That's how Dmitry felt right now as he waited with Ryan at the little mom and pop restaurant that was chosen for their little meet and greet. He really shouldn't be nervous, Ry didn't seem nervous at all and he was kinda jealous. Either way, he brushed his hair back, keeping it in a low ponytail. Moon was due to meet them in a little bit.
Ryan wasn't sure how he felt about all this, but he was enjoying the honesty and the lack of feeling like he needed to walk on eggshells. They ditched the therapist theyd been going to and Ryan admitted he bullied Xander into trying to get Yatora to help them, even if it was just a better recommendation for a therapist. Furthermore he was kind of surprised at how receptive Moon was to all this and so he sat waiting in the little booth, an ice tea in front of him. Was he really entertaining this?
He looked to his husband, who didn't look as calm as he wanted and tried not to laugh at him before looking up hearing the door chime and seeing Moon walk it. She walked over to their table and slid into the seat across from him.
“Hey,” he said.
“Hi Ryan, Dmitry. Its been a while.”
Dmitry tried not to sit ramrod straight when he heard Moon’s voice, looking down at his hands with a frown. This was okay, Moon isn't freaked out and Ryan is chill, it's going to be alllll rrrriiiiight. “Hey Moon. Yeah….Been a minute.” He rubbed the back of his head nervously, “How have you been?” He tried not to stare too long or have a dopey a** grin on his face, which was really hard to do.
Ryan smiles, but then arches an eyebrow at his husband and turns to look at him, blinking confused, before he starts laughing. It was those deep belly laughs because what in the high school musical was going on. He husbands looked besmeeched at the moment and Ryan was loosing it.
“Oh my god, this isnt what you were like … were you like this … no you were annoying as hell and always in my face … what is this?”
His laughter started dying away and he chuckled looking at Moon, who looked amused blushing slightly. “Uh I'm sorry … Ive just never, if he was a cartoon character, he’d have hearts in his eyes.” He looked at Dmitry, “man I love you.”
Moon smirked and looked amused at the two men before him, their dynamic made it so easy to just like them. She just knew from the start the babies she helped them make would have a good life. “Ive been okay, surprised though, by your phone call. Ryans right though, your face paints a picture.”
Great, his tough guy persona is further tarnished. He frowned at his husband, giving him a pleading look, “I was young!” And not married is what he would've added if he didn't think it wouldn't turn the atmosphere awkward. “I would not have hearts in my eyes Ry damn!” He tried to see if he could get his toughness back, but he figured it wouldn't be possible at this point.
“I love you too, stop laughing!” He sighed, covering his face with embarrassment. When Moon made her comment, he turned almost as red as his hair, groaning.
Ryan did finally stop laughing, wiping his eyes and leaning against his husband, slipping his hand into his husbands and lacing their fingers. This ease, he’d been missing this … they’d always been so natural, like breathing.
“So Ryan, you're okay with this whole … um,” she started not sure to how to start, “I mean its not everyday that one’s husband decided they want another for themselves and for you? Im honestly not sure, Dmitry couldnt … or wouldnt explain and that’s fine.”
Ryan sighed and shook his head, “I honestly can’t say I have ever thought of or look at you with anything other than love that is more like gratitude and if im honest I didn't react well to his admission. Hell, things have been rocky for a while … BUT I think we need to face it.”
He wasnt sure what that looked like, but ignoring the issue certainly wasnt helping. He looked to his husband, “I mean we’ve know each other for years now and I still dont know you as well as I could.”w
Dmitry still looked red as the two talked. How the hell do you explain falling for someone….Again, then explaining the fact that not only is he attracted to their personality but body as well? He winced internally at that last bit, which was why he gave Moon a brief confession and did not go any further lest he step on some toes. Now that Ryan and him were just getting over that communication barrier they've had for the past couple of months, he didn't want to admit to the fact that yes he caught himself staring…..Alot at some of Moons more generous assets. In his defense, he was a male and frankly just attracted to a certain type of female rather than ALL females.
So….He was fully gay but with rare exceptions….This is okay.
As he looked at Ryan and Moon casually conversing, there was a bit of a softer look in his eyes. How the hell are they so relaxed speaking about this? It was refreshing and weird at the same time. Almost made him slip into imagining other things but he quickly recovered from that. Wouldn't do to get excited in a restaurant.
“Thats understandable, I mean Dmitry has had more time to get to know me and I admit I was surprised at how fast we became friends … I admit, maybe this wouldnt have happened if you chose a closed adoption, as happy and grateful as I am that you didn’t. Getting to have a relationship with you and Livvie, Nikki and Si, is amazing. Its harder than one might imagine to not fall, so to speak.”
It was the outings, while she was carrying the babies, the phone calls, facetimes, the babies knowing who she was and feeling like family. The hugs and park days and just, Moon had wondered if she should try to distance herself when she wished for more.
Impossible right?
“So what are we hoping to accomplish with this meeting,” she asked looking to Ryan and Dmitry.
Ryan honestly wasnt sure outside of everything being in the open, which it very much was. He wanted a sense of normalcy, but also realized this might be a shift … in their life, their dynamic. He looked to Dmitry to speak first.
There were only a couple of reasons for Dmitry to ever want a closed adoption, and Moon gave him no reason to want that. When Ryan looked to him he knew he would have to be completely open and honest, no holding back. He just hopped they would both understand where he was coming from. “W-Well…I wanted to be completely honest with you. I meant what I said when we talked over the phone. I really do love you Moon.” He swallowed nervously, tightening his hold on Ryan’s hand, “I…Well with Ryan's permission, I wanted to try earning your love in return.” He hoped he said that right… “But I also want you to get to know Ryan more. It's my hope that we could all be in a relationship one day.” He smiled and nuzzled his face into Ryan's hair for a moment, trying to calm his nerves before continuing.
“T-That being said, if you decide this isn't for you, that's okay too.” He hoped she understood what he was saying, “Back when I first met Ry, I wasn't aware of what I was feeling then and like a child, I really didn't leave him alone. Being a bit more mature, I have learned to respect boundaries.” He gave her a sheepish smile. “I hope that made sense”
Ryan nodded, not really saying anything, still on the fence and apprehensive for the first time in the conversation. He wasnt entirely against it, but wasnt sure if it was just to make Dmitry happy. Still his husbands words worked both ways … if Ryan decided it wasnt for him, they that was that.
“Oh,” Moon said softly, “this is like an all or nothing sort of thing.” She frowned, but nodded after a moment. “I think thats fair. So, um then … lets hang out then … I kind of want to try that play park place, the the obstacle course and the foam pit and trampolines … you know the place?”
“Oh yeah! I know that place….I think they have a rock climbing wall too right?” He was all for getting out and doing activities. Better to take advantage of the kids being gone, and having adult fun times is always needed. “We could leave now, unless you're hungry?”
Ryan perked up at the suggestion that included rock climbing and trampolines, “forget food, we can eat later. I want to rock climb … sounds like Indoor Outdoor World … you know that place that Lils likes.”
Moon nodded, “yes I think that’s the place, I've been wanting to go for a while. They even have a zipline. I like to stay active.”
Ryan drank the rest of his tea and flagged down the waiter so they could pay, “we can eat later, after, I'm sure we will be starving.”
