Hakuron could almost feel the change in the air of the new year being ushered in. He saw his friend Halcyon. She was always so awesome to talk with. He genuinely enjoyed his time with her. He smiled as he walked up to the waters edge where they had planned to meet.
"Hey Halcyon! What are you up to?" He smiled warmly as he waited for an answer. Halcyon had been traveling through the different areas of the water. She had met different herds and had gained a bunch of friends. Both on land and in the sea. She enjoyed traveling and hanging out with those she met along the way. She had seen a few getting ready for new years celebrations and she wondered where or who she would spend hers with. She had not really done much for the holiday before but she wanted to start trying to hang out with her friends more often. when Haku had reached out to her to invite her to spend some time together she jumped with joy at the invitation. She immediately sent back her acceptance and headed over to meet him. That was around three days ago. It had been a long swim but she didn't mind.
She saw his big form before he noticed her. She thought about splashing him and soaking those feathers he loved to prune. He was a big softie no matter how much he tried to act dignified or like a warrior. She laughed lightly to herself thinking about how silly it was that there could be people who actually take that man seriously. When she heard his voice she popped up higher out of the water and came in a little closer to shore. It was hard maintaining land based friends but she enjoyed the challenge.
"I'm not up to much. Thank you for inviting me for new years. It means the world to me!" She giggled with the exclamation. She waded in the water and felt the waves lapping at her sides. Hakuron had realized that it was about time for his clan's New Years Festival. He had participated in several being the crown prince of the Phoenix and Dragon kingdoms. They had been merged long ago... but traditions had been kept. Especially the celebration of the new year.
Hakuron looked at Halcyon and missed being home for this festival. It was probably his favorite of them. He had been traveling for so long and had found plenty of friends, treaties, and even lovers. Halcyon is one of those friends he had met and tried to keep in contact with. He loved her bubbly personality and she was always so kind.
"Absolutely! Theres no one else out here in these lands that I would rather spend tonight with!" He smiled at her warmly. He took a few steps into the water, his tail flicking at the top of the water. He didn't mind getting wet but it definitely was not his favorite activity. Halcyon just smiled with him and watched as he settled into the water with her. She was glad that he enjoyed the water as much as he did. She knew that most of the land soq did not really want to be in the water or be with water based soq, so she was really glad. Her family had been lost to her in a great storm so part of her wandering around was trying to reunite with them. She had found others like her, but she had not found her family yet. She still continued to search and try and find them. Who knows when maybe she would. She looked a little forlorn at the thought of her family but she shook it off. This was not the time to be looking to the past. this was the new year and as the snow fell around them she knew that she couldn't remain this far north for too long. she would need to head further south to the warmer waters. also deeper. It was kinda ironic. she would hold out in the deeper warmer waters in order to get through the cold and the harshness of the snowstorm that seemed to be brewing. She looked behind Haku at the snow covered trees. Her new Years would be avoiding all of that. she definitely was not a cold water friend. She enjoyed the warm and hot waters much better.
"So what does your family do for the new year?" She wanted to get him talking again. She wanted him to fill the silence that was making her miss the family she had lost more than she already did. She knew her new years would be with him and this was perfect for her. after they parted she would head back south and hang out in the warm waters until it was warm enough to come back up. Hakuron thought back to the festival back home. She had looked forlorn for a moment, so when she asked about his new years he decided to go into detail for her. he would paint the best picture for her so she would almost feel like she was there. little did she know he had put together something special for her. some Twinkling mini bonfires to watch and warm them on the beach. He had set them up the day or so before. He settled more into the water and let his Suti fire warm him and the water around him.
"Well about this time I suppose that they would be doing dances in the town squares. The soq of the Clan would be decorated in all the finest silks and shiniest of adornments. There would be food, dancing, and bonfires. The festivities lasted about five days and it is a fantastic break for everyone involved. They would even throw different herbs on the fire in order to throw up different colored sparks. The young ones loved this part. It had been my favorite part when I was small." He paused for a momentHalcyon listened intently. She was so enraptured with what he was saying she could picture it. The different Dragons and Phoenixes, the Kitsunes, and the others of his Clan all dancing around. She had taken messages for him and to him from some of the members of the Clan or their friends. She knew it was a really tight knit almost family type kingdom. After she found her parents she might even choose to make the waters near there her home.
