Quote:
The Gargoyles (3) : Even when you thought you’d seen the last of them, it seems like you’re never really in the clear. A while back, there was an infestation of awful gargoyle creatures–and while every Star Festival had its fair share of oddities, this one seems to have introduced a permanent infestation upon the city. Maybe you see them perched on the roof, or hiding in the shadows, but not all of these grotesque creatures are satisfied with just escaping their interdimensional prison–some of them still have a bone to pick. They seem stony; some of them will watch with a penetrative gaze and never strike to attack, but some of them will dive down to target anyone who gets too close. The monsters come in an array of sizes and shapes, but they are no more than half the size of their target. Their goal is uncertain, but they will crumble into a pile of rocks and dust if struck hard enough.

This RP can be used as a battle requirement as long as there are at least two powered characters involved; you must be interacting with another player’s powered character and cannot solo this with two of your own characters. This does not count as the ‘one youma battle’ per stage for growth. This can only be used as a battle requirement once per character, but there is no limitation for how many times a player can use this prompt.

Foot tapping irritably on the pavement, Nacrite pecked at her tablet, eyes one more going to the message she’d been sent from one of the Generals.

There are reports of strange creatures. Deal with it and report back. You will be working with a partner.

A partner. It was high school gym class all over again. She hadn’t been told who or given any details beyond strange creatures. Grinding her teeth together, she read the message again and again and again. Finally, she forced herself to put the tablet away. Repeated viewings were not going to magically provide her with further information. She had to assume that her partner had been given roughly the same message and eventually they would show up. Fine. Great. Good.

From where she waited in the shadows, she wondered what these creatures could be. Not youma. If it were rogue youma, the message wouldn’t have been so vague. So, what else was there? Eyes scanning the area, she happened to look up at one of the gargoyles decorating the buildings. Ugly things. But popular if the clustering she could see was any indication. Turning away, she wondered where this mysterious partner of hers was.

Up above, she heard a soft, creaking groan, like stone shifting.

Actaea got her orders and they were weird indeed, why would they care about strange creatures? She wasn't sure and she supposed it was none of her business, at least they were getting pay and benefits working for the negaverse now and she had a team she normally worked with. She found it a bit strange that they were ordering her to work with someone else. She arrived and saw a negaverse solider she didn't know and she saw the gargoyles. She was trying to remember if she had ever dealt with magical gargoyles before but nothing was coming to mind so she ignored them.

An approaching aura that felt like warm silk to her senses alerted Nacrite to the arrival of her partner for this little mission. She hadn’t expected one of the corrupted senshi, but go off, queens. She supposed it was important to be able to work with all types. And senshi had magic, so having one along for the ride made sense in dealing with ‘strange creatures’.

She heard the weird creaky noise again and wondered just how old these buildings had to be to make so many settling noises. Were they even that old, really? So... old or really shoddily built. Suddenly, Nacrite didn’t really want to be standing there anymore. Taking a step out into the dim light, she waved to the senshi, intending to see if maybe she had been given more information on this job.

She heard the creaking sound again, only now it sounded almost like a grinding, stony screech. She began to turn, half wondering if the building was about to come down on the both of them when something hard and fast dove from the sky and crashed into her back. Falling to her knees, she stared as one of the gargoyles she’d been studying earlier shook itself off and took the sky, flying in circles overhead.

“Are you goddamn kidding me right now,” she exclaimed. “These are the ‘strange goddamned creatures’?”

How on earth were one lieutenant and a senshi supposed to deal with this?

Actaea saw the gargoyle take to the air she considered going for an attack right off the bat without introductions, but she wasn't sure if her one attack would make it come down or scare the creature off and cause them to fail their mission. She looked to the nega solider that she was working with and said "So I can attack it with my wheat reaping but then it might get scared off or I can jump up on the building and try to knock it down where you can attack it too." She suggested watching the creature circling around them near the building.

