Zena was cold, snow blanketed the ground even with the sun shinning down from above in a clear blue sky. Her parents had told her to dress warmly as the cold could harm her skin, though she didn't think it would. She was part Ice and they were good with the cold, right?
"I'm going outside!" Tisiphone yelled from the front door of the villa they stayed in. "I'll be back in by lunch time!" The youth didn't much wait for her parents to reply before slipping out the door.
The cold air hit her like a snowball and caused her to stop and shiver. Her breath came out in puffs of steam as she looked around the white landscape with emerald green eyes. Her dark hair, much like her father's, was tied back over her shoulders. She wore a vest that left her arms exposed and legging like pants. Rubbing her arms she pulled at her vest a little as if it would help.
"Maybe I should have grabbed something to cover my arms after all." She shivered. "Yea... I think I will do just that." Turning around, Tisiphone went back into the house. She hated admitting that her parents were right, but today was a day she had to agree. Warm clothing would be a plus.

Aldara had been in the kitchen cooking breakfast while she left Draven to sleep. She hated waking him early in the morning, but she was an early bird. Sometimes she rivaled her mother in the art of getting up before the sun rose over the mountains. Stretched her arms over her head, she looked over her shoulder as she had spotted her daughter heading for the door. It was still early and she wondered just what the girl was doing.
The mention of going outside, Aldara frowned. She hated the cold herself, she worried that Tisiphone would catch a chill. The youth didn't have the proper clothing on to go out this early in the morning. "Dear..." She began, but the door had already closed. "She'll be back." Aldara chuckled to herself. "Now lets see. Rolls in the oven, eggs cooking on the stove. Hmmm."
Aldara paused a moment as she heard the door open and close again, a smile creeping over her lips. Yep, Tisiphone had learned that even being part Ice didn't stop her from feeling the cold. Perhaps the youth would learn to put on warmer clothing? Hopefully so.
"Breakfast is almost ready. Go wake your father." Aldara called from the kitchen as she knew her daughter had come back inside and it was a task the youth would enjoy.

Even as a child Draven hated waking early. His father had always told him that the early bird got the worm and the early merchant got the customers. Draven hated the saying and always wrapped himself up in his bedding to ignore the man. Now he was older and started a family himself. His wife Aldara had escaped the bed earlier to get breakfast ready. He had vaguely noticed that she had left, though the smell of cooking food was enough to wake anyone. Still he rolled over and kept sleeping.
His dreams had caused him to sleep fitfully after Aldara had gotten up. Dreams of the Dretch and their caves. The other creatures that could have been down there. He had been under the effects of their poison for a while, weeks even as they moved him through their tunnels. The darkness and the sounds etched themselves into even his dreams. The clicking of their speech and rustle of limbs.
Pulling his pillow over his head, hoping to block out the sounds, his dreams changed. Everything blurred before coming back into focus. He stood unable to get to his family. His wife and daughter were being pulled in different directions from him. As much as he fought he couldn't get any closer. The distances drew further apart until he sat up in the bed. His own dark blue eyes staring about the room of the villa.
They were safe, there were no Dretch here. No traps within his grandmother's home. Shaking off the shivers that ran through his limbs, Draven flopped back onto the mattress as he heard Aldara shouting something about breakfast and the fast feet of his daughter's approach. Grinning to himself, he pulled the blanket back up and pretended to still be asleep.
