Well, he had been caught on that last endeavor there, but his sore bum had not deterred him nearly as much as his parents perhaps had thought. He had had that taste of freedom, as brief as it had been he had sunk his teeth in and he had liked it. So naturally, the next chance he got he had snuck away again. His spirit was unbent, unbroken, unchanged. Likely he would always be a rebel, it was more fun this way and the reward was more than worth the risk. He had performed well in every other aspect. He did all of his homework, well without complaint. His chores were always done, he helped others when they needed it or asked. So sneaking away was kind of the price for all that do goodery. So long as they did not take his pets away then there was no punishment that mattered all that much. Extra chores to get done? Sure. A hide tanning? Well the discomfort was temporary and he had seen how bratty the kids that had 'yes' parents were. It didn't help them in the long run.

It was nearing harvest and he was tired perhaps but satisfied with how things were coming along. His produce was fat and some had started to ripen. The first fruits had come off the tomato vines and graced his plate. He enjoyed finding the right recipes for each individual. They had varied flavors among colors and indeed among particular family lines.
His pumpkins though, he was so excited about them! They seemed to like the sun and given enough water were more than happy to pump up their fruit to giant proportions. There was one big blue one that he was so excited to wrap his arms around. It would go great on the table. He smiled at the thought. Where the other fruit from the other seventeen plants he had would go, he wasn't sure. He just knew that he would always grow pumpkins after this. They and his tomatoes were marathon growing sprinters. Peppers really depended on the season. They were divas. He was rustling around in the massive garden outside his place. Weeding was ever present though not as bad now that the pumpkin leaves were so large.

He was to his mind, being much more stealthy than last time. He checked the angle of the sun, the direction of the wind, kept his foot prints as light as possible and snuck through many many bushes...in fact some of the bushes were starting to look an awful lot like pumpkins. Oh darn, he was in someone's garden...on one hand that might be good practice and a good place to hide. He made sure not to move too many stalks but pumpkins were vines and these were a bit convoluted and intertwined. It wasn't as easy as four legged critters made it look.
He tumbled out of one area only to look up and see a hybrid male that was vaguely familiar..he thought maybe this was Nykinae's boyfriend and therefore his cousin. Hmmm.
"Hello cousin, just looking for pests and such and working on my stealth skills," he grinned cheesily. "Hows it hanging?"

He heard a rustling then a thump, and his pumpkin patch produced a youngling. Well that would be a funny story to tell Ny. He hoped that it would make her laugh.
"Ho there cousin, you are not what I expected from the garden this morning my friend." He helped one of the younger ones from the other familial branch and dusted him off. "There halfwise presentable now. Can I er help you?" He grinned. This kid was adventurous just like he was. He had wandered for a long time between Jauhar and Matori in his youth but had settled here as it was hard to wander when you had a yard full of plants that needed your attention.
"Escaped again did ja? They would be better off to let you out with suitable companionship. Don't look at me like that, I didn't mean me. I have responsibilities here." He gestured at the garden. "If I'm not here I won't be able to handle problems when they come up."

"You know, I heard you were the cool cousin." He waggled his eyebrows at the much older male. But hopefully still young enough to have a touch of mischief still about him. Though it was a little hard to tell because of the bright yellow eyes. Pupils would have made him a bit easier to read. People didn't lie nearly so well with their bodies as they did their words though. He seemed mostly chill but Undine could detect and edge somewhere deep down, the man was tough.
"What say we take advantage of this opportunity and get to know each other. I'm sure if Ny has put up with you for this long that you truly are family." He winked at Syaa. He hoped he would be his new favorite cousin but one never knew right off the bat. He was coming to realize just how huge his own family was...all from the children and their loves from two adopted sisters..one of Water and one of Ice. They were ever expanding and welcoming new comers into the fold.

