(Back dating to July 4th)

Fasting for so many hours had left him light headed and laid up in bed leading up to him leaving for Lorcan’s home so the doctor could draw his blood. His stomach felt hollow, it was the best way to describe it, as he pulled up into the others driveway and parked. Climbing out of the car slowly the dark haired male felt like a waif, there wasn’t a better term for it really, as he approached the others front door and knocked. He kept his movements slow, not wanting to push himself right now, not till he could get some food into himself, he knew he’d be going for food as soon as this was over.

Today, being on his own all day he’d managed to take the time to dress in some less than boring clothing though he still stuck to the dark color pallet he normally wore. The black pants he wore were made of fabric, rather than denim, and hung in his waist nicely though a bit low. For a shirt a simple black button up with the first two buttons undone, showing that the thin silver chain he wore about his neck vanished down his shirt. If he moved right the shirt showed that the chain went down his chest and circled his waist. It was simple but it at least had him looking put together without looking too…proper, maybe that was the word.

He knew what look he was avoiding, whatever one wanted to refer to it as, and much preferred his darker more comfortable clothing. The downside was most people liked some amount of color so wearing all black, as he often did, meant he stood out in a crowd and that was looks aside.

Lorcan answered the door shortly after the knock, having been ready for the appointed time. On time as always, something that he found rare from his cousin and René. At least Aloysius and Kioshi showed up on time, sometimes a bit early but it worked in his favor. What he wasn’t expecting was the change in attire. It was different than he’d seen and he found his eyes focusing on a gleam he saw which came from the metal chain that seemed to descend behind the shirt they had.

They didn’t look really well though, it seemed that fasting didn’t go off without a hitch for them and he made a mental note to watch for signs of fainting. “Come in, we can get this done so you can get some fluids and then eat.” Motioning them inside before locking the door again, he made his way to the small clinic room where he already had everything set and ready to go.

As he walked, the chain made him think back to the ones that had come up during that temporary piercing session he’d witnessed. Why did that keep coming up? It always came with that odd feeling in his stomach and he knew it wasn’t because of something he ate. It was worrisome because it meant he was distracted and that wasn’t good when he was trying to run tests or take care of a patient, especially someone who trusted them to keep things under wraps in more than the usual way that was required of him for patients.

“You can have a seat and if you could roll up your sleeves and lean back.” The table wasn’t fully flat this time, it had an angle to help promote blood flow for when he got a line in to take samples. It wouldn’t take him long, he knew it wouldn’t but it was worrying that his focus felt off. It was almost enough that it started to peek out in his posture if not his face.

“Food sounds good, tea beforehand I think.” Because he was thinking of sushi for food, conveyor belt sushi because the price was good and options, but tea before hand in order to get something into his stomach. Trailing behind the other Kioshi wasn’t pushing himself as he moved, keeping his steps light and short.

“You have the usual tea?” Questioning the other as he took the indicated seat and unbuttoning the cuff of his sleeve and rolling it up. He kept his arm out, and straight, for the other. “How was your day? Anything unusual or stand out?” Small talk wasn’t his usual thing, he did it at work because he needed to, but right now it was distracting and he needed it.

“That I can do, with a bit of sugar or honey this time to help since you’ve fasted. I got more of your usual, my cousin found it a bit surprising that it’s been disappearing so quickly.” Not that he brought up his other patients to them, other than René since usually they came together.

Cleaning his hands and donning gloves, he went to work with careful hands and sought a decent vein in the crook of their arm. It was hard, to be expected though, because of the fasting but he still managed it. It would hurt more than the other times but he got the vials ready once their blood started to flow. “It was quiet, though I find myself a bit unfocused and I can’t quite figure out why.” It was a mystery to him but he shook it off again and started working on the vials, watching each one fill with blood slowly.

A full set of tubes to cover all the bases on tests that needed to be run while fasting, one after another he got them filled and set back on the rack behind him on the counter. It took more time than it would have if they had been more hydrated but he hadn’t wanted the results to be skewed. “Are you feeling alright? Anything odd happen during your fast other than the fact you do look like you may faint.” He’d seen them stuck like a porcupine and not break a sweat but now it was very obvious they weren’t up to their normal level of energy.

“Honey is fine, it isn’t that bad once you get used to the taste it adds.” Though it wasn’t something he’d have on its own, like he knew some people did. It wasn’t something he could remember ever having before, so it was a new flavor for him to get used to. The needle did hurt this time he noted, clenching his free hand, he had offered the arm which was not inked as the other was harder to work with due to the dark ink covering up the crook of his arm.

