Weeks of sea travel had left Neryssa yearning to see land once again. But she had signed herself up for this, the company on the merchant ship had been a good one. Lygs hung out more in her sleeping quarters more than on the deck, Spike had taken up residence on the mast where he could feel the sun. The salty sea air tussled at her hair as she looked out across the curling blue green waves.

"While I like the open seas, I will be glad to see some dry land for once." She commented petting the Sitara who had come to accompany her at the railing. "I am sure you are the say way?"

She looked at the Sitara as it looked back at her, then it looked away as a call from above belted out that there was land a head. Leaning out over the railing, Neryssa didn't see much of anything before small specks started to appear. It wasn't quite like the land she was used to, but at least it was something to gain her land legs back. The ship she traveled upon drew closer to the docking area, Neryssa had packed herself a few things and gathered up Lygs.

"Come on, lets go exploring a bit." She announced excitedly as she scooped the Sitara up in her arms and exited her quarters, Lygs was planted on her back as it always did. As the boat docked and orders rung out to off load cargo, Neryssa took this chance to speed walk down the gangway and into the bustling docking area, excitement buzzing about her.

Kalakaua 1

He inhaled deeply of the waterfilled air. It was so similar to Matori and yet so incredibly different. He had been born where his two renegade parents had resided in Matori, so far from here, where his Father Ikaika had been raised. His sister's brown skin would have blended better, he stuck out like a big blue thumb. However, he still felt more welcome here than he would have where Kaiko lived, for fear of running into that set of crappy grandparents, they had tried to control his blue dad to within an inch of his life. He was so happy that his parents had found each other and promptly ran away. There they had made themselves a sweet little empire. He was so proud of them. He could only hope that he did them proud.

It was their anniversary coming up and he hoped to gather some much needed spices that he could only get here as a gift. They did love their food. He giggled to himself and wondered what romantic nonsense they were carrying on with. They had been getting more adventurous now that their last set of kids had grown up a bit more. Four was a healthy number of spawn, they had said with love and kindness in their eyes, he was actually surprised they had not had more.

He had been on a few dates but nothing really solid. He was a free spirit his sister said, but he wasn't sure if she had been sarcastic or not. He wanted to see where the wind took him. Adventure was in his blood and he was never happier than on the sea. Matori however would likley always be 'home', no matter where he hung his hammock.

Spices, yes, that was why he was here. He loved the Menehune markets, all shades of browns and greens and a few pops of color. He got more than his share of odd looks. He was a half and half mix, which his bi colored eyes would instantly attest too, and he was tall like both dads, at the upper end of the height spectrum. Though there were many other tall ones here, more so than in Matori where he could pick out Aishans and Kahi's based on height alone.

Her booted feet touched the ground just past the docks as she looked around where she was. People were moving cargo while others were collecting their wares for sale. Shouldering her pack the best she could, Neryssa all but skipped past the deck hands and into the streets. Her green sleeved dress fluttered as she went, her steps were light against the ground beneath them. As she entered the more crowded market center she twirled through the people being mindful to not bump into anyone.

There was delight within her golden gaze as she took in the sights and sounds of the market. The sellers belting out their wares and prices. Groups of men and women stood in places as the discussed the prices of various things from accessories to fish that were freshly caught. There were brightly woven fabrics at one stand, smooth white shells at another. Stopping at one stand she looked at the fabrics that were laid out for everyone to see.

"What do you think Lygs. Think Mama would love something like this to make a new outfit?" She asked the Maglardilla that rested itself on her back.

While her companion never really answered her she peered up at the seller of the fabric and sought to buy a fold or two. Picking ones that were of bright blue and purple. Also a variant of green that would have looked nice as an accent to her own attire. Packing the fabric in her pack, she turned to head off to another stall. Distracted by waving at the seller she didn't see the tall hybrid that had been passing behind her.

Neryssa ran full on into the man, though bounced back to land on her toes in a bit of a curtsy. "I am so terribly sorry about that." She spoke, her face still looking towards the ground, her lively green curls falling around her shoulders to hide her face that was assuredly red with embarrassment.

