As the year comes to an end, an abnormal cold snap has taken over Tendaji. The mountains of Zena are covered in a blizzard, and even the desert of Oba is feeling a bit of an abnormal chill.

[ What do you get up to during the cold? Do you find a place to warm up, or check up on a friend? ]

”Where the heck did this come from!” Razmir shouted as he stood in the open doorway of his parent’s apartment. He looked out across the town that they lived within and watched the snow swirl and tumble in thick flakes. A blizzard had settled over the area and was making going outside near impossible. Grasping his hooded shirt, Razmir stepped completely outside and into the buffeting wings. His long bangs being tossed about as he did.

‘Shut the door, please!’ shouted his mother as he did so, locking himself out in the cold. Well not completely locking himself out, he could get back in if he wanted too, but it kept the snow and wind outside. The strong winds pulled at him until he nearly fell over. The cold bit through his normally very warm clothing. What had happened to cause this blizzard? Those that worked with the weather hadn’t said anything about all this. Was it a freak storm?

Shaking his head, Razmir started treading toward the stairs that lead down into the streets beneath as well as the shop they lived over. Even on the streets the wind howled around the corners of the buildings. There were other people out and about, but they were far and few between. ”I wonder if the hunters are going out.” Razmir pondered as he headed, struggling to get to the pub that was a few buildings down the road. ”Man, can this wind knock it off already? The snow is blinding enough.”

As he finally made it to the pub, he shoved his way into the building and shook off the snow that had collected on his shoulders and hood. He even had to shake some snow out from beneath his shirt as it had blown in and made him shiver. Inside the pub it was somewhat crowded. There was a lot of talking, passing of drinks. Razmir himself kept to the wall of the building. He wasn’t exactly old enough to sit at the bar, but his favorite table was vacant. Seating himself he remained silent as he listened to everyone.

There was a lot of talk about the weather and the movements of the Mamu herds. The Blizzard was something that was affecting the success of the hunt and it was making it hard to even track the beasts. There was also mention of some of the hunters that went out the day before that hadn’t come back yet. Perhaps they had been caught up in the storm and were hunkered down. There weren’t many places to hide from the snow and winds where they hunted. It was more open land than anything else.

‘I heard that the team has yet to return.’ Mentioned one man,

‘I heard that this storm is the worst it has ever been in years. I do hope that those caught out in this mess find shelter.’ Said another.

Razmir got to thinking, his father had been on that team. It had been a few days and his father should have returned by this time. Frowning and pulling his hood lower over his face, Razmir made for a quicker exit. Taking a muffin from the plate of a patron as he passed by. Once back outside he started nibbling on the muffin. “I need to see what has happened to those out on the hunt.”

Confirming what was in his head, Razmir headed towards the edges of town, the direction that he knew that his father’s team would have gone. There was also a conflict of telling his mother where he was going and not telling her. Hunching his shoulders and keeping his head down, Razmir headed out into the open to try and find his father and team. It took a few hours and he was bitterly cold. Snot hung out of his nose as he tried wiping it away with his sleeve. ”Why did I do this? This was such a bad idea.” Razmir complained as his teeth chattered. He was covered in snow and walking in circles.

In what seemed like forever, Razmir was just about to collapse and give up in the snow, he noticed something in the hazy distance. Squinting through the flakes he recognized the shapes of the Mammu that were, hopefully, the herd beasts his parent’s helped take care of. It wasn’t until a tall Ice man stepped out from between the beasts did Razmir fling himself forward.

‘What are you doing out here?’ the man asked as he came closer to pull Razmir into an embrace.

”I had come all the way out here to make sure that you were alright.” Razmir chattered, his teeth clacking together. His father laughed, pulling him into the huddle between the Mammu. They acted as good wind breakers and their thick coats made the air warm around them. Yep, this is where he would wait out the blizzard before returning home… To a much frantic mother for certain.
