uh oh. Here it came. That would be the water breaking. It was go time! He got the baby bag and made sure everything was organized. She was determined to have this baby at home, unless she really needed the healer. He supported her decision mostly because there were healers near by if anything went wrong.

Yes indeed she was ready for the nonsense to be over, to greet her baby as they looked at the world for the first time. But most births were not pleasant per say, though it was different for every woman. Her last one had been awful, this one though she was hopeful would go better. She would give birth at home if all things went well, with Raolvar by her side. Vhallas was happily away, it was best he not see this sort of thing until he was ready. She sniggered a little. It was going to be a long night and morning but the surprise that she had been making for them was soon to be born.
The hours seemed to drag on and the contractions started and got closer together. Raolvar helped her through every phase, calmly doing what he could to ease her discomfort and keep her calm. She may have yelled a few times, he just kissed her and said that he knew. He would do better next time. She couldn't even get that mad but heck it hurt near the end. Then she had to bear down and just flow through it. She pushed when it felt right and shaking got the job done..except her body wasn't done...two babies! No wonder why she had been so big. Their healer had been holding out on them.

Soon enough they were basking in the spicey afterglow. It had gone smoothly despite there being TWO babies. He was so blessed by the gods. Thank Zauru the iceling god of tides for granting his wife safe harbor. She was his home as much as anything and while birth was quite graphic, it had been so worth it to get to hold his children for the first time. He wrapped them in their specially made blankets, Zuella had done them the honor of crafting some of her special blankets for this. She had had to tell him to sit down at one point or he would have keeled over. He had made sure she was resting easy and that she got to hold each child after he had cleaned them up just a little bit. They were heavy bundles of fabric now with just little squishy crying faces looking up at him. He was swamped by memories of the last session and crawled onto the fresh bed with her to admire them.
"They start out so small. Vhallas was massive in comparison."

She took deep breaths feeling much relieved after an eventful labor. She ached she was sore but she would recover soon enough and they had new little faces to add to the family roster. By the gods they had done it. She was going to make them little menehune necklaces at some point as that was where the thought of her two little miracles came into being. She knew these kids were so special, she could just feel it.
"Raolvar have you some names picked out?" She asked curiously. Sometimes it took no time at all to come up with a good name, other times it took much longer. She had a few she had been saving. But it was sometimes better to get a hold on personality too before committing to anything. She was more of a spontaneous person and hadn't arrived at anything spectacular yet, she figured they would work it out in the time after while they bonded and recovered in her case. At least she hadn't needed the healer this time it helped that both babies happened to be smaller.

He couldn't stop looking into the eyes of his new children. They were so precious and he had all of these emotions welling up and it brought back memories of Vhallas's birth too. Though Kechiri was doing much better after this one than that one thankfully. He just paused to contemplate the miracle of life that was birth as scary as it could be. He was proud that he was able to support Kechiri through this, something he personally probably wouldn't survive. She was so very strong he was pleased, she would give that superstrength to their children, Vhallas got a double dose of his parent's adventurous spirit and Raol figured that these two beauties would be the same.
"Uh names, right well, I had been contemplating a few but none really stand out we might have to wait a while for the ideas to strike us this time." She and he had figured out Vhallas's name relatively quickly.

She held one of her children and had one of those special new mother moments where everything else in the world ceased to exist, she was captivated by a powerful little gaze and she could not be more in love. "This one will have a strong personality I think, just like your mama huh little one?" She rubbed her nose gently against her babies's nose.
She took a deep breath, happy to just be again. Birth was no hecking joke that was for sure, a veritable marathon with a painful finish but just like anything else that really took time, it was so worth it. She was so happy and relieved.
Her recovery went really well and they enjoyed those special moments with each other and their newborns she hadn't realized you could miss the sound of crying, well at least the little new baby wails that were more raspy squeaks than anything substantial, that would come later.

The babies were in their cradles sleeping and Vhallas was away on some sort of quest he had said. Raolvar joined Kechiri in the study where she was enjoying one of her books. Oddly enough it was about gardening and not a historical type romance. He curled himself around her where she lay and laid his head over hers, huh composting basics. That was interesting.
"Why the sudden change in reading material my love?" He was genuinely curious as she did not often change it up from her staple mush novels. She at home was a creature of distinct habit. When they were traveling she was a lot more free flowing and spontaneous. He wondered if she would loosen up over time at home, probably not now that they had twins though, not for a while at least. By the time the kids were 7 and a little more independant maybe was his expert prediction. No one knew Kechi like he did. He was the only one that she didn't eventually tire of, besides Vhallas.

"Oh you know." She put the book down and kissed him. "Figuring I might try to fix my black thumb while the kids are young so I can teach them how to grow food. A person should know how to grow basic food, even if its just pumpkins you know. She smiled and got her makeup pouch out.
She contented herself with painting him as a male version of herself. He put up with the makeup as she made sure that it looked more warrior than lady. She was amused that he still put up with her crazy ideas. She had to admit he looked really really good for a dad, probably why she had another batch of kids. She was amused with her inner thoughts.
"There, all done, a proper pirate king for your pirate queen." She patted his cheek and kissed him. That had been so much fun. She couldn't help but grin at how sexy he looked. It was too early for hijinks so she settled for teasing him instead.

Thunder rumbled outside and he sighed, resigned to looking like a book character. So much for the compost inspiration, though he was perhaps grateful that she didn't want to compost him. He snorted and ignored her request to know what had made him laugh.
"Never you mind wench, and teasing at this point in the game is so unkind, you know you are still healing don't start." He tickled her gently so as not to make her squirm too hard. "Saucy wench, what if you got knocked up again so soon, thats a lot of diaper changes." He wouldn't mind but it was a bit hard on the body especially with this set of kiddles so young. He would preserve her from herself.
"No no, best you have your tea and go to bed." He smiled and stroked her hair affectionately. "You are obviously too tired to have good judgement."

"Hmm, a storm is rolling in. What say we take our tea on the porch so we can really enjoy it huh?" She purred. She got up to set the kettle going and made the tea, then they went together to watch the storm and the waves. The loud pouding and roiling gray water amused them both with its power and angry looking surf.
"Glad I'm back home and not in the middle of that, as hard as childbirth is that looks pretty darn nasty," she concured with an expert opinion. Reading a storm and navigation were the most important jobs of a captain and she made sure that her skills there were always, always top notch. As that of all things would get her home where other things could not.
She sipped her tea and contemplated the last few years. "I'm glad nothing ever came of my job and worrying about our kids, if Vhallas was okay these ones will be too." It always was a sub shadow in her thoughts that the best way to her was through her children.

"Never you worry about that, if something did come up the family would converge around you, what happened to Elaxi will never come to pass again, our children will be safe and your sister is starting to get better I think." That kind of trauma during childhood could be problematic and Elaxi was so loved here.
However the fear Kechi held was deep, her sis had been gone for so many years and her mother wore the scars of a terrible struggle. Sae had barely survived the knife wounds but she had ridden to the ranch until she couldn't and the critter took her the rest of the way. A weaker, less stubborn woman would have died. "Im sure these little monsters will grow up to be just as terrifying as their mother and just as powerful."
He clinked his tea mug with hers, bringing her wandering mind back to the present roily storm and strong delicious tea. Tea fixed all wounds with enough time. He wondered if her worry was associated with the birth, it hadn't been all that long since that day.
