As the year comes to an end, an abnormal cold snap has taken over Tendaji. The mountains of Zena are covered in a blizzard, and even the desert of Oba is feeling a bit of an abnormal chill.

[ What do you get up to during the cold? Do you find a place to warm up, or check up on a friend? ]

Raffrdeigh was fascinated by this cold weather. It was dreadfully abysmal, but it was fascinating all the same. On the beach, the teen had set up a small tent bursting with cozy blankets. A little fire crackled while she stood in front of it with a heavy sweater, a hat, full pants, and slippers with additional towels tied around her feet since she lacked any real winter boots. Just being so fully covered was annoying in itself! But, it was worth it to watch the clear sky dim and shimmer as evening transitioned into night. Did the cold make the emerging stars extra clear, or was she just imagining things?

Imri pulled his cloak tighter to his body with a grimace. He'd known that traveling further up the mainland would bring cooler climates, but this was earlier than anyone had expected and far more wrathful. It hadn't been enough to keep him cooped up with his family, however. One day huddled in the warmth with Zivah was enough to bring the hybrid out into the harsh winds 'in search of driftwood'.

As if the hut they were camped out in hadn't already been stocked.

His bare arms were stinging by the time the hut was out of sight and his feet, though wrapped, were feeling the effects of the cold. At this rate he would have to turn back or -

-make nice. He'd seen the fire, anyone would have, and while every instinct in him was screaming to turn around the cold the made his ear tips numb pushed him forward. "A trade?" Imri lamely held up some of the wood he'd collected and motioned to the flame. He didn't dare get too close just yet; the fire's wielder could have been the mage that started it or a keeper of a keldari, tucked just out of sight. "Wood for some warmth?"

What would it be like to swim among the stars? Maybe like when those glimmer eels were breeding and all the tiny babies burst from the sea grass! By accident, of course. She would never-

A strange voice pulled her from her thoughts. "Trade?" she repeated as she turned to look. Well... that was not what she had imagined in the slightest. It was after a brief pause that she smiled and nodded. "Sure. There'll be plenty of warmth to go around with that added wood." She cocked her head slightly, taking in the others dressings. Without a worry, she pointed to the little tent. "You must be freezing. I've got blankets in there. Help yourself to one. Or even two."

"Just the fire." He didn't know if anyone - or anything was in that tent, let alone what might happen to him if he turned his back on her. Imri crossed the distance between them, got close enough to drop a few pieces of wood on the fire, and promptly sat as far away from her as he could while staying warm.

His eyes never left her. She was a hybrid - that much was obvious - but why was she here? The other didn't look Matorian so maybe she was traveling, too. Whatever the case he kept a guarded scowl her way and made himself as comfortable as one could.

DeeDee looked over to her tent. Was something wrong with it? She pursed her lips and shrugged. "Suit yourself. Open to grab one later if you like." She aimed what she hoped would be an encouraging and reassuring smile at the stranger, but that was when she realized the look she was getting. Were they.. scowling? Maybe it was just a trick of the light. Surely they weren't! Not at her when she was sharing her fire.

Maybe they were just impressed by her looks? Jealous, even? That thought made her smirk a little. 'Getting a little full of yourself there, Dee?' "Aren't the stars pretty?" she offered politely. "I feel like the cold is making them clearer."

"What are you?" Imri asked with a point blank curiosity. "I know you're Elarian, but I don't understand the rash on your cheeks or why you're here." Or maybe it was mold? He'd seen it in the corners of their hut from time to time if the cleaning wasn't done right during the hot months. Maybe it wasn't proper to ask; he'd learned earthlings could be prickly like that, but she wasn't an earthling. Whatever she was she would be proud of it, like all other females who shared Aishan blood and be done with it.

"The stars are...stars." They looked nice, but gawking over them was just a time waster.

The blunt request was met with a surprised stare. Not only were they just coming out and asking about her blood, but he could tell she was Elarian? She turned back to the fire and sat down on the opposite side of it from the stranger to face him from a safe distance. "For one thing, they're markings, not a rash. Makuahine is Kewena, from Kahikina. They all have markings like this. And mother is half Elarian and half Matorian." Perhaps she shouldn't have been so willing to just give out such information, but the social butterfly felt no need for secrets.

"What about you? You're familiar enough to recognize I'm Elarian. Is that where you get your eyes?"

Imri sat with his legs crossed, lean body hunched over his lap so that his cloak would cover the majority of his body. There was no hiding his face, though, or the white locs that fell around his temple. "Looks like a rash." He muttered, watching her over the lick of flames and only moderately relaxing when she sat. A warrior might take a second to throw a dagger, but a mage was quicker.

He couldn't be too careful.

"Makuahine Kahikina what?" Imri furrowed his little brows. That was...a mouthful and he...were those words even real? The other parts he understood, though. She wasn't the hybrid, her mother was, which made her even more of a diluted mess than he was.

