Drombeg had moved away from his cabin, at least half a mile, making sure that he couldn’t sense any other auras in the area. He wanted to avoid any Negaverse of course, but other auras as well, he just didn’t have time for them, nor did he want to make any conversations with others. He needed to take this time to find the Code piece at his Wonder which he hadn’t been able to visit in a while, but did have to admit that it was disconcerting that he had felt no connection to it while they had been talking to the Code.
Now was his chance to find what it was hiding however and just a moment after he had uttered his oath he already found himself at the foggy entrance to his Wonder and made his way inside. Looking around nothing appeared to be that different, but it felt weird.
As though someone had come in and been around his Wonder without permission. He didn’t like it to say the least. It wasn’t until he had wandered around some of the base of the tree that he realized a branch was broken. Unnaturally so if the burnt broken part was any indication. And if what the Code had said was true, that meant that this was a clue to where the Code piece was.
Which meant climbing. Well, this was certainly something he had experience in. Technically it was rock climbing but climbing rocks and trees were basically the same right? Just find somewhere to grab and make sure your footing is secure.
He figured that the best place to start would be the entrance to the inside of the tree. It appeared to have enough sticking out that he could easily get his way to the first few branches. After that it was easy.
One foot after the other, making sure that the part that he had grabbed onto wouldn’t crack and fall beneath him. It took a a good time but eventually he saw what had to be the “top” of the tree. Or at leas the top that constituted the trunk of the tree. He really did not want to have to go and try to find the Code piece on a random branch or something.
The black soot that he had seen on the broken branch was becoming more apparent as he made his way up and at one point his hand slipped because of it. He kept his grip however and managed to pull himself to the top.
There appeared to be a knotty bump in the middle of the tree that had been cracked in half and inside of it the code piece was sitting though it looked as though it was running out of battery or something. This had to be it, right?
He made his way over to it and gingerly picked it up. As soon as he did the lighting around him changed. The color appeared to be saturated into a purple and the leaves appeared to be frozen in time.
And as soon as he had seen it, he blinked and it was gone once again. It gave him a shiver up his spine, but as he felt that worry, the Code piece appeared to attempt to comfort him, pulsating a bit making Drombeg realize he was still holding it.
“Well, may as well stay here for a bit.” He said, sitting down and looking at the Code piece, attempting to focus magic on it in the chance that would help it to regain it’s former light. It took what appeared to be hours and Drombeg almost feel asleep a couple of times, but eventually the Code piece appeared to be more like the Code that could be seen on the moon. And as soon as he put it back, the soot and crack and even the branch appeared to heal themselves, making the tree shudder a bit as it happened.
He let out a sigh, glad that he was able to do something for his Wonder, especially considering he hadn’t done much with it other than sleep and find it as an area to train. But this reinforced within him that this washis Wonder. He was a Knight. And the Negaverse was going to have to kill him if they ever wanted to take this away from him.