“Oh? Has something changed at work? If it’s causing you a distraction I can assume it would be a noticeable change.” Because he knew Lorcan was a rather focused individual, similar to how he was when drawing and working in the studio. It was a dedication to their job which he admired because it was the same for himself, a professionalism and a watchful eye on the work they did so things didn’t slip past them.

“Not really, rather than deal with feeling hungry I slept through most of the time.” It was an easy way of ignoring the hunger pains, and the hollow feeling, you couldn’t feel it if you were asleep. “I do feel faint and really….light…weak and I’d say too thin…if that makes sense. I normally don’t feel too small or weak - like I might blow over.” Even if he was on the slim side of things, which he knew, but he’d never felt like this. It wasn’t a feeling he liked either, nor did he like admitting to feeling this way, but this was a doctor and they were asking for reasons.

His brow furrowed as he considered things, still keeping the vials coming, there were only two left so he shook his head. “Not exactly though I can’t get an image out of my head. But I’ll be fine, I need to pay attention if you are feeling like that. I’m about done with this but don’t get up, you will more likely than not hit the ground after if you’re feeling like that.” The last two vials filled, he set the tray in the container he had ready to cart it over to the lab at his clinic later. He’d get it run under the same pseudonym by his lab clinician and have it added to the file.

Applying gauze and tape to hold it in place after pulling the needle out, he watched them for a moment before moving out of the room and down the hall. Preparing the tea, he also grabbed a small package of cookies from the cabinet for them to snack on. It wasn’t a meal but it would help a bit. Once the tea was ready and the honey and everything stirred in, he left the spoon in the drying rack after rinsing it and made his way back into the clinic room.

After putting a sanitation mat down on the small wheelable tray he had, he set the tea and cookie package down on it and moved it near the table. “Don’t rush to sit up but try this after, go slow and you should be alright. Where were you intending to go after this, just in case you still feel faint I would like to make sure you don’t pass out while driving.” It wouldn’t end well and potentially not just for them.

The worry was there, maybe a bit more than he normally did about patients but it was hard to tell. Something about how drained they looked didn’t sit right with him, that knot forming in his stomach as he pressed a palm to his temple for a moment. He had no headache this time but he was trying to work through options of what he could do to help avoid them fainting here. Not that he hadn’t had a patient stay the night here once or twice but it was usually because of a more drastic event. Much as when he had a burn victim or someone who had gotten slashed by an improvised and rusty weapon.

“Between the fasting and dehydration you seem to be taking it less than ideal, I should have considered things a bit more when I mentioned this round of bloodwork.”

“Trust me, I know I’ll hit the ground if I get up.” This was why they asked people before they pierced, or tattooed them, if they’d eaten recently. If they hadn’t they offered food or drink, or even both, so clients didn’t pass out on them. He knew this was something he’d face but he hadn’t known how he’d feel when he’d gotten up from his sleep. Watching as they handled the vials, and removed the needle from his arm, he could feel his vision swim and as Lorcan left the room he could see spots at the edges of his vision - not good. He knew it wasn’t good.

The tea he reached for, almost unaware of right where it was, and absently sipped from it slowly. “I’ll get up at some point…when I know I’m not going to drop.” Much as he might be light and easy to pick up he was not really interested in kissing the floor either, or making the other pick his a** up off the floor. “

“I was going to head for the asian district for a sushi place I know.” Cheap prices, since it was by the plate and each plate was only a piece or two of sushi, it meant he could consume a lot…and hope he didn’t make himself sick by over eating too fast. From nothing to full might just make him ill also. Sipping he opened the small package of cookies and started to nibble on it, ignoring the shake to his fingers. This was all a rather new feeling for him…and not one he liked.

“So long as I live I’ll be fine. Not everything in life is easy. You just adapt and deal. It’s a nuisance for certain but it’s nothing I can’t bounce back from. And you didn’t plan on this response. If you’re concerned you can drive and join me for food.”

It was good that that had sense, more than most and the fact they listened worked well too. Sitting on his stool, he leaned with his elbows on his knees for a moment as he listened. “Take your time, I have some other small snacks as well. I keep them around for when I have patients or the odd one-off involving one of my younger relatives.” As much as he didn’t like sweets, he kept all manner of cookies and things for when Aberdeen came over. It was his method of bribing her into good behaviour and peaceful quiet.

“Ah, I believe I know where that is. There is a shop I stop at sometimes in that district for some stationery for the secretary. Something about certain fountain pens or staplers being more stylish or reliable if they have certain characters on them. I’m not sure exactly but I will say some of the notebooks have good organizational set ups in them.” Perfect for his notes and most of them laid flat so he didn’t have to worry about losing his place or things shifting while he worked.

