Brian's SNAG would begin to vibrate and then beep, notifying him that a message was received. The message would be from Sub and read the following; Sub Hey Brian! Would you come see me in my office before the end of the day? I have something I want to talk to you about. If Brian did as instructed and went off to Sub's office he would find the door closed. If he knocked on the door it would slowly open up and he would be greeted by a stern looking Bisharp, Sub's Pokemon Allan, staring him down. "It's okay, I was expecting him. Come in, Brian." Sub would call out from behind Allan, the Pokemon stepping off to the side and standing at attention, shutting the door behind Brian as he entered. "Please, have a seat." Sub said to his fellow Snagem, gesturing towards the chair on the other side of his desk. "Let's cut the chase and get right to the topic at hand." The Snagem leader said as he leaned back in his chair and looked up at the ceiling. "Tell me, Brian, have you ever noticed anything...strange...about yourself? Maybe when you're around certain Pokemon?"

Brian was sitting in his quarters when his SNAG buzzed and beeped. Huh, he didn't usually get messages. Who was this one from? Taking a look, he saw it was from Sub. What could he need to talk about? Figuring it was better to take care of it now rather than later, he got up off his bed and walked to Sub's office. Finding the door closed, he knocked, and when the door opened, he started to enter, stopping short as he saw Allan, Sub's Bisharp, staring him down. What was going on?
He heard Sub's voice beckoning him to enter, and he took a seat across from the Snagem leader. The questions caught him off guard, but as he really thought about it, he realized there was something he'd noticed. "I mean, I've noticed that Lu and I seem to have a better connection than most of my other Pokemon, but that could be because she was my starter," he said. "However, I've also noticed that I seem to have more of an... affinity for Fighting-types than I do other types. I'm not really sure how to describe it."

"Yes, the two of you most certainly do have a stronger connection, but it's not because she was your starter." Sub replied as he sat up straight in the chair again, now looking Brian in the eyes. "Might come off a bit invasive but I've had GRAY do some scans on you, especially when you're out in the field and active alongside your Pokemon. I apologize if you take umbrage with me doing this without your consent. That said I can say now with the upmost certainty that there is a reason you feel like you have an affinity for Fighting type Pokemon more so than others, simply because you in fact do." The man said, now leaning forward and resting his arms on the desk in front of him.
"All living beings have an energy or chi signature, a sort of field that put out. Some might call it their soul or essence, but whatever you call it everything alive has one, including some inanimate things. Humans normally have something akin to Normal type Pokemon, that is to say basic, plain, without characteristic. Every now and then you stumble upon humans who have something...more, something different. Their chi signature looks closer to something you would see in a Pokemon. These humans, should they choose to, are highly capable of establishing powerful bonds with Pokemon of the type they are aligned with, we call these humans Channelers if they awaken this ability. For example I possess a chi signature that aligns with the Dark type, as such I am highly resistant to mental intrusion and I can, and used to, Channel with Dark type Pokemon." Sub explained, rubbing the finger which used to hold his artifact.
"You on the other hand have a chi signature aligned with the Fighting type. What I'm trying to say is you have the capability to become a Fighting Channeler, to form a more powerful bond with your Fighting type Pokemon and through them unlock untold powers and abilities, together." He explained for Brian.

Brian was surprised to hear that Sub said his bond with Lu wasn't because of the fact she was his starter. The fact Sub had asked GRAY to do scans on him, especially out in the field, was a little startling, given he'd had no idea, but he supposed that was part of the reason behind it. He knew there were people that could form powerful bonds with specific types of Pokemon, but hearing that he, too, had the potential to do so was shocking. Hearing that Sub used to Channel, as well, made him wonder what had happened to make him stop Channeling, but didn't ask.
"Honestly, I'm surprised to hear that I have the potential to become a Channeler," he said. "Is the ability to Channel a genetic thing?" That would be interesting if it was, and it would give him a reason to finally look into his family history.

"Kinda? It's not really all that well understood to be honest but some individuals do seem to be more naturally inclined towards a certain type as well as other individuals in their family, all of the same type. So as far as I can say there does seem to be a genetic component to it all." Sub answered Brian, being honest with what he did and didn't know about Channeling. "Now, with that said potential is nothing without training. Without training there can be no realization of your gifts. And to obtain that training you'll need a teacher." He said with a grin leaning back and away from the desk away.
"Tell me, Brian, are you familiar with Iron Island in the Sinnoh region?" He asked the Fighting Channeler-to-be.

