It's a new year in the Kawani lands! Winter is in full swing and much of the land is covered in snow. Does your soquili do anything to acknowledge or celebrate the new year? Are they part of a herd or family that has a tradition or ceremony? Have they made a promise to start the new year with a clean slate and change themselves for the better?

Or did they simply try to stay warm and wait for the snow to melt and spring to arrive?

Write an RP responding to the above prompt. Your soquili should acknowledge the fact that it is a New Year - how they react to that is up to you.

It was the eve of a New Year and Swift Wind's family have gathered to reflect upon the ending of a year. There was a mass of pink blur deep in the snow covered forest. There was laughing and cheering, not a frown in sight. They survived another year.

Swift Wind looked on with proud demeanor. He was getting old--so old that his joints ached and even though the cold made his wings ache in agony he could only feel joy. His time would come, surely not now and though he had no love beside him, he was not lonely. He was not one to settle down and sure, he had some energy remaining to sire more for his bloodline if the time would grant him the pleasure. He was happy either way watching his family grow.

He glanced to towards his grandson who brought a mare this year. He watched as Prince Valor turned crimson in the face as he was teased by his brother.

"I bet he's a softy of the sorts..." Prince Galien smirked towards his brother "Did he tell you one of his poems?"

"Poems?" Rosetta sounded surprised. She looked towards her mate who seemed to inch away and glare dangers towards his brother "I didn't know you made poems?" she was curious, what else was he hiding from her??

Prince Galien couldn't help but laugh at the exchange. The two were a pair, he recalled his last memory with his brother was full of anguish and despair of being alone. He himself never felt bothered over the fact but his younger brother seemed more emotional than him. When his brother returned with
Rosetta by his side he never saw a frown upon his face since. He supposed that was what love would do to one, he's never been so he could not relate to the feelings.

He felt a pair of eyes on him and noticed his mother looking his way. He gave a confused look and she just shook her head at him.

"Errr--my poems..." Prince Valor became flustered as Rosetta approached him more "Well...maybe some time I can tell them to you..." he shifted his gaze. He felt embarassed and hearing the others laugh didn't make him feel confident in his poems. He let out a grunt and looked towards his older brother with the expression I WILL KILL YOU written on his face, his older brother sighed and decided to turn the attention on something else.

"Mother, what are your wishes for the new year?" Prince Galien asked.

Ophelia looked towards her sons and without hesitation said "Grandchildren."

Prince Valor simply grew red and Rosetta managed a nervous giggle, she couldn't help but bury her face into her mate who seemed to struggle against her.

Prince Galien gave a nod "Aye, I'm sure the two of them would be glad to honor your wish."

"What about you?" Ophelia asked looking at her son with concern, he had made no attempt to court and throw interest in anyone. Though her father was similar in terms of flirting and playing around--she figured by now he'd sire a child. What could possibly be holding him back?

For once Prince Galien felt uneasy, he never thought about children and sure he liked to play around but in terms of kids? He blinked his eyes and just gave a nervous laugh "Well...maybe one day?" he wanted to give comfort to his mother.

Swift Wind just let out a loud snort "Ophelia, leave the kid be!" he let out a bellowed laughter.

As midnight was about to hit Swift Wind walked towards the center of his family who were gathered in a big circle. He looked around at all their faces, they had been talking amongst themselves but when he cleared his throat all their attention was upon him as he made his speach "My family, another year is ending and a new one begins, may our dreams and wishes take flight!" with that the family began to count down "10!"

"9!"

"8!"

"7!"

"6!"

"5!"

"4!"

"3!"

"2!"

"1!"

"Happy New Year!!!" they all cried out.

Somewhere far away up on the cliff sides of the land of the harpies was Night Wind who was standing at the edge. He was looking up at the starry sky and quietly to himself he said "Happy new year!"

He had not seen his family a very long time. He had heard tales from his son who left the flock but then returned. His father at the time was doing well and had other children, he had other siblings...sometimes I longed to see them but he chose to stay with the flock. He would never leave Celaeno.

April 2025
The snow has finally melted from everywhere except the mountaintops. Flowers and plants make their final push through the soft ground as it finally defrosts to bloom and sprout; leaves return to bare branches. Green and warmth are returning to the Kawani lands. Warmer days have melted frozen lakes and the snowmelt coming down from the mountains seems greater than previous years (perhaps credited to the blizzard). New rivers and streams are being created from this snowmelt and lakes and rivers are widening and rushing.

How does your soquili react to the changing landscape? Do they stake claim to one of these new bodies of water? Does the creation of a new stream put their territory at risk? Do they have to relocate?

"Ah, it appears a new river has sprung." Mizuki said as he observed the rushing water before him. He placed his right hoof in and winced at the cold wet feeling clinging to his hoof.

"Careful brother, wouldn't want you to fall in and be carried out to gods know where." Megumi said as she approached his side, she looked back over to see Usagi staring at the river with big worried eyes "I do say this will be an issue, only one capable of handling the river will be able to cross or if bless with wings such as myself." she smirked.

Usagi lowered her head and closed her eyes, she felt weak at this moment. Well, she always felt weak but now in particular she had to face it. She looked towards Mizuki with a woeful glance "Master, how will I get the tea leaves now?" she sounded like she was on the verge of tears.

