“All right Sumner, you can do this.” He said to himself as he had gone back to the reservoir and making sure that he couldn’t sense anyone around had powered up. He was wary of attempting to get to his Wonder with all of the trouble that the other Knights had, but he wanted to get there. He had to. Even if he had been busy that didn’t mean he wanted to neglect his Wonder. After all, he was still exploring the whole thing. He had just found out how to use his magic with one hand!
He could do this, and as he muttered the oath to himself, he could hear the sound of the water falling all around him and he could see himself on the platform that would allow him to dive to his Wonder.
And in practiced form he did, easily making the dive and coming up to look around. Nothing seemed out of the ordinary for the moment. It was sunny unlike last time so he should have plenty of light to go and find the piece of the Code that was hidden within his Wonder. And “resonate” with it, whatever that meant.
He climbed out of the water, his uniform allowing the water to fall off quickly so that he was dry in an instant. He took another look around. He still couldn’t see any immediate problems, which meant that whatever had happened at his Wonder must have been deeper inside of it. Kaerius didn’t appear in front of him, though the ancestor hadn’t appeared in a while. But he could still feel his presence. He was here, but with whatever had happened with the Wonder, Sumner doubted that the ghost would be able to appear even if he wanted to.
He was alone, but that wasn’t different from most visits. He would have to see where Kaerius usually hung out.
He decided to go where he had found his enchantment, the ability to swim up waterfalls. He again entered the main structure and found himself at the pool with the coral in it, the empty structure sitting in the middle. It had been some time since he had been here and he could see that the coral was a little less bleached, but definitely not the bright coloring it should have been.
There was more to the room however. In the back had been another door, one he had yet to enter as he had no need to. But this time, he had to look in every nook and cranny to find the code piece, so opening the door this time was a must.
He wandered around the pool towards the back and it appeared to recognize him as the door appeared to roll away as he got closer. Looking inside of it there was a long hallway and it seemed to be surrounded by water. Something was keeping it at bay, whatever it was Sumner didn’t know, but what he could see was clear blue. Nothing. For a moment he wondered if there were life if he would be able to see it in the water, but looking at the surrounding coral that dotted and lined the edges of the hallway and seeing just how dead it all was, he couldn’t be sure.
He thought he was in the right place. This place looked like it hadn’t been touched in centuries. Except… at the end of the hallway as he looked towards it the door at the end looked like it had been cracked. Recently if the sand on everything else was any indicator. This had to be it. And unfortunately whatever had damaged the door kept it from opening for him this time, causing him to have to be able to use his strength as a Knight to move the door over himself. Unfortunately the crack caused it to get stuck, but it allowed enough room for Sumner to squeeze himself inside.
And what he saw inside made his eyes grow wide. The room was domed, and contained the intricate drawings he had seen on the walls on other parts of the wonder, though these were different. It appeared to be… stars? Planets? He wasn’t sure, he hadn’t ever been that interested in studying what was out there in space, but it seemed to be planets and constellations.
He couldn’t tell one from another though. The lines held no color and everything was faded, unlike the drawings outside of the room. Perhaps they were damaged as well? When his eyes finally moved to the middle of the room, he could see an intricate pedestal with waves surrounding the top and what appeared to be water holding it up, flowing down into whatever the floor was. If he could have taken a video, he would have.
And there was the code piece. Faded, barely moving. Something had definitely happened to it, he just wish he knew what.
He moved over to the piece and held it with his hands.
He felt as though he was suddenly transported and he could tell that he was in the same room, however Kaerius now appeared to be a solid person and he had his harp with him. The ancestral Knight appeared to be humming and strumming his harp to a song that Sumner had never heard, with the code piece glowing brighter for a moment every so often. He continued to watch and listen to the Knight, but then the other faded and he could tell he was back in the now decayed room.
He wasn’t sure what he had just seen. A memory? A message? A hallucination brought on by some sort of brain problem? Whatever it was, it gave Sumner an idea and he put the code piece back on the pedestal before reaching for the harp lying on his back and striking it a bit, attempting to remember the tune that he had just heard. He couldn’t help but be quite proud of his weapon now. It had already been important to him before he had awakened as a Knight, and now it looked like a proper instrument for a Neptune Knight.
It took a few moments but eventually Sumner was able to remember the song and started to play it for the piece, humming along as he went. As he continued to play, the piece appeared to be coming to life, pulsating at certain points. This went on for as long as Sumner was able to play, to the point where he was sure that it had been at least a couple of hours.
As he slowly stopped playing and looked at the Code piece he could tell that it was looking much better, more like the main part of the Code now.
He was sure that he had resonated with it and therefor his current job at the Wonder was done. However, the song he had just learned bothered him a bit, as though he should have heard it somewhere before and yet it was still new. He would have to go home and write it down before he forgot it. Whatever it meant.
