The Caves (5) : To any explorers visiting the new Reservoir, they may find that just a bit away from the sandy water are a set of caves. Some of these connect back to the lake, but others rapidly plunge into darkness. It wouldn't be hard to get lost in here, but thankfully there are some very odd lights to help guide you out. If you turn off your light down some of these dark paths, you may find yourself surrounded by glowing pastel lights. A closer inspection reveals that you seem to be looking at some sort of glowing caterpillars. An internet search will reveal that Destiny City scientists have been researching the strange, unnamed creatures, but the articles are very limited. If you take them out of the cave they seem to shrivel up almost immediately. They’re neat, but clearly meant to be stay in their natural habitat.

Stribor hummed to himself a little as he made his way through the streets—he generally disliked water and sand, as it got into his fur and never seemed to want to come out, but it seemed like good products for that sort of thing… while they weren't perfect by any means (Striborans had certainly perfected the game of balancing care of skin and hair with the fur, the products had truly been glorious), some certainly had merit. So he didn't mind going out every once in a while to do something silly like trek through the Reservoir and explore the caves nearby.

At least it would all vanish when he powered down later, as well. He'd nearly forgotten that bit for a moment, so caught up in his silly, vain worries. He hadn't had that luxury for such a long time. Still, he tried to wade in areas that didn't go too far above his knees, because getting his tail, or fields-forbid, his ears wet, was the real nightmare. Yes, he had to carefully clean his fur between his toes with the wet sand and all, but that was much easier than ears and tail. He shivered with revulsion at the mere thought.

He hadn't expected to find anyone else hanging out in the caves, though—not anyone powered, that was. The aura tingled on his senses and he peered into the dark, gently lit by the glowing caterpillars. It felt like a friendly aura, at least. And in the glow, he could see a little star charm—he scooped it up with a delighted little chuff.

After the unfortunate run-in with whatever had been in the water, Procyon decided to poke around the caves instead, hoping to find a little reef or some sort of puddle to dip his feet in that wasn't full of monsters. He could handle small things, like what he had seen back home or in these things the humans called aquariums. It had been odd at first, seeing so much water but not being able to get into it. It had been a bit upsetting but at least he'd figured out about something called moisturizer and that seemed to help solve his skin issues with this planet and its lack of water.

Squishy ears sliding from side to side as he kneeled over a small group of glowing critters, he felt a familiar aura and perked up. It was a bit hard to see outside of the soft glow of the little worm things, caterpillars... that's what he thought they were called at least.

"Hello?" Calling out quietly as he shifted and plopped down onto the cold and slightly moist floor of the cave. It felt pretty nice in here away from the heat and it was humid enough that he didn't feel so dried out like he had been lately.

Ah. He knew that voice. Grinning, Stribor made his way a little more forward, just enough to see—

"Procyon! Hey," he greeted a little exuberantly as he padded over to come sit beside his more fishy bunny friend. Stribor couldn't stand the water, but of course, Procyon loved it—he needed to live in it, after all. "How are you holding up? Enjoying the summer? At least the Reservoir is open, right?"

He crossed his legs, ears swiveled to listen to Procyon.

"Good good, Miss Illyria helped me get a bit stronger just recently so I've been a bit more capable but..." His face soured at the mention of the reservoir and he looked in that direction even if he couldn't see it from all the way in here. Shrugging he smiled again and watched as one of the glowing critters started inching over his hand.

"I think I'll try visiting it again when whatever grabbed me goes to sleep. The heat is really different than back home, I'm not sure how I like it... What about you? You don't get too warm right? I remember you did better off in winter than I did." The thought of the snow made him shiver a bit, it was pretty but it left him sneezing for a few days after. This year he was a bit better prepared though, he'd learned to make clothes and there were so many more fabrics available on this planet than back home.

That thought in mind, he perked up and shuffled around a bit, pulling something from his subspace. "Oh, I forgot! I made this for you but everything got pretty busy for me." Holding it out, it was a scarf with stripes of different fabrics with little tassels on the end, he'd figured out something called crochet and had made a few such things for his other space senshi friends.