Oh! This kid was good for his age. He assumed that came from his Mother, she had always been super smart, though he was sure his Dad wasn't too shabby either. He had to admit his days had been busy but boring. He was up for an adventure.
"In order to ensure your safety," he grinned," I will accompany you." There was really nothing else to do. "What did you have in mind Undine?" He was sure that was this kid, Rorim was more blue, this kid had ombre hair like he did. He was hopeful that one day Nykinae and he would have children, but he wasn't one to push, he wanted to build his business a bit more so that he could help support them. She was his everything. Besides everyone else around seemed to be getting pregnant, he smiled. When was their turn?
"Just let me clean up a bit here and we can be on our way." He was loath to leave the garden a mess so he put away his tools and washed his hands of most of the dirt. "I need a break anyway harvest season is always busy."

"Well I am always up for a treasure hunt, and then maybe shopping to spend the treasure." He looked around the garden, pleased that his new..friend was willing to get up to shenanigans with him. "What is your currency? We could see if they have new..plants?"
He was after shiney things to get jewellery and such or maybe a new leather bound journal to write his adventures in. "Do you have any familiars?" Animals were always of interest to him and Syaa had enough plants it might be fifty fifty if he had pets on top of that. It was a huge garden like Kylaelya down the road had he couldn't imagine weeding half of it never mind the full thing.
"I uh see why you don't get much time away from here in the fall, I bet spring is also busy." He shook his head. "I don't know if I have the patience for gardening." He examined some of the plants, "Maybe I could try growing a tomato..are they hard?"

"No I do not have any familiars yet."
"Tomatoes are some of the best plant companions, so long as you keep them watered and give them a bit of fertilizer early on they will grow happily for you all season, pumpkins too, though they need a bit more fertilizer."
They set off for a place where a battle between merchants had happened a long time ago, there were rumors that treasure could still be found if you managed to dig in the right place and it was always a good idea to search the nearby streams as they cut through long buried caches as they eroded their banks over time. He thought that this was an excellent adventure. A small part of him did not want to leave his garden but it had to be done and it was good to have a break sometimes from the everyday. It was almost the time of rest and reorganization too. He was excited for the break and to have more time with Ny.
"Alright start digging, he handed the kid a hand shovel, I hear like you did that there was treasure here, rarer now as the battle was a while ago but better to find something..even if its just a cool rock." He had some coin for the shopping, he could spoil the kid a bit.

They found a few coins in their hunt and he was satisfied. He might not have made it to a journal purchase but he could get some sweet things instead. His siblings would like that, the whole family had a bit of a sweet tooth nearly.
He also had a bit of savings that he could get a bracelet with or something, fashion and looking good were part of his modus operandum. At least a part of his style that he wanted to improve.
They mosied over to the town market and got lost among the stalls. He found a necklace that he really liked and had just enough to purchase it. Syaa ended up giving him a bit of change for some candy. And he thanked the man profusely, he didn't have to do that, he was not family. Well, he was but not by blood.
He was happy with his loot and he thought they were probably going back pretty soon, Syaa would have to take him back to his actual home not just the ranch.

He had bought a thing or two for the people at the ranch and a lovely boquet for Ny. He figured it might brighten her day. They were not flowers he was familiar with but there had been some seeds from a favorite variety that he had lost one way or another over time and he was happy to be in posession of them again.
Overall it had been a successful day and they had been able to get to know each other more. He was excited to see the young man that Undine would become and he was sure he had made a friend of the youngling. He looked a bit nervous going back to his parents and Syaa smiled. Every kid worried about that when they had been mischeivous, at least he was safe and that was what would matter to his parents. Though he might be a bit grounded for a while.
He was a cool kid regardless. "We had better start back now, the sun is starting to dip."