The offer was there and he considered it, weighing how it would be odd for him as their doctor to bring them out for food. It was a grey area as well because they were also co-workers in a sense. “Alright, I can do that once you gain a bit more color back. You look as if you were suffering from consumption right now.”

“Stationary….I’m not surprised. There are whole stores for stationery in Japan.” And he hoped the other did not ask how he knew that, because it was part of him relearning his own culture. He had looked into a lot of things, too many hours spent on youtube watching and learning. He was sure some of these things he hadn’t known growing up, having not spent many years living in Japan, but it was a part of what he’d lost regardless and he was out to reclaim it. “I can see certain pens being better but not due to characters. I find I like very fine point pens myself.” If he wasn’t careful the tips would bend, or even snap, but he liked how they wrote.

“I’ll trust your judgment on my appearance and chalk it up to not eating for hours. I don’t normally look half dead, even when I’m running on little sleep.” Even if his eyes round up like a pandas he didn’t look half dead, or closer to death's door than that.

“I had thought I’d be well enough to take myself for food, had I thought otherwise I’d have brought something with myself. You never pierce or tattoo someone if they’re on an empty stomach - they drop on you. It doesn’t look good when clients pass out.” Rolling his blue eyes he took his time but slowly did stand up, just as he was finishing his tea and cookie.

“We also don’t take people if they’ve had booze or caffeine…too much bleeding.” He had turned drunks away, much to their dislike, he’d even had one who claimed to need the booze to get up the nerves to get inked. Clearly they should not be getting ink if they didn’t have the nerve for it without liquid help. They weren’t mature enough or ready for the commitment.

“I can put the address into google so it can help.” Seeing as the other was fine in coming with him, and even driving. “If you want anything I’ll cover the food.”
PostPosted: Fri Jul 05, 2024 8:43 pm

“I see, that would explain the variety I saw then.” It had taken him awhile to find things when he’d gone and each time he needed to get more supplies, everything was all moved around again. Passing trends or short limited time items, it was all rather frustrating but his secretary did good work and if it helped her to keep doing the good work he’d go there.

Standing and holding out a hand to help steady them, it hovered just slightly away if needed. “True, I have seen you patrol after what I assume was an all-nighter and you still looked much better off than now.”

At least their shop had common decency unlike some of the others he’d seen around the city. Ones that tattooed drunks or people who were there on dares or things like that, the people who shouldn’t have been allowed to consent to something permanent while being far from ideal conditionto actual listen and heal up after a tattoo from what he’d gathered. It wasn’t like a sunburn where you could leave it mostly after applying aloe, it had stricter rules and procedures which he found refreshing now that he knew about it.

“That will work, I need to switch out of my work coat.” Because even if he was home he still wore something similar to the labcoat he wore at his clinic, it helped add an additional layer between him and what fluids might come up during a blood draw or examination.

Yes, Japanese people were fond of stationary, very fond, and he could only imagine the other moving all over such a store trying to find what he needed. Depending on the size of the store it might have taken him awhile, and he had a feeling he knew which store as well. Had he seen all the decorated tapes as well? Most people used one kind of tape, maybe two if they had to for work, but the Japanese people had colorful decorated tapes. He certainly didn’t see the point in it.

“Some sessions take a while” Shrugging as he stood, using the others hand and weight to help steady himself. “So long as someone doesn’t go for me on a night like that it’s all good.” And most nights he didn’t run into any senshi or knights, lucky for them really. “I don’t like to let one job interfere with the plans I have for the other…so an all nighter for one doesn’t stop me from going on a patrol to make quota.” He was dedicated…to both jobs.

“Alright, go change, I can stand on my own and wait.” He’d be fine, he felt better on his feet the longer he stood there.
PostPosted: Fri Jul 05, 2024 8:47 pm

Again, the touch didn’t bother him and he found his eyes wandering down the path of the chain as they’d leaned into him to steady themself. Turning his head to cough slightly, he nodded and grabbed the empty cup to bring with him back towards the kitchen before he would step into his bedroom to change. “I’ll be back shortly, if you feel dizzy feel free to sit back down for a moment.”

Washing the cup and setting it aside to dry, he washed his hands again and pressed a bit of water to his face to try and combat the odd way he was feeling. Perhaps he would set an appointment with his own doctor to see if he was having some sort of stress related response to something. Maybe he was worrying too much about things because this was an interesting case and he was getting to deep into it again.

