Quote: The Monster Under the Bed (5) : There’s a faint scratching under your bed. Maybe you’ve heard it in the nights leading up to now, or maybe it’s just started, but the scurrying noise is starting to drive you mad. What is it? A bug? A creature? Your imagination? If you try to ignore the noise, it grows louder and louder and louder, until it’s practically all you can hear. You can try to ignore it but sleep is impossible. If you’re hoping to get any rest, you’re going to have to investigate–but you’re not going to like what you find. A flashlight under the bed yields nothingness–a darkness so deep that it seems to swallow up all light. The noise is worse but you can’t see anything. But you’re already in its trap. If you try to reach into the darkness, something grabs your wrist; if you try to walk away, your ankle. Its grip is icy and sharp, like being grabbed by knives, and it pulls. No matter how hard you fight against it, it’s stronger–and it drags you into the darkness. You fall, for what feels like an eternity–and then you jerk awake, violently. Maybe it was just a bad dream. But it doesn’t explain the fading red marks from where it grabbed you. When you look again, it’s just your bed–but you have the distinct feeling that something is missing. Nelson had been waking up to awful pain and fear, and when he finally decided to ask Juniper to stay over, he felt a wave of guilt in doing so. What if whatever was happening to him…happened to Juni? Wouldn’t that…mean he was shoving his problems off onto his boyfriend? Would that make him the real monster here?
The guilt over everything had just been building and building. He…wasn’t happy. But he didn’t want to tell…what if Juniper thought that Nelson was unhappy with him. It wasn’t the truth. It was as far from the truth as someone could get but.
He was unhappy with just about everything else going on in his life.
Falling asleep was so much easier with Juniper beside him, and though the dream came again, he didn’t…fell quite so inclined to check…but. He wasn’t a lucid dreamer, unfortunately, and of course. When everything happened the same way it had been for the past several nights…
He woke up screaming, sitting bolt upright, the marks on his wrists red and angry.

Things seemed to go a little bit easier when they were together. Whether it was Nelson's place or his didn't seem to change things.. Just so long as they were together. They both had their own nightmares. He knew that. Though, his were nowhere near as bad as Nelsons. That being said, he didn't expected... Juniper shot up, startled by the screams. "Nelson...." He said softly, reaching out and touching the other man's back. "Nelson, baby. It's just a dream Honey." He said, rubbing at his eyes and scooting closer. "You're safe... We're ho-" The marks on the other's wrists finally caught his eye and Juniper paused. "What... What happened...?"

Nelson shook his head, trying to get his breathing under control, his heart to slow down. He tried to hide his wrists, seeing the marks and hearing the worry in Juniper’s voice, and all he could do was shake his head again. “N-nothing…ju…just a bad…a bad dream…I…I…”
The stuttering was worse than it had been in years, and his teeth were starting to chatter as though he were cold…it…
It didn’t feel good. Any of it. And his wrists hurt. Whatever had been grabbing him…it hadn’t been gentle…it…
With a whimper, Nelson turned and flung himself at Juniper, burying his head against the other’s chest. “...I…It…it was…a d-dream…”

Juniper wrapped his arms around Nelson, holding as tight as he dared. "Just a dream." He promised quietly against his boyfriend's hair. They'd been through worse. They could handle... whatever this was. "Can I see?" He asked, pressing a kiss to the other's head. "I won't touch if you don't want me to, but can I see your wrists at least?" Juniper wasn't sure what he could do to sooth the marks... If there was any way to. At the very least, Juniper wanted to make sure that there were no open wounds. "Not long. I just wanna make sure you're not bleeding." "We also.. Don't have to..." He said, tossing out the offer. "We can just stay here." Juniper pulled away just slightly, keeping one arm around Nelson as he dragged them both back to rest against the pillows and the headboard. "I'm sorry I couldn't keep you from getting hurt. But I'm not gonna let anything take you."

Nelson shook his head for another moment or two, then seemed to just…droop. Like a puppet with his strings cut, he held his wrists out to Juniper and closed his eyes. He was too tired to care. Too tired to keep them open. Too tired to fight it any longer.
“...I just. I don’t want to do this anymore. I hate myself. I hate all of this. I hate…what I do. Who I’ve become. Juniper…I just…I…”
He didn’t open his eyes, he didn’t want to see whatever expression he was being given. “I can’t do this anymore. I don’t want to and I can’t…and…I went to Mars…did you know that…that Knights get to go to space...”
Nelson bit back the stupid comment. That you couldn’t see Earth from Mars, but it still swam around his mind. Just like everything else.

Juniper took Nelson's hands in his, careful not to touch the other man's wrists as he gently turned them over. At least there were no open wounds. "...Do you wanna put anything on this, or do you want too leave it as is? We can leave it for the morning if you want." Might bruise, or leave a scar... But they could work with that. "I know, Love. I know." Juniper let go of his boyfriend's hands just long enough to reach out and pull the other back against him. Nelson had been through so much... And Juniper wasn't sure what he could do to help him, other then just be there with him, and for him. Juniper would be lying to himself he hadn't thought about the what if's. What if neither of them were powered? What if they were different sides? What if they where on a different side. Would things still have turned out the way they did? Would they have been stuck inside a building not once, but twice, because of freak weather conditions? Would they be losing sleep cause of God knows what attacking them? Would they have met otherwise? Juniper sighed. He didn't want to think about that particular what if. Now was not the time to think of what ifs. He had to focus on Nelson. "Did you now? I bet that was cool. Tell me about it? Who took you?" Sure, the Knights and Order senshi might be their enemies, but that doesn't mean they couldn't be civil and share experiences.

“It’s fine…it goes away after an hour or so…no big deal…” The words were out before Nelson could hide them away, and honestly…what was the point. Juniper was here. He was literally seeing these…strange…night terrors or…or whatever…and just.
“I’m going to find out how to leave…I think. I want out. He…he was a Mars Knight. He was sweet. We’ve met once before…I…was a jerk.”
Like he always was. Trying to act brave. A kitten who hissed and spat, fur all on end.
“I’m…going to find out…how to get out…I don’t want to be Gismondine anymore…”
And there. The big secret he had been hiding for…well. For far too long.
