 Ushiruin 1
His cousin had left him word among the birds to come to this particular tavern, The Salt and Hog, thus named for its proximity to the dock and its most excellent pork based dishes. The note had not explained much as was the way of the young shadow master. Most things worth saying were best said in person.
He also knew that when Ultear picked up on something it was usually just the tip of the mushroom. Thus he never ignored an alert from him. It was wise to listen to the wise and Ultear had very good hearing and a crafty, disguise riddled modus operandum. He too made sure he did not look like himself at the pub; cowl, cloak and dagger. He made note of other customers around him and his eyes lit on a flicker of motion. That then was his cousin. He bit his tongue to keep from smiling. Ultear looked nothing like himself but he had known Ushiruin right away. Ushiruin figured he had not changed his gait and that had been a dead givaway that he was not some briney old sailor himself.
Ushiruin sat at an empty table and settled in to play his part.

Ultear 1
He reached out and moved his cup to his lips for a sip. It was non alcoholic as being tipsy on information gathering was really not recommended. His eyes traced the people who came in the door. Finally the one he had been waiting for entered. The only giveaway was the fluid grace in contrast with what appeared to be a crotchety cloaked old man. Ushiruin was here.
He flicked a hand to give himself away, he was dressed to the nines also cloaked with a touch of shadow work to make him all but unoticable to the untrained eye and even a few of the sharp ones.
He stamped down a sigh. Now would come the long bit. The waiting for words that had been hinted at a night ago. He hoped that the idiots would bring up their plan again, perhaps fine tune it. It had not been pleasant and he was grateful that he had been there to catch it the first time. Blood ran deeper than salt water for his family but not for everyone else.
A set of thugs a few tables over rattled the wood for more ale, perfect. The drunker they were the more mistakes they would make and the looser their tongues.

Ushiruin 2
Sure enough the nefarious group started to talk, at first they just brushed against the subject and looked around but finding no one decidedly knightly around them they proceeded to talk more candidly.
"Yeah, they say she is around here somewhere, and they say she has a son, but she herself would never be an easy mark so we might be better off going after the kid. He is still prentice age, our other problem being that that place they live at is so well guarded and they say they let all the vicious critters out at night."
The speaker was a hybrid thug, a talean and matori cross with squinty eyes and a pronounced limp but he appeared to be the leader of this little gang. Pity he couldn't feel the eyes on him. Ushiruin and Ultear watched where they could and listened always. It sure sounded like these were pirates caught up with Kechiri at last. And they were right Kechiri would be a very hard mark, but so would anyone else in their family.

Yup this was what he had heard the other night, they were still trying to be slightly subtle but it was obvious to those that lived here who they were talking about, Uncle Kiyelt did let the nasty critters out at night and delighted in doing so.
Their home at the beast ranch was a strong hold and few of ill intent dared to enter there, especially after the incident with Elaxi a long time ago. That should never have happened and most unfortunately Kechi was Elaxi's sister and had never ever forgotten. She had relaxed a little in the interveining years but she had known that this was just such a possibility, however these folks looked like medium grade dangerous and nothing more, if there were not four of them, thick and heavily muscled he and Ushiruin would have taken them out, but Ushiruin's magic was a bit better when he was closer to water, leaving Ultear to do the heavy lifting, both were good in a physical fight but the information they held now was more important to get back to the rest of the family.
If they handled this right it would go off without a hitch he was quite sure. But it was important to follow the right steps or they may find themselves in hot water to be sure.