Kalakaua 2

It was a bustling port market so it would make sense that people were looking more at the stalls than where they were going, he too was guilty of that. He had been looking at food, his snoot following the scent of fish breaded and fried in oil on a stick....who wouldn't want that?

He felt an impact of a much smaller body and looked down to see to his shock and delight a Matorian water tribe woman. It may seem odd but her kind were what he was actually used to seeing everywhere and inside him a small part that he hadn't known had been on edge relaxed.

"No, not at all, I barely felt it, no harm done." He soothed, she looked distressed and that made him a bit sad. She was too lovely to be distressed. Green curls cascaded over bright Matorian skin and lamp like golden eyes glowed with an inner fire from simply the loveliest face. He swallowed. She was so pretty and she was talking to him. He was happy his face was dark so she couldn't see the blush. "I'm from Matori myself, I know I don't look it, but I was born there after my parents moved." He wanted to peer around her hair but dare not invade that sacred veil of mane for her privacy.

"I thought a trip here would be nice before my parents anniversary, there are certain spices that are much easier to get here. I was heading for that stall there, when I must admit the fish distracted me." He rubbed the back of his neck in shame. She stuck out in the crowd like a blue thumb too, but she was so short she would have been able to hide a bit better than his tall self. Oh what should he do?

Neryssa listened to the one she had run full face into. She had been a bit ashamed that she hadn't been looking where she was going. Tipping her head upwards a bit to stare at the darker boy and bi color eyed man she had run into. It seemed that he was as awkward as she was. He mentioned that he barely felt a thing, well she wasn't the heftiest of the water tribe. She had seen others who had a bit more girth to them, she had a figure to watch for the profession that she intended to keep after. Straightening her posture, she shoved her dark tresses back to where they belonged and looked a bit upwards.

"Matori? I haven't been home in a very long time." She admitted, only remembering fragments of her childhood until she and her sister took the first airship to Belrea.

Looking around at the people that bustled around them, they were certainly standing just about in the middle of the road. People moved past, some muttering that they should get out of the way. Tourists should stay with their groups and such things. Neryssa, hearing a couple of the muttered comments started to fidget with the hem of her skirt. While she was used to Belrea's market places, this one was a little different. It was filled with stranger people than she was used to.

"Spice run?" She asked looking over towards the stalls he had been speaking about. "I'm just exploring around. I was on Belrea for so long that sometimes I forgot there was more out there to see." That and there was home and family she nearly forgot about... Aside from her sister she had lost sight of. Though now that she thought about it, it was probably time that she did make her way home. Perhaps she could also take some spices and other things home?

"What sort of spices do your parents like? Maybe I could get a few for my own." She smiled warmly, brushing her bangs to the side as some had slid into her face. "Oh right, introductions... Those are a thing too, Name's Neryssa."

"Right, yes, my name is Kalakaua, feel free to shorten it if you like. I'm pretty easy going and it is a bit of a mouthful." He looked too at the frowning green and brown faces that seemed less than pleased with them in the middle of the road. He nodded toward the spice stand he had been heading for. "It is just over here, there is a dark brown spice from a certain bark that is ground for meat dishes, its called ansabi and danakiu is also important its like if you crossed a citrus and a mildly hot pepper. My dads will fight over the jars when they are running low on canned danakiu. " He pointed out the spices to the vendor and told him how many of each. "Then there are these leaves, see how smooth they are, that is a kind of wax that you boil off and collect, it helps keep food from spoiling and has some agar capability as well."

He thought all the variety of spices just fascinating, he was fortunate that he had triple the amount of spice exposure, between Dads from two different cultures plus the Matorian cuisine itself. It was visually pleasing to have many spices and palatable. "Ten lard leafs as well please. Aonoki tea and marbled sour fruit and you have everything you need for a classic menehune meal so long as you add more veggies."

He was going to have to get a bag. "There is another seller too, that sells what this fellow doesn't." Just a few differences, some things were harder to come by so the vendors tended to have the basics and a few specialties. He had to admit he liked shopping and it was just that much more fun with another person.

"I thought I was being adventurous by coming here. Belrea would be a leap of faith even for me, their magic is so...fascinating." His eyes lit up, he had found his passion but that didn't mean he wasn't interested in Belrean methods. "What is it like living there? What made you go? I have the travel bug but I think Belrea might be a bit far even for me."