Brian nodded a bit when Sub confirmed that there did seem to be a genetic component when it came to Channelers. That did make sense. However, that also begged the question: who in his family were Channelers, and why had they stopped Channeling, if indeed that was the case? His thoughts were interrupted by Sub's next comment, and the following question. "I've heard of it, but I've never actually been there," he said. "All I know about it is that a lot of Steel-types can be found there, hence the name."

"Yeah, you'll find your fair share of Steel types on the island but that's not all there is to find on it. And I'm not talking about all the iron ore and the mining activity that comes with that." Sub began to explain before turning his computer screen around to show Brian a picture of a man in a blue suit and hat. "His name is Riley, he calls Iron Island his home and training ground, in fact he owns the mineral rights to the island and thus the entire mining operation. Dude is rich. However that is not why I'm showing you him and talking about him. Riley you see is also a talented trainer, one of Sinnoh's best, on par with some of the Elites. He's also a Fighting Channeler, specifically in the ways of Aura. As was his father and his father before him." Sub explained to Brian.

Brian wasn't surprised when Sub confirmed what he'd heard, but he hadn't known about the mining operation, or that it was all owned by one man. How rich was this man? Wait, Riley? Why was that name familiar? Where had he heard of the man before? Before he could ponder more on it, Sub was explaining that Riley was a Fighting Channeler, one that was on par with the Elites. If he was that strong, then perhaps... Wait, he could see where this was going. "Aura, huh?" he echoed, rubbing his chin thoughtfully. "And I'm guessing ye want me to travel to Iron Island to learn from Riley?" That would make the most sense as to why Sub was telling him all this.

"Precisely." Sub said, turning the monitor back around towards himself before turning his attention back to Brian. "I have already made arrangements with Riley to receive you as a student. That is if you so choose to accept the invitation. If you do you'll be spending at least a week on Iron Island, accommodations provided, learning from Riley. It will be a kind of trial situation, that is at the end of the week he'll decide if you're suited for furthering your latent Fighting Channeling abilities." The man explained. "So, with all that said, the final decision is yours. You have until the end of today to make a decision. If you choose to go you already have a boat ticket bought and paid for to leave from Canalave City to Iron Island in Sinnoh, it leaves tomorrow morning. So, what do you say?"

Brian wasn't surprised when Sub confirmed his curiosity. So, the Snagem leader had already thought everything out, then. That made it easier, but now the question was, should he take the offer? If Sub was right, and he had the capability to connect more strongly with Fighting-types and become a Channeler, then he would be a fool to say no. However, at the same time, he had no idea how long it would take to learn Channeling abilities, how long he would be away from Snagem. In the end, the choice was clear. Amber could hate him later, right now, he had to think about himself for once. "I'll go," he said. "If ye're right about me having the potential to become a Channeler, I'll need someone to teach me how. I just hope I'm able to impress Riley enough that he'll agree to teach me longer than a week."

"Marvelous!" Sub happily declared as he threw open the top most drawer on the right side of his desk and gingerly removed a piece of paper from it with just his index finger and his thumb, carefully carrying it up into the air and over the desk before suddenly slamming it down on the desk in front of Brian. His grin never once faded. "Here you go! Your ticket for a two way boat ride to and from Iron Island, you decide if you take the second ride back though. Or Riley does I should say...gotta impress him, right?" He chuckled to himself before slowly and carefully pushing his drawer back in.
"Like I said earlier, the boat leaves tomorrow morning. Just report to the dock mentioned on that ticket before sailing time. Find the ship called the S.S. Liberation, that's the one you want. A nice man named Eldritch will then take you to Iron Island." Sub explained.

