Gismondine felt…tired. He seemed to be perpetually tired nowadays, but tonight…tonight with the cold weather that made him feel like he was freezing to his bones…it was just…too much.

In fact, he was thinking of just getting up and going home, but the feeling of a Squire made him stay. Made him curious. Perhaps it was Meninx, come to talk again? Perhaps it would involve another trip up to Mars, another battle of wits. Another stake in his own feelings that he was doing the wrong thing…for, even if…even when he was helping those under him…was it really helping when they were in the Negaverse?

It was something he was asking himself more and more often, and honestly…he hoped that the Squire was someone friendly, someone who wanted to talk…for he had…

Well. He had questions to ask. And he hoped there would be answers given.

Still though, just because he wanted a friendly chat didn’t mean that he would be given such courtesy, and so he summoned his weapon to his hand, looking towards where he felt the aura, wondering if the Squire would come closer.

It had gotten so cold. Ugh. Sometimes Necro really hated how drastic the temp changes in the city could be. He really wasn't a fan of the cold. Cold weather, feeling cold... all of it

What he wouldn't give for some decent weather.

The feeling of an officer caught his attention, just when he was debating on going home. Ah well... Here we go again. Summoning his weapon, Necro moved carefully. "I'm not looking for a fight." He said, hoping that whoever answered wasn't either, though he would if he had to.

He just... really really hoped he wouldn't have to.

Necro rounded the corner of a building, yelping loudly in surprise at the appearance of the General. His fingers slipped off the bow string and the arrow flew. He hadn't expected the poor guy to be right there.

...So much for not fighting.

Well, good. At least the Squire wasn’t looking for a fight either, at least from his words. Gismondine relaxed just a bit, but then…magic shot at him. At least he hoped that it was magic. A black, shadowy arrow pierced him squarely in the chest and Gismondine cried out, jerking and dropping his own weapon, reaching to try and pull the arrow from his chest.

Somewhere in his mind, he knew that it was a stupid idea to do so, if he was shot, the arrow wouldn’t exit easily but…

There was nothing there. Just some pain and then…shadows? Flames?

Gismondine stared in horror and tried to move backwards, but it was no use. The magic seemed to be draining him of strength and he slumped on the bench, looking at the Squire with a fearful, unamused expression. “...You aren’t looking for a fight? I…I call bullshit…”

s**t s**t s**t.

Welp. There went that.

Necromanteion dismissed his weapon, the magic following soon after. "In my defense, I didn't expect you to be right there." He probably should have, but didn't. "I uh... I guess we kinda got the drop on each other, huh?" The squire rubbed at his neck awkwardly. "Sorry.. You should feel back to normal soon, now that the magic is gone." He took a tentative step towards the bench. "... If it makes you feel any better... I know how you feel? Got hit with an arrow like that once, a long time ago. Though the magic was... different."

“Different?” It was the one word that Gismondine was able to hold onto, and though the magic had gone, he was still feeling…out of it. Shaky. Uncomfortable.

Finally some more of what the Squire said managed to filter through and he snorted. “Still. That’s a wonderful way to get yourself killed. Attacking a General just because they’re right there. Use your senses. You could feel where I was. I’m not hiding myself.”

He wasn’t sure that there was a way to hide himself, but that was besides the point. “You’re…lucky that I don’t want to fight either or I’d have slit your throat…now…now who are you?”

Because, he wasn’t anyone that Gismondine had met before, which meant that sadly, he wasn’t Meninx.

"Mhmm." Necro said softly. "His has like bony hands that come outta the ground and kinda just hold you there. Saw some stuff that I don't really wanna see again." He shrugged, trying not to think about it to hard. "Given he had the added bonus of me thinking I was literally walking into my death..." Necro waved a hand, leaving it up to the General's imagination.

Necro snorted with a roll of his eyes. "Eh. I've been ran through and kicked off a roof." He said flatly. "And no offense but you don't look like the kinda guy whose actually gonna follow through on that promise, so short of ganking my starseed, you've only got one other option for my 'death' and-" Necromanteion cut himself off with a huff.

Been there, done that.

"Necromanteion, Squire of Saturn. Absolute hot mess that shouldn't be let out of the house, at your service." He gave a mock little bow, rocking back on his heels. "Your turn."

Gismondine blanched at the words ganking my starseed, and looked away for a moment, but something was…niggling him.

“...Why was he attacking you? You…are a Knight yourself? Were you having an argument…? Sparing?”

It made sense but…he shrugged and finally dismissed his weapon, looking down at his hands. “General Gismondine. Negaverse.” Obviously. Clearly this Necromanteion knew that but…his own greeting was…rather lame when he said it out loud.

He wanted to ask another question, but forced it down, still unable to look up at the Squire.

"Who? My friend, or the one who ran me through. Cause those are two totally different occasions."

Necro collapsed to the ground, giving the General space as he crossed his legs and propped an arm on one. "One is basically summed up on they didn't like my answer of no, and tried to kill me." It failed, obviously. "The other is.... complicated?" It wasn't.