"Kalakua, huh?" She mused over, the name was a strange on to her. Then again this whole place was strange having only arrived maybe an hour ago? "I will just stick to Kaua, it that is alright with you." Neryssa nodded, more for herself than anyone else.

The attention was taken away from those that were around them, the sea of bodies that ever ever moving through the street and from one vendor stand to the next. Kaua lead over towards one of the spice stands and started talking about them before putting in an order with the seller? There were so many that were available and those that were spoken of... Well..

"So many spices, I never really had many spices when I was growing up." Then there was the mention of two fathers. Could someone had two parents of the same gender? She supposed that it was something that happened in other cultures? But it wasn't going to be something she would speak up about. "From the sounds of it, there is great competition in your household."

Neryssa followed Kaua as he went to another stand, explained some things about the items that he was purchasing. She listened with interest, though she did get distracted once and a while when she heard possible music in the distance. Her attention only came back when the mention of Belrea was brought up.

"I actually just came from there." She pipes up. "My sister and I traveled there when the first airships came to Tendaji. Crashed right outside the festival we were visiting with our brother." She thought back, it had been so long ago now. "The land is an interesting one, so many people there and many different races. The music ain't that bad either, few places had space for dancers we well."

He looked over and saw her distracted perhaps by the music in the background and then she straight up mentioned dance. Hmmm.

"Do you like to dance?" He glanced down at his pile of spices. He was an excellent dancer, he had always been asked by his sisters to step in and be the guy, though some of them were more than capable of playing the roll they would giggle and whine and he would cave and have a good time anyway. Now he enjoyed it quite a lot..and to maybe dance with someone who wasn't a sister...she was short but he could probably make it work.

"I have almost all the spices I need if you want to go and check it out?" His eyes sparkled. He could think of nothing better than to take this lovely matorian belrean flower for a round on the floor..but if she didn't want to dance with a complete stranger that so far had talked her ear off about spices well, who could blame her. No skin off of his shoulders.

He was very much a go with the flow kind of guy. "Belrea sound fascinating and scary, so much reliance on contraptions and magic where magic is pesky in its own way. I'm glad I found my niche." Which happened to be deep water type magic, very scary to most, especially sailors who regarded the ocean with suspicion anyway. Though he couldn't blame them either.

"I mean, you did have to be careful to where you walked. You didn't want to accidently get hit by something." She thought back to her experiences with the contraptions that roamed about Belrea with the help of their operators. "I have a little bit of magic of my own. It's very little, but it can be useful in a pinch."

Also was she that obvious with her distractions? Perhaps she was, with a little bit of wilt in her fin like ears, Neryssa looked away from Kaua her pallid face darkening with blush. Fidgeting with the hem of one of her sleeves, she looked back towards the taller man. "Dancing is my life really. It has been something that I have done since I was little." She says looking away again, hearing the distant music.

"I am also traveling to learn the dances from other cultures to perform to others in other places." She cast her gaze towards the ground as if it seemed like a silly idea. It was one of the reasons she had traveled to Belrea. To her sister she thought it was for the music, for her it was the dancing. "But I would love to go and see who is playing. The sounds make my feet want to move."

"Magic is wonderful, I was just able to start using mine as well! It is much harder to do than I initially thought but as I am told it gets easier with practice just like everything else so long as we are working to improve in a timely manner."

He leaned over to peer at her face that she was trying to keep away from him.

"Why fight the call to something that you so desperately want to do, I will do my best to keep up, I have been dancing since my early teens, not as long as you but it is the most fun form of cardio besides swimming."

She needed to break out of her well crafted shell a bit and live. He wanted to live every day of his own to the fullest.

"Oh ho! New dances! Well I know moakai and menehune dances only but I could teach them to you if that would be of interest? I'm not perfect but more than passable."

"Follow the music!" Nothing had ever sounded more right either. He hadn't chosen dance as a career but well magic was useful, dance was too but it couldn't summon aquatic creatures to help him on the high seas, if it could he did not know the proper choreography.

"I would love to learn what you know. I picked up a few things in Belrea. Of course I know some from Matori, haven't danced those in a while." She set to pondering when the last time she had. "It certainly is a way to keep the limbs limber and spirits alive."

