Counts as 5 RP growth Points
Solo word minimum is 750, RP post minimum is 7

As the year comes to an end, an abnormal cold snap has taken over Tendaji. The mountains of Zena are covered in a blizzard, and even the desert of Oba is feeling a bit of an abnormal chill.

[ What do you get up to during the cold? Do you find a place to warm up, or check up on a friend? ]

(1/7)

Training with Illapha wasn't meant to be fun. It was meant to be a chance for them to improve their pitiful skills, to perhaps prove their worth to the captain so they could rise through the ranks of The Whispering Witch. 'Course, when they told Illapha that the hyrid had narrowed his eyes at them and taken to being even more rough and cold in their interactions. So, given that most of the time Tavihe left their training covered in bruises and sore - they decided they might as well make some fun out of it.

And they had the perfect excuse for it. A strange turn of weather had cause their ship to anchor off the coast of a small village, lest they become victims of the unpredictable shift of winds. A few rowdier folks had gone to shore and were likely looting and stealing what warmth they could, while a skeleton crew remained on the frozen ship, cycling shifts to make sure the sea didn't somehow freeze it in place. Most of those off shift were hunkered down in their bunks, stealing the blankets of those who'd gone to shore or were working, but Tavihe could think of a better way to stay warm.

Illapha wasn't that fond of Tavihe. He couldn't put his finger on the why of it, but something about them just rubbed him the wrong way. There was a shiftiness to their eyes, a casual disregard for the well being of their crewmates that he couldn't excuse, and worst of all they had somehow managed to take advantage of Xenia's secretly kind heart and gotten a favor from her in the form of these lessons. It hadn't been expressly stated by his boss, but he thought perhaps Xenia was hoping Illapha would help her judge whether or not Tavihe could become an ally to her cause. So far, he wasn't impressed.

If anything, they reminded him a bit of Indra - crafty, constantly weighing their words as if honesty was unheard of to them. So when, during the coldest night he thought he'd ever suffered through, he found them knocking at his cabin door, he leveled them with an unimpressed glare, baring his teeth in a displeased snarl. "What d'you want?"

Tavihe threw on their most charming grin and, perhaps fearing Illapha would slam his door shut in their face, braced one of their arms against the doorframe, leaning physically into the large man's space. "Evening. Just finished up duty and -" Tavihe gave a performative shiver, tugged the blanket they had thrown over their shoulders a bit closer, and bat their eyelashes at Illapha. "I'm freezing! I couldn't think of anyone better to help me… warm up."

"You're joking." Illapha growled, eyes going flat. He shifted to try and shut the door, but Tavihe's weight made it a bit difficult; he could slam it shut anyway, or shove them aside to make it easier, but he hesitated. Yeah, Tavihe was clearly hamming it up, but that didn't mean the way their words turned into mist in the freezing cabin air was faked. "I'm not looking for a bed warmer. Go away."

"Oh, but I am!" Tavihe chirped guiltlessly. When the large man didn't reply, Tavihe huffed and ducked under his massive arm, skittering inside. Favored by the captain though he was, Illapha was a huge dude and the private cabin he'd been afforded was still small. To Tavihe's delight, though, he actually had a porthole - though it was mostly covered up by a raggedy shirt of Illy's. "C'mon, you don't even have enough blanket to cover yourself with! We can help each other out!"

Wh— why that little! Illapha made an aborted grab for Tavihe, but the slippery thing was less effected by the cold that slowed his limbs. By the time he shut the door and turned to glower at them, Tavihe was already making themselves at home, unrepentent.

Illapha's lips twitched with reluctant amusement, his eyebrows climbing up his face. With the door closed, his massive frame crowded the smaller pirate more than a little - not that Tavihe seemed to mind. "You know, Obans don't really run any hotter than anyone else."

Well! Illapha wasn't heaving Tavihe out by the nape of their neck, so this felt like a win! Tavihe paused for just a moment, waiting for his response, but when he simply snapped the door closed they flopped down onto his sleeping pallet (most here used hammocks, but given how big the guy was it made sense why he'd gone without one), moaning at the residual warmth in the blanket.

"Could've fooled me! C'mere, I'm freezing big guy!" They made grabby hands at Illapha, and even lifted their own blanket in invitation.

Huh. Illapha shoved down the unexpected reaction his body had to seeing a pretty figure in his bed, firmly locking that reaction away where he could examine it later. It made sense; he hadn't had the indiscriminate tumbles he'd gotten used to, after re-joining the Whispering Witch's crew. Knowing now how untrustworthy his crew mates were made it difficult to grow any lasting interest, when it could mean a dagger between the ribs.

But Tavihe had a vested interest in keeping in Xenia's good graces, so for now Illapha allowed himself a gracious 'Maybe'. Then he grudgingly dropped back down to sit on the thin mattress laid out on the floor, tugging the blanket that he'd previously been bundled in out from under Tavihe's bum, slinging it around himself with a soft hum of approval.

Tavihe yelped when the blanket was yanked out from under them. If anything, it should've only sent them rolling into the cold wood of the cabin wall, but instead - cheekily - they rolled themselves onto Illapha's chest, snuggling into the soft, warm skin with a blissful sigh. The blanket still wrapped around their shoulders covered most of their lanky frame, if they tucked their legs up a bit to hide their feet beneath it. Better yet, now their body heat was trapped between their blankets and bodies, creating the perfect oven for Tavihe to melt into.

What a brat! But, grudgingly, Illapha couldn't argue with the benefits of the new position. Tavihe's skin was chilled from the walk to his cabin, their toes frozen where they'd cruelly tucked between his shins (cold enough he hissed and pinched at Tavihe's hip through the blanket in retaliation), but the core of their body was warm and before long he closed his eyes, melting into it.

"Don't get used to it."

Tavihe snorted then laughed loudly at the pinch, wriggling a bit in complaint before settling down again with a contented hum. "I'm already used to you smooshing me up against stuff. At least now it's something soft." Tavihe snorted, and buried their face into his chest, smirking a bit to themselves.

"Hey." Illapha chided, rolling his eyes. After a few minutes of dozing, he sighed and allowed his arms to slip around Tavihe's waist, in order to get just a bit more comfortable. Idly, he allowed his thumb to sweep over a patch of glowing skin, surprised despite himself to find it smooth; he'd always imagined scales there, given the texture of the glow.

Who would've imagined that the grump of a man would be so cuddly and tactile? Tavihe reassessed, considering they'd expected him to throw them out for teasing him. Instead, he had all but melted, his dark eyes closed as if he was already falling asleep.

Who would've thought he'd allow himself to be so vulnerable, so quickly? Tavihe had allowed themselves to think he was as broody and stiff as his hulking, intimidating face suggested, but… perhaps that was wrong.

They could work with that.

Illapha could almost hear Tavihe plotting, like gears turning creakily in their mind. That was fine; he'd started to pick up some things from Xenia, and he was more attentive than people gave him credit for.

He'd let Tavihe think they had the upper hand, but in the end they were just two crooks taking advantage of one another for a moment of warmth. Nothing more.