Mizuki frowned, he sure was not going into the river. He was quick on his hooves but was no swimmer. He knew he'd probably drown or be carried out, surely if they walked further down the river's edge they might find a way to cross the river. However, it was unknown how far they would have to travel.
He could give up on the tea leaves or ask his younger sister for a favor---at what cost?

He cleared his throat to hold back whatever pride he had wanting to halt his tongue at this very moment and looked towards his sister. He gave a fake smile, one he'd use often when a certain annoying male patron would visit him, but the gifts were always worth the stomach turning interaction "Sister, will you be a dear and fly over to fetch the tea leaves? I am rather low and well...I can't really serve tea without them."

Megumi rolled her eyes "What do I get in return? Who knows what is going on over there and I'll be alone."

"Ah, well just name your price..." he began to dig his right hoof into the mud, his eyes not meeting hers.

She laughed "Can't even look me in the eyes, gods what a shameful sight you are." she tsked and then thought on what he could offer her. There were many things she wanted and there were many things he'd hate her for asking for, still the power has been presented her at this very moment and she will not squander it. She looked over towards Usagi who stood nearby meekly watching the two siblings "I want her." she smirked "I want your little servant."

"Usagi?" he gasped and shook his head "NO!"? Never, I'd rather go in the river and get the damned tea leaves myself."

"Aw c'mon, it sickens me to see such a small creature calling you master and doing whatever you ask." she glared at him "Besides, you are far too busy with your patrons and you have Haru to assist you."

Mizuki looked towards Usagi and sighed "Fine!!"

"M--Master?" Usagi looked confused and Mizuki just shook his head looking away.

Megumi approached Usagi "No more will you call him master. Do you understand? Nor are you to call me Mistress. I simply ask you to help me when I call upon it." she told the small usida.

Usagi just gave a nod, she stepped back when Megumi began to flap her wings. She watched the younger sibling take off past the river and land in a
distance that she could no longer see. She looked towards Mizuki "Um..."

Mizuki looked over towards the usida and sighed "Just call me by my name for now on!" he then glanced towards the river. Silently he cursed its existance and muttered about finding someone to build a path over the river. He will be doing more of his own work for now on. Atleast spring was here and the days were about to become more warmer, it would get him outside of his comfort zone. Perhaps it was a blessing rather then a curse.

Megumi landed and found the tea leaves, they looked healthy. She leaned down and took the tea leaves into her mouth. As she was gathering them she saw a shadow pass by her on the left side. She stopped and looked around, the eerie quietness made her grow cautious of her surroundings. This was a new land now, created by a river and she did not know if there were any new occupants.

She looked for signs and noticed in the dirt close by her there were claw foot prints. They resembled a bird of some sort, a rather large one at that. She tucked the tea leaves she gathered into a pouch that was hidden in her accesory sash. When she was about to take off she heard a sound towards her right--a whistle? Then another to her left and then to her front, yes it was time to make her leave.

She might be able to take them on, but she had no idea how many there were. All she could hear were whistles in every direction and some were far but others were close. They were all perfectly synchronized. She stretched her wings and without any further delay she took off before she learn to inhabits of the whistles.

When she landed before her brother she tossed the pouch at his feet "There! That should tie you over for sometime." she then looked back over towards the river "You might not be getting any more tea leaves from over there for some time.."

"Why is that?" Mizuki asked while snatching up the pouch with his mouth and shoving it into his decorative garment.

"The land over there is no longer free."

Usagi looked confused "What does that mean?" she asked them.

"Trouble, that is what she means." Mizuki said and looked towards his sister

"Did you see the occupants?"

She shook her head "No, but it sounded like there was many of them--they used whistling as some sort of communation. Perhaps a code of some sort for them." she closed her eyes and thought "I did see bird like prints in the mud. Rather large ones."

"Harpies?"

"I doubt it, they usually stick the mountains."

"Unlikely to be a herd of shifters--I mean it does happen, but during the day? No, can't be them." Mizuki said and looked towards his sister "Perhaps we should inform someone? I mean that land was never ours to begin with but...they could be a threat."

Megumi gave a nod "I will keep an eye and ear for any threats." she said then added "Besides, we don't even know if its a threat or perhaps just some common herd or even animal of some sort. Though, it is best not to cross the rive anytime soon atleast not alone."

"Ugh. Its going to make my tea business plummet! I'm going to have to go buy my stock from a shady merchant. The quality will suffer and I'll be ruined!!!" he sighed.

"Oh brother, atleast you still have a pretty face." Megumi teased.

Mizuki sighed "Lets go home, I'm tired and these leaves need to be properly stored." he grumbled as the trio began to head home. There home was quite a distance and they wanted to make it before nightfall.

Usagi followed close behind the pair and kept looking at Mizuki. She was no longer his servant--he had raised her since birth and she had served him for as long as she existed. It felt weird...but also freeing at the same time. She had always thought Megumi disliked her because she was weak but perhaps the disdain was how Mizuki treated her. She kept quiet as the two bantered and she thought about the river---the scary things that lived on the other side.

She would not dare cross that river to the other side.