"I'm glad you had a Mauvian to help you unlock your power," he said. "I guess I'm still working on it myself, haha. Oh well, these things take time. I'm not concerned."

He looked at the little bugs but didn't reach out to touch any of them—he didn't want to hurt any of them by accident. "Something grabbed you? There's something dangerous living in the Reservoir?" he asked, catching on to the little bit of information that had just been dropped on him. "That's nuts. Hope they catch it, or something."

"As for winter, yeah, my winter fur had grown in." He twitched his ears at Procyon. "Summer fur is back now, though. I like it better this way; I don't think nearly all white looks good on me."

He grinned at his wit. Then grew curious at the thought of a gift, and gasped softly at the scarf that Procyon revealed to him. "Wait a tick, you made this? Oh, Procyon! That's so thoughtful," he said, gently taking it and petting the fabric. "This is gorgeous. Oh, and I don't have anything to give back to you..."

"Miss Illyria was the one that found me when I got here, she's pretty nice and has taught me a lot about humans here. To be honest, I didn't know I was ready but she said I was after I got back from helping another senshi." He hadn't really thought he felt any different, if anything, he felt extra tired after all the pollution and toxic waste that he'd gotten spewed with on Daedalus.

Wiggling his fingers, one of the caterpillars started to inch up his arm as it glowed faintly. They were cute and sort of reminded him of some of the bioluminescent sea slugs that had once lived on the seafloor back home. Shrugging at the question, he wasn't exactly sure. "I didn't see it but another mauvian helped get it off me. Apparently there were rumors going around for the humans on something called.... social media? But she said it isn't here all the time so it must hibernate when it gets colder." That's what he hoped at least.

"I think it's really neat, the closest thing I've seen is that my ears and tail shrink when I get to dehydrated or dried out. Though I think some of the people back home used to change colors with the season but it was the older people." That and he was sure it had been something related to the tides but he wasn't too sure because it was so long ago.

"I've been practicing with both hands since I need to build up dexterity with the replacement Daedalus made me, some of the stitches aren't perfect but it's a lot better than when I started." Wiggling the fingers of his prosthetic, the motion wasn't as rigid as before but it still lacked the same fluidity that his other hand had. It was progress and he knew it would never be perfect but he'd appreciated it more than he could ever put into words.

"It's alright! I like making things, plus it's always nice to see my friends." The company and gossip was honestly his favorite part aside from seeing how people liked the things he'd made.

It was too hot for him to wear the scarf now, so he slipped it into his subspace—he'd try to remember to get it back out before he went home so he could put it away.

"That looks awesome!" he exclaimed, looking at the prosthetic. "You're doing a wonderful job with it then. Seriously, that looks nice."

Nodding proudly, he had been working hard at things between exploring the city and its surrounding areas. "Thanks, I'm hoping to be able to start making things with beads again soon but the things are a bit hard to hold with it. I think it's because they're slippery or too smooth maybe?" Musing to himself a bit more with that last part, he blinked and noticed that one of the caterpillars that was crawling up his arm a moment ago seemed to be missing.

"Huh?" Moving slightly, he looked around for where the thing might have gone until he felt something in his hair. "Oh, that's not a good place for you to be the little one." Moving carefully, he helped the creature out and placed them back down. Part of him wondered if Illyria might get mad if he brought a few of them home and set up a little terrarium. But they belonged here he figured and it might not be good to take them out of the caves.

"At some point soon maybe if you'd want to join me for some exploring? I've been going to these things called bakeries and they have all sorts of cute foods and drinks."

Stribor chuckled a little at the caterpillars, gently shooing a few away from himself, as well. They sure were cute... It was too bad they would die if they left here.

"I hope you can figure out the beadwork," he said, scratching the base of an ear. "As for exploring, absolutely, yes! I'd love to do that sometime. A friend of mine purchased a cell phone for me when I'm D—not Stribor."
