Mysterious Carolers (6) : Caroling has been a tradition for years, so it’s not really unusual when you hear a soft chorus from outside. What is unusual is that it’s three in the morning, and the moment they start singing you feel a chill in the air. Maybe it’s a holiday song, maybe it’s not, but whatever it is it’s a song you know before--from this life? From another?--and something about this version makes you go cold. If you move to the window, you will find no carolers, but the song is loud enough that you know you should be able to see them. They sing one song, and then there is silence. An eerie chill lingers, and your dreams are haunted by strange voices. You’ll probably never be able to hear that song again without feeling unnerved.

For a moment Audra couldn't figure out where the music was coming from. It would've not been coming from any place in her room as all of her technological items were turned off for the night. Blinking slowly, the fogginess of confusion that sleep brought on made it difficult for the teen to even comprehend what she was hearing. Somewhere, somehow, someone was singing, quite literally off-key. Her slippers lay on the edge of her bed and she snuggled back down underneath her covers before the strain of music once more drifted through her window. Ok, twisting over onto her side the teen took in the time on her alarm clock before groaning loudly. Would her parents chase off whomever it was that was singing outside or would it be left to her to deal with? What was with this group of singers? Why could they not carry a tune on pitch? Pulling her pillow over her head Audra grimaced even more as it registered that the music was still finding its way into her ears. Sitting upright, her gaze took in the window where the music seemed to be drifting in from before she threw off her covers and shivered as the cold air met heated skin.

Seriously, could these people not realize that three am was not the right time to be singing outside on the street? Finding her robe Audra sighed before she shrugged it on and reached down for her slippers before throwing those on too. It was best to stay warm if she was about to open her window in order to yell at those that chose to ruin the perfect calm of the overnight period. Crossing the room to her window Audra pulled back the curtains in order to peer down at the street before growing more than a little puzzled. No one was out there. Her gaze swung to stare down at the front yard and there still did not appear to be anyone there. But the music persisted. Where were the singers? Audra's gaze swept to and fro, expecting to catch some apparent movement that would reveal the position of the unseen carollers. There was nothing. What was going on?

The song was reaching a crescendo of a sorts as the invisible carollers warbled in the wrong cadence on what Christmas meant to them. Her hands went to cover her ears because not only could she not recognize the song but the growing disharmony amongst the group meant that it was extremely difficult to simply listen to. For a moment Audra was compelled to open her window and yell out to simply give it up because they were not going to improve their singing, even if they chose to carol in the wee hours of the morning. But there was still no sight of any group on the road. It was exceedingly bizarre. All of a sudden the song drifted off into silence and Audra could not help but shiver at the implication that something had just happened that she could not fully comprehend. Crossing back to her bed the teen sighed before once more climbing under her covers before turning her head to stare at the window. Hopefully there would not be a repeat performance. Placing her head down on the pillow she wondered if this was something that needed to be brought to the Court's attention. Probably not, but it had been a weird occurrence.