A grin crossed her lips as Kaua at the mention of just going to the music. Perhaps he would come to regret those words? "Then lets go!" She reached out to grasp his hands and pull him towards the sounds of the music.

There was a skip in her step as she at one point let go of Kaua, she spun and danced around the people as she wove her way through the crowds. Her skirts and long sleeves swish and swirl about her as she moved until she found the square where a small group were playing. There she stopped at the edge of the crowds that were gathering to listen.

Not exactly waiting for Kaua, whom she hoped had been right behind her, she was after all a bright fish in a sea of darker fish. Setting down her pack, her companion in the ground. She pulled a long thin scarf from her packs. Wrapping it around her shoulders, down her arms to the bangles that looped around her wrists. The group ended their song before picking up another. Taking a spot in the center of the cleared space, Neryssa grinned, her eyes half closed before she started moving. The long ends of the scarf waving through the air like waves of water as she moved.

"I know a few of the Matori ones, we do go out sometimes." He grinned. He was yanked away toward the music and something in him thought that that was the exact right path he was supposed to take, she seemed to love it so much. He did his best to keep up, she was short compared to him and fast as heck.

He caught up to her eventually and she was already going. He had been hoping to ask for a dance but he thought he still might be able to. For now, he stepped out onto the floor and joined the festivities.

His feet whirled smoothly to the beat and the traditional dance, she was doing really well for a new person, she couldn't have much time to watch but dancing seemed to be in her soul. It was wonderful to see the smooth scarf moves.

Eventually the song ended and as another was about to begin, he offered her his hand. "May I have this dance?" This one required a partner and it was obnoxiously fun.

The dance finished her ribbons fluttered down around her. Her heart was beating quickly as her breath came in pants. She didn't know how she could dance to the beat that was quick like this one. As the musicians adjusted their positions, giving everyone a bit of a breather. Neryssa turned and looked towards Kaua who was standing beside her. She had vaguely noticed that he had joined the fray.

"That one was a rush." She said as she glanced at the others that were stepping out onto the open space.

Her fin like ears twitched as the music was starting to pick up once again. The tone was that of a slow dance, her soul was to those that got the heart racing. As she looked back towards Kaua as he was offering her a hand. She was sure her face was to turn red as she reached out with her smaller hand to take his.

"You may." Neryssa smiled. The length of ribbon around her shoulders shifting slightly in the breeze,

He was pleased that it was a slow dance as it would make it easier for them to catch their breath, and this one traditionally had a lot of twirls to it which was plain fun. He was honored that she would accept one from him, but it made sense too as both of them obviously loved the freedom of expression that came with it.

"It was a rush, I'm glad this one is a bit slower, though I do love the fast ones." He would dance until he dropped given the chance when the music was good. But having slower songs occassionally helped with the stamina needed.

A lock of hair fell over one eye as he bent his head down. She was tiny compared to his frame but that let them do a few nifty lifts that had some showstopping force to them. Unbeknownst to him a little bubble of respect had formed around them as they were the belles of the ball so to speak. But to him there was only her, the base drum beat and the sweet melody overlay twining around their dancing forms. He was having the time of his life. Who knew that he would find a fellow Matorian so far from home.

One, two, three and spin. One, two, three and spin. These were the words she sounded off in her head. As Kaua spun her through the dance, she went up onto her tip toes. Being smaller than the majority of the population of the town. The locals mostly, Neryssa was a bright blotch of color among those who bore the darker tones. Even her dance partner reminded her of a large shadow at dusk. As he leaned over, his hair falling over his eyes. Neryssa couldn't help but to smile.

"Slow dances do have their perks when it comes to the tempos. My sister is a bard, I always enjoyed dancing to her flute playing." She said as she spun to place her back against his chest. A few steps later she was facing him again. "I haven't seen her since we parted ways in Belrea. I do wonder how she is doing. If she has met anyone who has charmed her heart or perhaps the other way around."

The tune of the music that radiated through the crowd gave Neryssa the energy to show off a bit. At the times she was lifted from the ground she swung her arms out to wave the ribbons before her feet met once more with the ground. The people around them almost seemed to fade away as she danced with Kaua.