"It was none of those things. If anything... it was more of a misunderstanding. I was meeting up with another friend. They were trying to help me with something... The other friend came around the corner in a panic, saw me... and assumed the worst." Another shrug. He wondered, vaguely, if there was a scar, from the magic. "Honestly, can't really blame him. I probably woulda done the same thing. You don't blitz around the corner actually expecting to see what he saw. I woulda shot first and asked later too. I didn't exactly look like this back then."

Gismondine went very still and looked at the Squire for a long moment and finally, finally asked the question that was starting to burn. “What do you mean you looked different than you do now? What aren’t you telling me?”

There was almost a desperate note in his voice. There was an answer that he wanted to hear but…wasn’t sure that he would.

Had this Squire been…part of the Negaverse too? Had he gotten out? If so…what had made him choose that?

The world seemed to spin slightly, and Gismondine tried to swallow, but it felt as though his mouth were a desert. “Tell me. I want to know.”

"Think about it." Necro said, dropping his chin into his hand. "I wasn't this." He said, using his free hand to gesture at himself. "And, I don't know.. Maybe had he saw an Agent instead of me, his first thought wouldn't have been to blindly shoot. Probably would have been too worried about the friend being caught in the cross fire. But he got me instead." Necro shrugged again. "I was meeting up with Order at the time, but I wasn't what you think I was."

"So if you're not gonna slit my throat, you won't take my starseed, what's my only other actual option for death, that doesn't involve... death." He'd dance around this as long as he wanted to. Maybe he just wanted to hear the General say it.

"Come on General. You know the answer."

Gismondine shook his head. “...You were…part of the Negaverse? An agent like me? How…how did you get out? Why…”

His mouth was still dry, and without really thinking he reached into subspace and brought out a small water bottle, opening it and draining it within a few seconds. It helped but…didn’t fix the issue.

“How? How did you get out?”

There was a new edge to his voice. One that was almost desperation. “I’ve killed. I don’t like it. I don’t like who I’ve become and I just…how...”

"Not an agent." Necro corrected. "I was Negaverse though. I suppose."

"I told you. I was meeting with my friend. They were going to help me. Took them ages to convince me to get that far. Back then, I wasn't entirely sure what they were promising me back then would even work." Maybe he would have run away, had Lupu not shot him. Who knew.

"We were going to meet another friend of theirs. A princess, but we also needed a couple people more to help... 'get me out' so to speak. I was a bit of a difficult case." Necro shrugged again, before dropping his gaze to the ground. "I have too. Not in this form mind you... Sometimes I feel like I can still taste it." The Squire made a face, suddenly wishing he had his own water bottle, so that he could rinse the non existent taste out of his mouth.

Not…an agent? But what else was there?

Gismondine looked at him, clearly struggling but, at the face, he withdrew another bottle of water and threw it at the Squire. He didn’t give warning, and absently regretted it but…

“Were you…a youma?” Was that possible? Youma themselves could be saved?

Gismondine hadn’t done much with youma. He hadn’t bonded with one, hadn’t really wanted to…but.

Youma were just monsters…beyond help…

“...You know a Princess? Is that something…that’s needed? Does…did it hurt?”

Stupid questions. Useless questions…but now they just kept popping up and his filter was completely removed.

"As big as a horse... Or so I've been told. Details are a lil blurry. Ya know, being human only to turn into a literal creature of darkness for god knows how long before getting that ripped outta you and going human again, kiiiinda ******** with your head a lil bit." He blinked in surprise at the bottle for a moment, before nodding in thanks. "I was..... Best way to describe what I was is... a dire wolf? I guess?"

Uncapping the bottle, he took a sip, sloshing it around his mouth before spitting it out. "I know it's not real.. But it's still disgusting." He said, sitting the bottle down between them. "I know of a princess." How much she was willing to help... He wasn't going to say.

Necro sighed. "Yes... and No? It... It all hurts. In a sense. Order and Purification. You're losing a part of you, no matter what you do. For better or worse. You're still tired afterwards. You're still going to be sore and want to just sleep for a day at most. It's hard to explain but... It's also over faster then you think it will be." The Squire shifted, leaning back on his hands. "I told you. Back, then. I thought I was walking to my death. I hadn't heard anything about youma being able to purify. I knew my friend wouldn't lie to me, not him, but that still didn't stop the fear. It's there, no matter what side you're turning to."

Gismondine swallowed and shook his head, then nodded. And then shook his head again. “I…could…could you ask her if she…”

His mouth felt dry and he coughed when he tried to swallow again. “...If she could help me? I…I can’t do this…I can’t be this anymore…I’ve…tried rationalizing. I’ve tried being better than those around me…but I took a Starseed. I killed a girl I…I never wanted to. Never meant to…I gave it back…to a young boy he said that…he could get it back to her…but I just know she’s dead. I know I killed her. It’s been killing me...I…”

Gismondine began to tremble, his body shaking. “I wasn’t ever supposed to survive anyway. My General brought me in to die but then he got killed. I should have died that day…and all…all of my mentors are gone. I don’t know…one got out…I met her but she forgot me…I…”

His breath started coming more quickly, in short bursts. His vision blurring slightly.

“I can’t do this…not anymore…”
