Sylvie didn’t really know many places to eat in Destiny City, but there was a little place that she had found, and liked quite a lot. It was a small, cozy cafe and had a wonderful amount of hot drinks…which…to be honest was nicer when the weather was cold, but she was quite partial to Hot Chocolate, even when it was warm outside.
“I enjoy this place, it was…wonderful when the weather was colder, but the treats and the drinks are wonderful. They bake their own bread, and it often comes out warm…”
She gave a small smile. “My world…is frozen. Icy. Cold...upon coming here…all I desired was warmth. And I was pleased to find it in abundance.” The smile grew slightly wry as they sat down at a table. “...Though. I must admit…the heat is…just this side of too much, I think. I will be happy for cooler weather to return…”
Sylvie reached out and took hold of the little placard with the specials on it. “This is what they have for today, oh! Flavored lemonades!”

Aria was always a little wary of restaurants, because although she was on Earth and things were different here, she generally wanted what she ate to have as low of an energy cost as possible, and she still staunchly refused to eat animal products. Lemonade would be fine, though, she thought. “Strawberry flavored, please,” she told the person taking the orders. “I was not used to the weather on Earth either,” she said. “The seasons? I had only read about it in books before, but I love to watch them. The next season, fall, is my favorite.” It was cooler than summer, but there would hopefully still be enough warmth for Sylvie to enjoy.

“What’s it like?” Sylvie watched her friend with slightly excited eyes. “I arrived during the festive season, and so have not experienced Fall...I will welcome the cooler weather….I…enjoyed Spring? The warmth was so gentle...and the scents! The colors…it…”
She gave a soft sigh and rested her chin in her hands for a moment. “It felt like hope. I think that the Earth has a lot of that…I’m still struggling with it. But…I’m working to accept it, I think.”
“Tell me about your home? I have never heard of it before, but…that doesn’t surprise me…the Universe is vast…”

“Fall is orange,” she said, “And red, and yellow. The leaves fall from the trees. There is a comforting smell to it. The humans carve faces into pumpkins and put candles inside to make the mouths light up.” She nodded as she spoke of each of these things, but she began to smile as she added, “And it is the best time to find mushrooms.” That was, of course, the most important part. “When our planet failed, the elders created an artificial world to live on until the senshi was reborn,” she explained. “It is called Velencya. It is different from Earth. Quieter. More organized. There are few resources, so we are careful, but we share what we have.”

Orange and yellow? It sounded fantastic and she nodded. “That sounds…so silly, but the humans are silly. I can’t wait to see what it’s like though.” She wasn’t sure why the humans would carve up pumpkins but…they were just silly.
Sylvie listened to the explanation and looked…confused, but interested. “So…you have not been…living on your actual planet? But on an artificial world?” How would that work? It clearly had worked, since the proof was sitting across from her, but…
“I have never heard of such a thing…for how long has this been going on?”
There hadn’t been…advanced enough technology on her world to ever think of that as an option…but. It was interesting.
“Have you…given up and now just live here…?”

“Yes,” Aria confirmed, and since the senshi did not ask for more details, she did not provide them. Even with someone who was not one of the humans, she did not think that she should say that Velencya was running out of energy and dying. Instead, she said, “About a thousand years. I never saw the planet Velenia, but some of our elders were born there.” She also did not think she should say that there was no way for her to get home. “Only a handful of us are on Earth, researching,” she said. “Most of my people still live there.”

“I hope that your planet can be saved…I know what it’s like to have to leave your home. If I can ever assist…please let me know. I’m not sure what I could do but…I would like to help. I find it rewarding to help my friends.” She paused and smiled when their drinks arrived and slipped her straw in, taking a long sip of the pink liquid.
“This world has such good things to eat…and drink. Interesting things to eat and drink…”
Sylvie gave a sigh and glanced out the window. “Are you…happy to be here? Or would you rather be home?”
She didn’t look at Aria while she asked…it was a dreadfully personal question…and honestly…
A difficult one to answer.

“Thank you,” she said. She did not know if there was anything she could ask for immediately, but in time maybe having a friend like this would be useful. The lemonade came, and Aria sipped at it, only to immediately blink and then turn her head to the side, puckering her lips. She had never had lemonade before. “Sour,” she muttered, but then, after a moment, she took another sip. It was different from Velencyan food, and also from the simple dishes she tended to make with mushrooms and vegetables and grains, but that did not mean it was bad. Just strong. “I do not mind Earth,” she said, then paused. “Except for the humans. Sometimes they are violent, and thoughtless, but other times they are kind. It is confusing. I plan to remain here for some time, though.” She did not mention that it was because of her friend the horse. “What do you think of Earth?” she asked. “Will you stay here, if you are able to fix your world?”

“It is delightfully sour…if you ever feel chilled, this place has very sweet warm drinks that are not sour, I think you would like them.”
Sylvie winced slightly at the words that Aria used about humans…had she known her in the past, if that was how she thought of the humans...she would have detested what Kemi had been…
Swallowing, she nodded. “Humans…are quite unpredictable…I’m not…quite used to being here but…I’m not sure I would remain alone on my world…I…have friends here…and that’s more than I’ve had in a thousand years…”
With a sigh she looked back at Aria and shrugged. “I want to fix it…but I think I really like it here…”

“I would like to come back here with you,” Aria decided, “In the winter. To try these drinks that are warm.” After all this time on Earth, she still almost only drank water. Trying something like this felt different, and enjoyable. Like research, even if she was only researching what kind of sensations these beverages would have in her mouth. She also enjoyed being here with her new friend. “I look forwards to that. To enjoying Earth together.” A moment passed, and she added in that stilted, shy tone, “Thank you for coming to talk to me.”

“I would like to do that as well. I am glad that we met! Here is to a long lasting new friendship.” Sylvie felt so pleased. Excited.
Eager to see where this friendship would go.
There was starting to be so many…and she truly enjoyed the idea.
The Earth was amazing.