Closing the door to his room after stepping inside, he hung his coat on the hook behind the door and went to changing into something a bit more casual, though if most people looked at him they could tell he was a doctor still. There was always that level of clean professionalism in his attire even if he was out of the office. Running a comb through his hair took only a second to tame the few flyaways before he headed back down the hall to where they were waiting.

“Okay we can head out and get you something to eat. I’m not sure if there is anything I might eat there, but it would be interesting to see the choices.” He was used to going out to nicer places, ones with steaks or other protein dense meals. Whatever was healthy alongside greens and other veggies to keep his meals balanced.

Waiting for the other Kioshi took the time to glance around, from where he stood, turning in spot he spotted some plushies which certainly stood out. He assumed they were a gift, not something the typically stiff doctor would purchase for himself. But if they were here, for people to see, he assumed they were acceptable and gifted from someone close to the other.

“I’m not sure either, I don’t know what you eat.” There was no reason for him to know, just as there was no reason for Lorcan to know what he ate. Though really, if he thought about it, it might make more sense for the doctor to know what he ate. Pulling out his cell phone, having kept it in a back pocket, he unlocked the screen and pulled up directions for the other.

“Your car or you want to drive mine?” Not sure if the other wanted someone in his car.,..though for a similar reason he might not want to be in someone elses car….it was never easy to figure things with the other.

“Most of the choices are going to have fish involved.” Though he also knew they would have raw beef, some with raw egg on it and sesame oil and seeds. There would be raw beef with rice and wrapped in seaweed as well. But it would be a lot of rice and fish. They did offer udon and miso soup though, which were both pretty good as far as he was concerned.

“It says it’s not too long of a drive.” Given what time it was, traffic would be good as well.
PostPosted: Fri Jul 05, 2024 8:48 pm

“Mostly healthy food, a higher protein diet in a way but that’s mostly due to the fact I have to assist and move patients from time to time and I need to maintain what I’ve sort of built up because of my job. Though I would guess you eat sushi, at least partially considering that’s where these directions lead.” Some sort of moving sushi bar, not something he’d really seen but had heard of through patients socializing in the waiting room.

“Given your state, I am driving and I would prefer my car due to that. It’s easier that way and then if after eating you are feeling more like yourself you can drive yourself home from here when we get back.” It was a bit of extra driving but it was a lot safer than the other getting in a wreck because they passed out.

“Fish should be fine, I’ll see what they have but if nothing strikes me then that’s fine as well. I was planning on cooking something this evening for when one of my colleagues comes over this evening to do some maintenance on one of the machines in my clinic.” It wouldn’t be hard for him to let Katya know he would be late, and if that odd feeling in his stomach persisted, then he might bring it up to the mauvian as a passing curiosity.

Stepping out of the house, he waited for them to follow along and held an arm out if they needed it for balance to get down all the stairs from his front door to the street. Once there and in his car, he had them connect their phone to his car via the cable in the center console so the gps would show on the onboard screen. He rarely looked at it but seeing the map out of the corner of his eye did come in handy.

He could understand the others food choices, the reasoning was sound and made sense, it wasn’t unusual even. He was a bit surprised that they didn’t mention going to the gym, so he assumed they didn’t, but being in the Negaverse was a work out on its own really. Had Kioshi been the gym going sort of person he might have given it up, or reduced gym time, once he’d joined the Negaverse as it wasn’t as needed.

“That’s fine, I wasn’t sure which car you’d prefer.” Someone in his or climbing into someone else's…he wasn’t sure which would be considered better in the other's mind. Though he supposed Lorcan could always clean his car later after having someone else in his car, so the choice made a bit more sense really. Kioshi figured the same idea sort of applied to getting in his car though…that Lorcan could just clean his clothing. But Lorcan knew his car better so adding that into the mix the choice made sense to him.

“Oh, that sounds fine then. I didn’t want you to go without food.” So he had worried when the other mentioned perhaps not finding food to eat at his choice of places, though he also wasn’t much for changing his mind on sushi because fish was on his mind all damn day - even in his sleep he’d dreamed of eating fish.

Once he’d gotten out of the others home Kioshi had made a quick detour to his own car, to retrieve what looked like a pencil case. Pocketing it he followed the other to his car and climbed into the passenger seat and offered his phone for connection, so they could get there easily. He didn’t mention the case, or what was in it, but he honestly found it easier to have his own chopsticks because places used ones he wasn’t as comfortable with. Whether it be due to the material they were made from, thus the weight of them, or the length it was just easier to have his own on hand to use. Chopsticks, for him, were small bits of art and they served as a means of eating - something worth spending a bit of money on.

“At least I know you won’t starve if you don’t find anything interesting at this place to eat.”
