It was too hot and Leah was regretting her decision to go out to do and not find a pool to lounge in. She was definitely joining Emili's efforts to convince her cousin that she and her husband needed to build a pool. She suggested it to her own parents, to which they told her that her car could take her to a pool just fine. She was on a mission at the moment, headed towards Rita's because it would be the best way to beat the heat ... well but more because she wanted a sweet treat. She frowned when it came into view and there was a line forever long. She rolled her eyes but resigned herself to joining the line, putting her hair into a bun because ******** if she was stand in the heat with her mass of curls sticking to her sweaty skin. Nope! Not interested in that!

Del had told herself that she didn't need the carbs and calories. It would only make her feel grosser in this heat. But that mini lecture hadn't stopped her from tossing on some shorts, a black crop top and a sunhat that would have been at home on Lydia Deetz's head in Beetlejuice. Thus attired, she'd headed straight for Rita's. The idea of some blue raspberry ice mixed with vanilla custard was too tempting. Hell, maybe she'd buy some stuff to take home to her freezer too.
The massive line nearly had her give up, but the desire for cold was too strong. Hopping into line behind a girl twisting some truly magnificent curls up into a bun, Del frowned slightly. Not at the girl, but the idea of standing out in the sun for who knew how long it would be with an exposed neck.
Reaching into her bag, she rustled about before finding her can of spray sunblock. As an official Goth Girl, she was never without skin protection. Reaching out to tap the girl's shoulder, she smiled and held up the can.
"Honey, you are going to leave this line looking like a boiled lobster, if you're not careful," she said cheerfully. "I can douse you down so you won't burn."

Leah turned confused, but realized after a moment that the woman behind her was indeed talking to her. She gave the woman a polite smile, "oh thank you. Its appreciated, but not really necessary. I rarely burn ... " She pulled her watch band to the side, showing off a wicked summer tan line, though her skin beneath still looked sun kissed. "Though I suppose better safe that sorry, since I've put my hair up. Thank you." She saw some behind them make a vague gesture and complain, making her turn and notice the line moved up. She gave the person a patronizing smile and moved forward closing the gap in the line and turned back to the woman behind her. "Im Leah, nice to meet you."

"Ah, I overstepped, didn't I?" Del laughed. "No worries either way. If you want to sunblock, I gotcha covered!"
Winking at the other girl, she half turned and caught the same complaining soul. Though she dutifully moved up, she could not keep herself to a mere smile. Turning fully, she gave the complainer a beatific grin and waved.
"Get stuffed, Chuckles. I'm looking out for my fellow citizen!"
Turning back to her new friend, she put her hand out, practically beaming good cheer.
"Odelia, though I prefer Del. And I gotta tell ya, Leah. You have some of the best curls I've ever seen!"

Leah was happy to take the sunblock because better safe than sorry. One never knew when it would be the unfortunate day when the sun got the best of one. She beamed at Del when she complimented her curls, which she put a lot of work into maintaining. "Thank you! Curly hair can be such a pain, but I love it. Your color is amazing! I wish I could drum up the courage, but color is a moisture thief and dry curls are a nightmare." Leah decided she absolutely liked this feisty woman. A personality with the little zest was the best kind always. "Its so hot today," she said moving with the line, "I really want an Italian ice, BUT now I feel maybe the pool wouldn't have gone amiss. I wasn't expecting the line to be so long and this heat is dreadful ... hotter than satan's balls outside."

"Good hair dressers are the key," Del said, smiling a little. "I've never had much issue with dry hair. But I also pay handsomely to not have straw on my scalp."
She paused to move up again as the line shifted. Handing Leah the can of sunblock, she decided that she'd let the other girl take control of how much was applied. Reaching into her bag again, she rummaged around until she found a paper fan and grinned. Success!
Taking it out and snapping it open, she did her best to get air moving around them.
"I believe the scientific term is Satan's Taint, but I agree," she said. "It's just gross, though I'm not sure a pool would be better. Everyone not in this line is probably crowding into all available bodies of water."
Though, if she was honest, she was most likely going to hunt down a pool once the sun went down a bit. But until then, it would be holing up in her apartment with frozen treats and A/C cranked to the max.
"I wish the city would set up those misters that a lot of zoos and theme parks use when it's hot. Now that would be lovely."

Leah sprayed some of the sunblock in her hands and applied to the her race, then sprayed her neck and shoulders before giving it back. She wasn't overly worried, but if she did burn her shoulder and face were most likely where she would. She handed the can back and thanked Del again. A few chuckled escaped her at Del's statement and she nodded with a sigh, "yeah the public pools would be a nightmare, but me and my friends tend to hang at my cousin in laws brother's pool. A friend and I are currently heading the build a pool campaign to get my cousin to build one." "Wouldnt that be nice, but my mom would say that never going to happen because its too much like right ... and who's paying that water bill." She rolled her eyes fondly, "though a water park, now that sounds like a great idea for this dreadful hot week." She was definitely going to plan a trip, she bet, they would surely have a ball even if the heat was a beast. "Just a few more people to go, what flavor are you thinking?"

Snorting in amusement, Del shook her head.
“Well, if your committee ever gets to the signature gathering stage, hit me up. I’m always happy to let others know my opinions!”
She wasn’t sure that a water park would be that much better than a pool. More screaming kids for one. And she didn’t care how many gallons of chlorine were pumped in, she was not putting herself into a body of water that likely hundreds of children had peed in. Just… no. But Leah seemed keen on the thought and why ruin her fun by being pessimistic?
Instead, she nodded pleasantly and continued to fan her face. Glancing ahead, she was plenty happy to see that her new friend was right, though. She was enjoying the conversation, but not standing around in the heat.
Tapping her fan against her cheek, she considered.
“Well, I always enjoy getting the mix of ice and custard. I was thinking vanilla and blue raspberry sounded like a win. And I always get some extra pints to take home for later. I might as well get some extra custard too,” she mused out loud before laughing heartily. “I suspect the folks behind me are not going to like me much, but oh well. All’s fair when it comes to Italian ice.”

Leah gave a smile and nodded, "the more the merrier honestly, though I'm not sure how my cousin will feel about it. She's trying to hold out because she knows it means he house will frequently be invaded my young adult, but its not like were not there often enough anyway." Leah shrugged, her cousin's has always been her favorite place to be, even when her kids were being rowdy. She moved up again and nodded, giving a thoughtful look when she mentioned getting pints to take him. "You know that's a really good idea and I'm sure my brothers would appreciate getting some Italian ice, just a couple pint. I'm sure there is enough and the people behind us will be fine. At least there are two windows open, even if its just one line." She grinned noticing finally there were just two people ahead of her and she was soon be nice and cool enjoying her Italian ice. The pair went up to the window together stepped up first in line now. "Finally next."

"Everyone loves italian ice on a day like today," Del stated firmly. "It is the perfect way to cool down."
Noting how close they were to frozen goodness in their own hands, she snapped her fan shut and slid it back into her bag, trading it out for her wallet. There was no hold in holding the line up more than necessary, after all.
"Well, I'm sure your brothers will appreciate the thoughtfulness. And if they don't just let me know," Del grinned and winked. "I'll be happy to kick some manners into them."
Now that they were so close, she could feel the cool air from inside wafting out through the two windows. Between that and the smell of fruity, sweet syrups, she wasn't sure how she could last even a second longer!
