Laeradr really was not a fan of corgis. Not anymore. Once upon a time they'd been the cutest little dogs on this planet, and then one had to be a freaky snakey unicorny youma that tried to bite him and shred him to pieces, and he just couldn't let go of it. Nope. Corgis were now an animal he gave a wide berth to. He just couldn't help it. Even so, he was out here, enjoying the slowly cooling weather, patrolling the streets and trying to keep an eye out for trouble. He kept getting distracted, though. Stores were slowly starting to decorate for Halloween, and he really wanted to hand out candy this year again—he had like, this whole thing planned, and he just couldn't wait. Right. Off-track again. And that was, of course, when the youma spotted him and lunged out of the darkness. "Eep!" Learadr yelped, backing away quickly. "Oh, you've got to be ******** kidding me, bro!" It was another corgi-like youma, only this time instead of being fused with a snakey sort of deal, it had a scorpion butt. Great. Just great. Why him, Lord?! Why him?! He swiped at it with his cane, not quite hitting it just yet. "Bad dog," he scolded.

Lanting knew that it was for the better that he and Corvina sometimes patrolled separately, but the whole thing made him anxious when they did. Not because he was worried about Corvina getting into physical danger--though he wasn't entirely sure how much his hardheaded space boyfriend would respect the danger a Negaverse General posed, sometimes--but more because he worried about Corvina Dealing With People. Especially given his unabashed disdain for the past incarnations of certain Senshi (Murikabushi) and Lanting's ongoing concern that there might yet be depths unplumbed to that particular....thing.
Not that anyone else was likely to awaken the same level of disdain as the Senshi of the planet his shitty deadbeat mom came from, but still.
Anyway, that wasn't the point, not really. The point was: they were both out and about and doing things, separately, and that was probably good. Even if it stressed Lanting out a little.
There was the sound of a shout, not too far away, and Lanting jolted, whirling towards it. It sounded like someone in danger--and he could feel a fellow Squire nearby, so maybe it was them? And maybe they could use backup. Or healing. Lanting had both, now.
He ran over, skidding himself ot a halt as he took in the Situation--one Squire, also wielding a cane (nice, nice) fighting a weird.....corgi.....scorion...youma.
Lanting hated the ******** Negaverse.
"Got you some backup!" He called, and he swung his cane, calling on the new spell he'd found on his Wonder. A ball of leaves and petals flew out of it, slamming into the little beast and swirling around it with razor-sharp edges.
Oh yeah. He was so cool. And so good at Knight things.Quote: Lanting swings his weapon at a single target within 20 feet of him. The corgi snarled at Laeradr again, readying for an attack, when the sound of a different approach made it jerk its head to lock on to its new victim—just a moment too late. The cane whapped the youma right on the chin and it howled, scorpion tail lashing out to stab uselessly at the cane—its short tail could never make the reach to make a direct hit on the Ida Squire. The leaves and petals then started slicing it up, and the youma howled, trying to snap at them, only ending up with lacerations on its tongue, and then— Laeradr finally snapped out of it and bonked the thing on the head, very hard, with his own cane, and it crumbled away to dust. "Holy s**t," he breathed, heart racing as he leaned on his cane and summoned the energy to muster a grin to his new companion. "Thanks for the backup, man. I cannot stand corgis."

Good. The youma was dealt with, smacked by a pair of Squires and some fancy new magic. Lanting flashed his new Knight buddy a grin, and then it disappeared just as quickly as it appeared.
"Wait, corgis, really? Like, that was obviously an awful demon beast, but regular corgis are just cute little guys." He made a puzzled noise. "Do you, like...run into a lot of evil demon corgis? Because that's very much a two nickels sort of situation, if you ********, he hoped this guy understood what he was referencing. If this Squire was offline, Lanting was going to look like a total freak. Which he was, sure, but he didn't need to make it so obvious, so quickly.
"Uh, anyway, I'm Lanting! Of Ida! Nice to meet you! You're okay, right? If you need it, I can heal you."

"Just two," Laeradr said with a tired grin as he continued to catch his breath. "But that's enough for me to not want to hit 'three is a pattern', you know? If I ever got up to three nickels then we'd have a serious problem." He stretched his limbs and took a deep, steadying breath. "I'm Laeradr, of Neptune." He spun his cane around dramatically. "I appreciate the offer, but I think I'm okay. Nothing some sleep won't help, anyway. Unless your magic works for headaches not caused by battle? I don't know, I've never been magically healed before, I don't think."

Lanting frowned, but nodded. "Okay, that's fair, three would be a very bad number of demon corgis to run into."
He paused.
"......And that is a brand new sentence, I think."
At least, he hoped so. if other people also had experiences with demon corgis, Lanting did not want to know about them. Ignorance was bliss, probably, in this case.
"I, uh, don't think my magic can help with that, no. But you're otherwise okay? Just tired?" He wanted to advise the other Squire to get some sleep, but that probably counted as pretty high level hypocrisy, coming from him.

Laeradr snickered a little at that. Brand new sentence, indeed. "Yeah, pretty much every night I go outside looking like this, there's a brand new sentence involved," he agreed. He nodded to Lanting's question, raising his right hand. "I solemnly swear I'm just tired, bro. But seriously, thanks for the concern. Glad we could dust a youma tonight. Now I can try to sleep a little more soundly."

"Okay," Lanting said. He had to trust this other Squire to know his own limits, right? That was how being cool about this kind of thing worked?
"Then stay safe, Laeradr, and I hope we run into each other again! With less demonic corgis, maybe." He gave a little bow, because it felt like the right sort of flouring, and turned to leave.
This would be a fun story to tell Corvina, when he got home.