"That sounds absolutely lovely... Keep going.... nothing you all do is small so I know there has to be more!!" She teased him hoping to get him to keep going. She had noticed the waters around them had started to warm up a bit and she moved slightly closer to him and settled into the warm waters. It then clicked in her mind that he was a fire suti and had a little bit of control over fire. She didn't know how much control he had but she knew it was enough to do small things. She assumed this was a part of that small amount of things he could do. Hakuron laughed lightly he was happy that she knew his homeland. He was excited to talk about it and talking with her about his family's new years made him feel like maybe he was not missing as much as he could have been.
"Well.... My mother had spoiled me and my siblings. We had all gotten to choose a sweet each night of the festival. My mother would get a new piece of Jewelry from my father each year. She would love it and show it off for the entire duration of the festival. She would tell anyone who would listen." He laughed at the memory. It was so vivid in his mind. He wondered what piece she would get this year. His father spoiled his mother more than anyone else. His father may have been hard and distant to outsiders but to anyone in the family, he was a giant softie. Halcyon nodded excitedly. She had met Haku's mom and she had barely escaped. The woman was a collector of everything it seemed. Especially of other beings. Both Soquili and creatures alike. She shuddered at the memory. His mother was going to build a grand lake and let Halcyon live in it. She giggled. How silly to think that she could just be pampered by Haku's sweet but maybe a little crazy mother.
She nodded to Haku to continue with his story. She was enjoying all the visuals. She looked out over the water and noticed the moon had risen. She watched it as the light had started to fade from around them. Hakuron was eager to tell her everything. There words just started tumbling out of his mouth.
"The feast happens on Day Three, Right in the middle and right on the actual first day of the new year." His stomach grumbled at the thought of the feasts. He had a special fondness for a few of the cakes he knew would be included in the feast. It had a little bit of everything. "The Feasts would have everything. There would be Cakes, My personal favorite, Meats, Cheeses, sides everything you can think of they would have for the feasts." He chuckled to himself. "Its a great time for everyone and everyone has fun!!"
He smiled to himself thinking about the family he left behind. He wasn't quite ready to go back but maybe... just maybe he was getting close?
Halcyon giggled as his stomach rumbled. She knew he was a foodie so it didn't surprise her. She knew it had to be magnificent. She expected no less from his family. when she saw him smile to himself, she smiled in turn. It was so nice to seem him so relaxed and ready to just exist. She looked back over to the moon for a while.
"Your New years celebrations sound just fantastic. Maybe we should get everyone together from here and go over to your place for new years next year!" She laughed. "Well if we can then get away from your mother..... that is....." The giggle fit took over. She burst out into giggles and laughs sending little waves out around them. Hakuron thought this was the best moment to light the surprise he had for her. He had waited til the light had faded and for the moon to rise. It was finally dark enough. as she talked about going to his home for next years celebrations he knew it should happen. He could always escape again after all. What would it hurt to go home for just a little bit. after all he missed Honovi greatly.
"Yeah maybe we should..... I'll invite everyone we know...." He laughed and while she was in her giggle fit went to the small little bonfires and lit them with his suti fire one by one. He smiled at her as he returned to the water and waited for her reaction to the little fires glowing on the beach and sending different colored sparks into the sky around them. Halcyon was giggling so much she missed Haku going back to land. She stopped for a moment hoping she hadn't sent him off by annoying him. She then noticed the little fires. they were amazing!! She was so excited she started swimming in circles.
"Haku they're fantastic!! Oh My!! How did you do this?!" She was so excited and watching the sparks come down around her and Haku. Hakuron returned to the water with her and settled in. He was glad she was so excited for them. It made him feel like he was closer to home.
"It's the herbs like how we would do in the Clan. I wanted to share this with you." He smiled at her and knew this would be their night together. Under the moon and stars and with the different colored sparks until they died out that was.
Halcyon laughed at Haku as she watched him walk back into the water. He settled down and started watching the moon and the sparks. She enjoyed his company. She was glad she made the trip.
"Haku this is perfect. Thank you...." She settled in and spent the rest of the night by his side just hanging out and being friends.
END. They had a lovely night under the stars ❤️