Biting back the scathing retort that so badly wanted to tear itself from her throat, Nacrite stared at the senshi for a moment, wondering if she was somehow being punished for something. So… the senshi had not only seen the gargoyle thing take fight and go into attack mode, but had chosen to not say anything or do anything?

Did all senshi think so illogically? She didn’t know and at the moment didn’t care. She just wanted this job over with. If the Generals were punishing her, she was going to show them that she couldn’t be rattled! They wanted the gargoyles dealt with? They’d be dealt with!

Wincing as her back muscles gave a twinge, the lieutenant sighed. “Well, next time you see it coming to attack me, some warning would be nice,” she rasped out, just managing to be civil. “Because having a goddamn rock monster flying right into your back really goddamn hurts!”

Nacrite pushed her hair out of her face and looked up at the circling gargoyle for a few moments. How to defeat something that wasn’t a youma and was airborne? She had no idea what a wheat reaping attack was and was afraid to ask. She did like the sound of the word reaping though, so hopefully it had some kick to it. But they were supposed to work together. And the idea of somehow knocking it out of the sky had merit. But she wouldn’t be the one on the ground waiting.

“No, you stay on the ground and wait,” she said quickly. “You’re the one with the magic and the more useful of us right now. Let me bring it down to you.”

The words were barely out before she was running for the building and throwing herself up at the fire escape. From there, it was easy enough to climb and parkour her way up until she was just above the area that the gargoyle seemed to think of as its own. Then, taking a moment to collect herself, Nacrite leapt out, somehow managing to catch onto the thing’s hind leg and hold on for dear life.

“This really suckssssss,” she wailed as the gargoyle tried to toss her off. But it was working. The gargoyle couldn’t stay in the air with her clinging to it like a barnacle.

Actaea rolled her eyes and said "I wouldn't have let it attack you." She also jumped into her own plan before Actaea could explain how her magic worked so it seemed planning was not this person's thing. She was pretty sure they were going to be angry if they started feeling her scythes slashing at her. She watched as the gargoyle started to sink with the Lts weight. "Umm, my attack is a five foot circle so if you don't want to be affected by it as well you might want to get away from that thing when it hits the ground." She already knew they didn't like her that was very clear. Things had changed a long time ago for corrupt senshis but that didn't mean they were always liked by the negaverse.

They were getting closer to the ground, which was good! But she could hear the senshi saying something about scythes and five foot circles, which could also be good! But also really goddamn bad if this wasn’t timed just right.

“Don’t magic it yet!” she yelled. She wasn’t in the best position to get out of the way, not yet. But maybe she could increase her chances of being safe, while also making the senshi’s job a little easier. Swinging her legs back and forth, she hoped to use her own weight to pull the gargoyle even more off balance. If she could dizzy it up, the senshi had a better chance of catching it and Nacrite herself would have no time to get out of the way.

And it did seem to be working, the gargoyle was having more trouble staying aloft and upright.

Okay. They could do this. She just wanted to be a little closer to the ground… and… now!

With one last swing, she launched herself from the gargoyle and hit the ground rolling.

“Now! Nownownownownow!,” she howled. It was a perfect set up, as far as she could see. The gargoyle was on the ground. She was out of scything range.

It was the best shot they had.

She listened to her and waited since she didn't want to get the Lt hurt for no reason, they had been ordered to work together so hurting each other would likely get them both in trouble. She waited till they yelled Now and then she reached out her hand and yelled "Reap what you sow!!" She summoned the circle of wheat and the spectral scythe started slashing at the stone gargoyel. She didn't think the Lt would care that she could do this one more time and she had three normal attacks she could use. Since she was a super senshi. She was hoping she had hit it hard enough with her super level attack that it would crumble to dust but she was ready to attack again if it didn't.

Reap what you sow.