Brian watched as Sub picked up something from a desk drawer, slamming down a piece of paper in front of him. Ah, this was his ticket, then. Well, Sub certainly didn't beat around the bush. He reached out to take it, placing it in the belt pouch he carried with him. He looked at Sub again as the older man spoke to him, reiterating his instructions to report to the dock in the morning. "Hopefully the next time we meet, I'll be able to use Channeling abilities," he said, rising from his chair and giving Sub a slight bow before he left the office. Something about the way Sub said 'nice man named Eldritch' rubbed him the wrong way, but he wouldn't worry about it until it was time to leave.
That night, he packed a light bag; while Sub had said that accommodations were provided on Iron Island, he hadn't said anything about the boat ride over. So he packed a few snacks to tide him over until he reached his destination. When the next morning arrived, he ate a granola bar and had Claydol teleport him to Canalave City, then walked toward the docks. It took him a few minutes to find the S.S. Liberation, and when he reached it, he pulled out his ticket to show the man he assumed was Eldritch. "I'm on my way to Iron Island," he said.

Brian would find the man named Eldritch, finding him to be somewhat stereotypical in his appearance. He was kind of a hefty man, more muscular than fat but still in general large. His outfit was typical of a sailor, white and blue. As Brian approached he stood up from his seated position on a cooler and let out a groan as he stretched out a bit before speaking. "Ahoy! Welcome! You're the last passenger I was waiting on this morning. You got yer ticket do ya? Hand it here." He said, asking for the ticket. Once received Eldritch would take out a stamp set the ticket on the cooler, stamp it, and then hand it back to Brian.
"You'll need that for the return trip." He said before turning to the S.S. Liberation. "She isn't much but she'll get you to any island off the coast of Canalave! And she has a max capacity of twenty people but today just shy of a dozen, miners and you. Now come aboard and let's get sailing!" Eldritch said as he began to walk up the ramp to board the S.S. Liberation.
Once Brian boarded the ship he would find it indeed all the smaller side, just enough room to find a place to sit and get comfortable with many chairs that lined the sides of the boat. A majority of the chairs were taken by the apparent miners, most of them looking dirty already despite it being the first shift of the day. None of them paid Brian too much attention, all of them in that zombie-like work mindset you typically see in the early birds. Oh well, hopefully it wasn't too long of a ride to Iron Island.
"Everyone seated! If not you better hold tight! Onward to Iron Island!" Eldritch declared from the boat's loudspeaker and before they knew it they were taking off, the ship quickly gaining speed as it began to skim along the ocean's surface. Next stop; Iron Island.

The large man named Eldritch wasn't anything like Brian was expecting. Sure, he was expecting a larger man, since he could tell the man was a sailor, but he wasn't expecting him to be quite so friendly. That being said, he handed Eldritch his ticket and took it back once it was stamped, making sure it was secure in his belt pouch. Seeing the Liberation up close, Brian was impressed that a vessel that size could hold twenty people. As he boarded the vessel, he could see there wasn't all that much room, and most of the chairs had already been taken by the miners he could see. He didn't mind them not paying attention to him, not really expecting to have much of a conversation with them. Just as he sat down, the vessel picked up speed, sending him sideways a bit before he caught his balance. Hmm, perhaps this wouldn't take too long, if they were going as fast as he thought they were. He entertained himself by pulling up what information he could on Iron Island, wanting to have at least some knowledge of the place before docking there.

As the boat sailed across the ocean Brian would read up on Iron Island, learning bits of information about how Aura Mining, owned by Riley Arlon, owned all the mining rights on the island. Furthermore it was Iron Island that once supplied all of Sinnoh's iron as well as the iron for Kanto, Johto, and Hoenn. However it looks like operations have died down in recent use as the ore reserves diminished. As such Riley has begun to shift Iron Island from a mining operations to a training ground for Pokemon trainers, he himself challenging the Battle Frontier to earn notoriety for Iron Island as a place where trainers can become as talented as him. The island also boasts being the training grounds for two gym leaders; Roark and Byron. There is also a local legend that there is a shrine to an ancient Pokemon hidden somewhere far beneath the island but it has never been confirmed.
In time the boat would arrive at the dock of Iron Island, Brian instantly clocking the smell of dirt and earth upon arrival. The boat would pull up to the dock and Eldritch would tie it to said dock before dropping the ramp to let the miners and Brian off. The sailor would say at the top of the ramp and see them off. "Have a good day!" He would say to the miners until he got to Brian. "Be careful lad, the wild Pokemon can be rough here."