"I was bloomed in Zinris. One of my mothers is an Alkidike and the other is a Shifter." He didn't owe her an explanation and maybe it was the warmth of the fire that was making him talkative. Any other time he would have refused to give personal details.

DeeDee narrowed her eyes contemplatively. After a thought, she just sighed and shook her head. "Not a rash," she assured with a bemused smirk. "Wait, you've never heard of Kahikina? That's a shame. My family just came back from a trip over there. It's really pretty."

She was quiet for a moment as she went through the mental gymnastics of sorting the young man's history. An Alkidike and a Shifter chose Elzira for their babies? And, if she was understanding correctly, the goddess had given them a boy? How interesting! "I see! No wonder you're so handsome." She leaned back into a more relaxed posture and smiled. "My name's DeeDee. Will you tell me your name, or shall I just call you Mysterious Stranger?" When she told anyone of this interesting encounter, she was certainly going to refer to his as such no matter what. It would surely sound more romantic than whatever name he told her!

Had he heard of the Kahikina? The name really didn't seem all that familiar, but it wasn't as if Imri gave much thought to things outside of what he needed to get by. If it was as common as she seemed to think it was then someone probably mentioned it to him at some point, but it hadn't been impressive enough to stick.

A strong, vicious wind cut along his back and even with the fire Imri felt himself shiver. Goddess, this weather was atrocious. He was busy trying to fold his legs underneath the cloak when her compliment gave him pause, and when he looked up his facial expression was akin to someone swallowing a bug.

"Stranger is fine." He'd already given her more than enough information; she wouldn't get his name. "Where is the Kahikina? Is it an island in Matori?"

got That same bitter wind found its way under DeeDee's shirt. With a gasp and a shiver, she shifted again to take on a posture more similar to that of her companion. That new expression he wore though... Alas. How disappointing. "Mysterious Stranger it is, then," she agreed as she shimmied her way over to the tent.

"It's across the ocean! Have you heard of Belrea? It's south of that." She reached into the tent to grab at the first blanket on top of her pile and shimmied back over to her spot across from Mysterious Stranger. She preferred to be closer to people she was talking to, but even she could read the signs that "approachable" was not in this guy's top ten traits. "Umm, between Belrea and Yael, I think? It's got a bunch of islands though. Covered in rivers and lakes. And the water!" She gave a happy sigh. "It's so beautiful under the surface. The reefs here are lovely, but over there? Nothing like it."

When she mentioned Belrea he nodded his head. Imri had heard of airships a time or two and decided quite early on that was something he never wanted to do. He had enough trouble on the ground so the thought of disappearing beyond the clouds...Yeah, that was a hard no.

"So it's like Matori, but also not." He hadn't seen as many rivers here as what she was talking about having in the Kahikina so maybe it was just more diverse? So much water though...They might as well just live in it and be done with it. She spoke about it with as much reverence as he would give the wilds of Yael which made him wonder if it really was that nice or if she was as sheltered as he had been.

"You should stay on this side of the beach." He said after a moment's pause. His family was on the other end, nestled in a little hut on the water for the night and while they were doing their best to 'blend', if someone were to stumble upon their camp while exploring the beach...

"Don't ask why; just...don't go." Imri explained awkwardly and then after a breath held out his hand. "I'll trade the tip for a blanket."

DeeDee cocked her head slightly. "I guess it would sound like that.. but it's a lot different if you get to see it for yourself." She could still vividly remember how at home she had felt during their visit. She loved Matori and certainly didn't feel out of place, per se, but Kahikina gave her no doubts.

And she was certainly missing the weather right then. The cold was still interesting, but she didn't hesitate to wrap the blanket snug around herself.

Of course, the warning made her look over the fire curiously. She'd lived in this area her whole life. What could possibly-? Well, if Mr. Mysterious Stranger was new... what else could be hiding out there? She crawled back to the tent to grab another blanket with a cocked brow. "You know, you'd be better off telling me someone is planning to kill me over there. Just saying 'don't go' just makes me want to know." She walked on her knees toward her guest, but caught herself before she got too close. With a small smile, she gently tossed the blanket the remaining few feet. "I promise I won't go though. At least, not tonight." Rather than go back to the opposite side of the fire though, she settled down where she had paused with a content expression and pulled her own blanket tight again.

"Then that's your call." He watched her as she went back to the tent with all the wariness of a stray. "Sometimes it's better not to know." Even when she'd started cautiously making her way closer he didn't move; at lest, not until she'd tossed the blanket and stopped. He got up then into a crouch and moved forward just enough to snatch the blanket and return to his spot.

He wasn't about to out his family like that. What if she told someone and a group of locals deemed them a threat? They'd be right, of course, but it wouldn't be ideal.

Imri pulled the blanket up around him, fully expecting her to go back to her spot but when she didn't he only frowned. The hybrid contemplated scooting away, but instead he just burrowed into the blanket, keen on getting as warm as possible so he could make his escape.