Actaea summons a spectral, semi-transparent circle of wheat around up to two targets of her choice, and a spectral scythe for each field and begins to slash at the wheat--and the target(s). The scythe cannot be controlled or wielded and will appear as though it is just trying to reap the wheat. The wheat field has a five foot diameter around the target(s) and will follow them even if they run. The target(s) will feel the sensation of being slashed at while the harvest is occuring; the pain will end when the magic fades, though players can choose to take physical damage at their discretion. This magic is stronger than her basic stage, and slashes may feel more constant or deeper than before. The target must be within her line of sight, and the magic will last for 30 seconds and can be used 2 times per battle.

Laying on the ground where she’d stopped rolling, Nacrite listened and watched as the senshi unleashed her magic. She certainly hadn’t expected to see a field of wheat appear in the middle of downtown, but life was full of new experiences. And this just confirmed that senshi magic was supremely weird. But useful.

Mainly weird.

Sitting up, she crouched, ready to run in to keep the gargoyle grounded if needed. Though, judging by some of the hairline cracks she could see appearing on it where the magical scythe had hit, she rather thought that the senshi’s magic would be more than enough on it’s own. Besides, the Generals wanted a report on how all this shook down, so she could observe and make mental notes.

“Got any juice left?” she called out. “It’s cracking and one or two more good blows should incapacitate the damn thing. I wonder if it’s actually stone or just really tough…”

Moving slowly, she made certain to keep out of the five feet the senshi required to work her juju. But that didn’t mean she couldn’t learn a lot. And what she was learning right now was that gargoyles did not fare well when it came to scythe strikes.

Actaea nodded and she cast Reap what you sow again. "Yup, and I have three other basic attacks if this doesn't do the job." She said focusing on destroying the creature. Senshi got magic right off the bat, as far as she knew negas and knights got a thing that wasn't always great as a weapon to start out with, it didn't seem like a great system to her but she wasn't in charge of the universe. She wasn't in charge of the negaverse, she was just a pawn in whatever game they were playing.

Specific numbers of uses? Well, that seemed strange and a little arbitrary, but who was she to judge? Besides, it didn’t matter much in the long run beyond letting Nacrite know what she could reasonably expect from the senshi when it came to magic. Really, it was probably just a case of too many times could make them feel weak and sloppy. Like how she’d heard that teleporting for the upper ranks was extremely wearing. And teleporting was a type of magic.

Puzzle solved.

She was brought back to reality by the sound of cracking rock and she focused on the gargoyle. It could barely stand anymore under the onslaught and she noted, with immense satisfaction, that the cracks she’d noticed earlier had widened. Then, the scythe hit once more and the gargoyle seemed frozen. Then, it gave a full body shudder and just… crumbled. It started slowly at first, but then sped up as more bits and pieces of the things broke away. Soon enough, there was nothing left but a pile of dust and pebble-y rubble.

“Huh. Guess it really was stone,” she murmured. “Living rock, how interesting.”

She had her tablet out in a moment, making notes for the report she’d be drafting. She wasn’t entirely sure how to explain a few things, like how a stone creature could fly, but maybe the Generals would be satisfied with ‘that is how the gargoyles do’. Regardless, she would have to give the senshi full credit for delivering the killing blow and really? That was fine.

“This is going to be a very odd report,” she said, tapping out a few more notes before sending her tablet back into subspace. “But I believe we can truthfully say the issue has been dealt with. I’ll get things typed up and sent in tonight.”

She was ready to pack it up and head home to get some advil for her back, and maybe a hot pad too. Still, she paused and gave the senshi a brief appraisal. She had been useful after all, though Nacrite couldn’t say she liked the girl any better now. Still.

“Umm. Good job,” she finally settled on as a goodbye. Perhaps it was a bit odd, but Nacrite meant it. The senshi had done well enough once the magic came into play. She’d make sure to include that in the report as well. “Try to avoid running into any more gargoyles or weird s**t though.”

Actaea nodded they didn't need to be friends but at least they had said she had done a good job so that was something. She laughed when she said she should try to avoid weird stuff "Yea I don't see that happening during any holiday in this city."
