Quote:
The Face in the Moon (4) : The night seems darker than it should be, but it’s been a cloudy day so it’s not too surprising, unless you’re also factoring in the strange sensation that someone is watching you. You won’t see anyone if you look around, but the longer you’re outside, the more intense and unnerving things become. And then–if you look up–you see why. The moon that you know has been replaced with a devilish face, with wide, piercing eyes and a devilish grimace. No matter where you go, it’s watching you–and it even seems like it’s unusually large in the sky. Maybe others around you have noticed the same thing–or maybe it’s just you. Maybe it’s in your mind, but if you stare up at the face for too long, you begin to hear a low growling, or a shrill static. Its eyes are hypnotic and fearsome. Whether it disappears behind the clouds or the horizon, at some point it is gone. The strangeness fades with the moon, but there’s still no real explanation. It doesn’t photograph, and nothing about it can be recorded. You just have to hope it was a one time nightmare.

Magion was walking down the street, hand in hand with Bifrost and humming a little song she remembered from before. She hadn’t gone up to her Homeworld in a while, but honestly? She was happy here now. She would go home! Absolutely would go home, but there was nothing she could really do to fix anything at the moment, so she was enjoying life where there…well.

Was life. And good food.

And Mary.

Bifrost had quickly become her very best friend, and she looked forward to every day with her. It was so nice ot have someone to talk to, and to hold hands with…and who got her so many glowsticks to wear!

She was wearing one as a necklace right now, in fact and as she looked to the Knight she said what she said on an almost daily basis. Even though it hadn’t actually happened again. Yet.

“Bifrost! We should go to that club again! I want to dance with you! I love dancing with you!”

Bifrost watched Magion skip and swing their joined hands in a reserved sort of awe. Magion's world was all but dead, there was no guarentee that anyone survived the Chaos on her world, and yet here she was. Full of energy and joyful. Even after watching Bifrost have the largest emotional breakdown she'd had in... years, Magion still stuck by her side and beamed smiles at her.

Warmth settled in her chest watching the girl beam at her. It was an odd feeling. Well, maybe not odd. Just a feeling she didn't think she'd let herself feel before. Magion's joy was infectious though. Yes, joy. That's all it was.

Bifrost let out a chuckle, giving her an amused look. "We can dance at home, Magion," came her usual reply. Going to the club was... tiring? Exhausting? Mentally draining to not suspect literally every employee of nefarious things? It was more enjoyable to dance at home, where she didn't have those worries.

Yet...

"... But okay. We can go, but not.... powered up...." she said, voice trailing off as they came to gap between the buildings and the moon caught her eye.

It grinned at her, full of teeth and malice. It watched her.

What... in the.... world....

“I know we can dance at home, and I like dancing at home…but we don’t have fishes at home!”

It was the same argument she brought up every time, and this time when she got a yes! A real yes!. Magion gave a laugh and threw her arms around Bifrost, hugging her tightly. “Thank you! Thank you thank you!”

Of course, the fact that her friend was distracted by something wasn’t difficult to see, and she pulled away and stared upwards, trying to figure out just what Bifrost was seeing and…

“...That’s different, isn’t it? Is it supposed to look like that?”

The hug brought a laugh to Bifrost, even as she was staring at the moon and she shook her head slightly. Magion was so very easily entertained and pleased, it constantly surprised her. To have that much pure joy in your body, had to be an alien or ancient thing. Earth broke all that joy out of you early on.

Green eyes glanced at Magion and she shook her head, serious this time. "No, I can't say I've seen it look like that before, even during past spooky seasons..." she said, before pushing her awareness to her internal radar and taking stock of what was around them. She felt the general flares of power across the city as senshi, knights and agents all went about their evening patrols, but nothing that seemed super out of the ordinary.

When she opened her eyes, the moon was still there, still grinning at them. Maybe it was just.... the usual weirdness around holidays here.

"Destiny City has this odd phenomenon where around some of the larger holidays - like Halloween or during the summer or around Yule and New Years - things... get... weird. Like this. I don't remember if it did this last year, to be honest." If Magion was going to be here on Earth for the foreseeable future, she might as well be aware of the, well, weirdness of the City.

"No one has really figured out why this stuff happens, but it's mostly harmless. Mostly, I say, because one year there was a whole monster made of wisps that attacked the city at the end of the festivities? And sometimes the mysterious encounters do lead to bruises and scrapes. But no one has died. That I know of."

The weirdness was making her ramble.

Also, was something growling?

Magion nodded sagely, as though she completely knew and understood what Bifrost was saying. She didn’t. But she wanted to act as though she did. “I don’t know what a wisp is.” That was the first thing she thought of saying. It…it was the truth, at least. She wasn’t sure what a ‘whole monster made of wisps’ was…and clearly Bifrost knew!

There was one thing that Magion was sure about this planet. And that was that Mary, that Bifrost was the wisest person here.

Lucien had been great! But he was a Mauvian and they were always smart and knowledgeable…but Mary? Mary just knew everything. And she was beautiful and kind…

“Maybe the Moon simply ate something bad. It looks as though it has a mouth…do you think that could be the issue?”

"Sometimes you can find these little wisp creatures? They're sort of like floating balls of light, so I'm told. I haven't seen one of the little creatures myself," replied Bifrost with a small shrugged. Contrary to what Magion might think, Bifrost didn't actually know everything; she'd just been around long enough to know the goings on in Destiny City and its quirks. Probably had something to do with why so many people were reborn on Earth or the Negaverse having the Rift here somewhere? Probably both.

Or just cosmic ********.

"I don't think eating something bad would make it grin like that though. No that's more... sinister looking?" She looked the moon's face over, analyzing it. Was it... growling? "I think it's growling more than eating something, unless when moons eat they get all grinny?"

The growling grew more distinct the longer she stared at it.

At least it didn't seem to be falling closer and closer to the earth.

Magion nodded slowly, still not quite understanding. But if Bifrost said it was a thing, she believed her! “Maybe…it ate something bad…but it’s very glad that whatever it ate is gone? That could be a reason.”

Most likely not, but still…she was trying! She didn’t know…Magion didn’t have a moon or any kind of object that was close enough to matter. Not like this was. It was interesting. And she had heard stories about Earth’s Moon when she was younger. People liked it and it was fancy. That was about as far as her knowledge had gone but…

Her toe kicked something and Magion looked down, curious. It hadn’t sounded like a rock, and it made an almost pleasant clicking sound as it rolled, and she brightened, leaning down to pick up the small cube of…whatever it was.

“Bifrost! It’s so pretty! Look at–”

And then. Suddenly. Magion had vanished completely.

Bifrost turned to look at Magion, to see what she had, only to find her no longer there. At all.

"Magion? Magion!?"

She was left there, turning on the spot, looking for her friend.