They started back...there was an odd stillness in the air that he found quite disturbing for some reason, like there was a large predator so dangerous that the birds did not want to be found either. He squinted, the sun had fallen further and it was dusk, that time where lines blurred as one's eyes switched from color to shades of gray and black.
"Do you uh hear that?" He nervously dropped back to where Syaa was, the extremely tall hybrid was like a great pillar of comfort..surely nothing would be dangerous enough to take his great defender...right?
"I don't like the quiet...its disconcerting..." He clutched tightly at his stuff, warding off the bad feels. "I just don't...like it." He hoped that the male understood. Perhaps it was the ranger and warrior blood in his veins but there was something very wrong about this road and he could not put a finger or name to it except 'very bad'.

The youngling was spot on, and sensitive to boot. They were not alone evidently, but this was the only road back so they would have to face whatever it was or risk panicking both halves of the family with their absence and that was scary in itself considering the amount of fire power the family could collectively call upon.
"Aye, I sense that too, I'm not sure if it is and animal or perhaps brigands looking to accost travellers. That is right, stay close to me, allow me to move but dont get too far out of reach unless someone comes through my defense." He would lay his life down to defend the kid..he even sort of looked like him which was all in Undine's favor. A cousin a nephew a son of their family, it all amounted to protection and love, otherwise why band together in such a large group?
He took deep steadying breaths and readied his plant magic. The trees and local vines were now paying attention to the humming magic coming from the elementalist. He was a good fighter physically.
A twig snapped nearby and he hissed threateningly and in a seven foot tall hybrid it was indeed intimidating.

They emerged from the shadows, a gang of three. Two males and a female, all with distinctly mixed heritage, shiny hybrids that had open minded parents but not the greatest parenting skills based on what their children had chosen as a career. And to set themselves upon a youngling no less. True cowards! They would not get his treasures!
He gripped his stuff fiercely and glared at them. He would let Syaa do the talking if anyone had a way to get them out of this it was the tall one. Undine was better at inciting rage than disarming it.
The girl cackled like a hyena and the men stood stoic until the leader spoke, it was the woman. "What have we here?" She had a high grating nasal voice which made him scrunch up his nose. It was like his fathers singing but without the base rumble of a male voice which just made it worse. Don't get him wrong most ladies had lovely voices this was just not one of them unfortunately for his ears.
He shuddered but held fast to his position. He had the presence of mind to check behind them. He had watched hunters of all species all his life.

He braced. This wasn't good but it did not appear according to his planty friends who could see but not see, that there were not any more than three. He had advantage on reach and they had no ranged weaponry which could only be to his favor.
He edged more firmly in front of Undine who did not appear as scared as one would expect a youngling...more hoardy over the items.
"We want no trouble but I will give it to you should you come any closer, I need not mention this to the authorities." He would try the safest route first.
The woman shook her head smugly. "What cha got? Looks like we were at the market for a little shopping were we not?" The girl was not that old and looked to be of mixed decent with more than a touch of Aishan blood, judging by the eyebrows but she unlike Syaa had opted for the travel size of the earthling blood that ran in her veins.
"None of your business." Syaa hissed.
The three lunged coming at him from three different directions.
He yelled desperately in a very loud rumbly diety like voice. "Do you know who we are? Do you know which family calls us home?"
That made them pause.
"Tell them Undine."

"We belong to the great Beast Ranch in Matori.. if you pick a fight with us, you pick a fight with the Ninyelt clan and its other branches..plus their allies which are many in number. Can you verse beast and man, synergized?" He glared hotly and arrogantly, as proud as any noble, though neither of his parents were they were rising in the hierarchy of Matori to be all but.
"Dare you risk your lives?" He quirked a brow up as if he had 25 more years to his name. "Do you die later, accost us now?" Big words for a small man, but intimidation was their best defense at the moment.
He was proud to be who he was. He loved his family, loved his world and be darned if these people would jeopardize that. Jepardize their lives and not suffer the consequences...aka his family and Syaa's half of the same family. A huge family, a powerful family, a family known for rage and revenge. A family in good standing with the community, if people had not bought critters off them they had definitely heard about them if they had been in the region long enough.
"Run." He advised the brigands.
