“That’s unfortunate.” Cyrus mused as he glanced up towards the horizon, the gathering of clouds hinting that a horrible storm was about to unfold. Even the trees had gone strangely still, the upturned leaves preparing for the torrential downpour that was about to hit the area. No birds sang, no smaller animals chittered…it was just quiet. The ranger could only shake his head, trying to finish up gathering the flowers he had noticed in the meadow while exploring some of sauti after an escort mission, and he had barely tucked the final flower into his belongings when the thunder boomed overhead. “Lovely.”

Now where did he go? There was a forest on the edge of the meadows, maybe a large tree could provide some sort of shelter against the rain rather than the open fields. Cyrus let out a soft sigh, gathering his belongings as he prepared to make the swift walk across towards some sort of shelter.

Teagan's eye fluttered open when she felt the cool air brush over her face. That was definitely rain on the way. The teen yawned and stretched her arms as she sat up and looked around. "That doesn't look good," she grumbled to herself when her eyes took in the heavy incoming clouds. Those hadn't been there when she'd fallen asleep, and they would be on her before she could get home.

Dang. Who would have thought that napping on chores would backfire? She quickly gathered up her bag and left the inadequate shelter of the rocks.

Oh, there was someone else out here?! She pulled her cap down over her eyes to avoid eye contact with the stranger as she scurried for the cluster of trees. With limited options, they were bound to share a shelter for a while. Didn't meant they had to interact!

Don't bother with them...you can just go the opposite way... Cyrus repeated the mantra in his head as he watched the figure pull their cap down over their eyes and walk towards the trees. It wasn't any of his business if they weren't bothering him and honestly he preferred things that way. He was not nearly as social as most of his family, that was for certain. Any of them would have probably called out or waved already, but not him. He would only interact if absolutely necessary and of course at the very thought a strong gust of wind managed to rip a tree branch free and send it tumbling through the air towards the figure that had just passed him.

"Watch out!" Before he realized it, Cyrus was already moving forward to reach out and tug the figure backwards as the limb crashed into the ground where they had been standing a moment ago. As much as he hated interacting with others the last thing he wanted to do was deal with an injured body because he hadn't acted either.

There was no sound from the stranger so far, and Teagan was more than content to leave it that way. The tree cluster didn't look like it was very big, but it was big enough that they could each have their own spa- The sharp crack above her head yanked her from her thoughts, skin bristling as her head snapped up to seek the source. She yelped when she was yanked off of her feet backward from the path of the branch. It missed her by mere inches.

"Geez! Guess I shoulda stayed with them rocks." She got her feet back underneath her and looked back at her rescuer. "Thanks."

"Rocks?" Cyrus frowned as he immediately let go of the girl, the ranger not comfortable with touching others especially strangers. "Trees are fine, just have to get to the sturdy ones first." He acknowledged, the howling of the wind nearly ripping the words from his mouth. It seemed that this would not be a simple storm and the very thought made him wince. Now that he had already interacted with her it would truly be rude to just walk away, right?

"I know a good shelter spot, if you need." He yelled, throwing his voice over the rising wind as the first fat drops of rain started to smack against the ground through the foliage. There was an ancient one that was somewhat petrified at the base, nearly solid enough to be rock, and they could take shelter in the hollow of the trunk that had been carved into probably decades ago which would offer plenty of room for the pair of earthlings. It was probably better than trying to make for the main path or the cliffs, especially with how the rain was starting to get heavier as the dark clouds came closer.

Teagan ducked her head against the howl of the wind. Sturdy trees... "Workin' on it." Her hand slapped up to pin her cap back to her head when the wind tried to lift it off and steal it away. Crap. She really needed to get under some cover.

She had turned her head to check out the branches above and make sure no more were coming down when the offer came up. She pursed her lips and looked at the young man for a cautious moment. Well... if he tried anything, surely she could kick his a**. "Ain't much of a choice, I guess," she shouted back. She pulled the cap down lower to keep the rain out of her eyes and jerked her head for her new associate to lead the way.

"Follow me then." Cyrus motioned, the hybrid starting through the woods the best that he could despite the wind and rain. It was truly nasty outside and he could only imagine how much worse it would get with those storm clouds that he had seen stretching all the way across the horizon. At least he knew of a good shelter for them, as loathe as he was to share it with a stranger. Out of all the members of his family....well, he was far from being the most sociable type.

More rain started pelting through the trees and the young ranger had to take a moment to make sure that his companion was still trailing behind him. Once he spotted her, Cyrus waved one more time and pointed towards a huge tree that was standing out in the middle of a grove. It was so old that the wood looked almost like stone, part of it fossilized from time or something like that, and the empty branches no longer bore many leaves but still the deep roots from centuries had kept it standing even now. The trunk which was hollow had enough room for three or even four earthlings to comfortably group together and it was there that Cyrus checked inside, making certain that no other surprises awaited them, and after knocking out a few cobwebs he ducked and climbed in.

Spreading out his travel blanket, Cyrus placed it against the musty ground and finally peeked outside again to wave the other earthling forward to join him. Hopefully he could hang up something from his pack, maybe some netting or something, and that could block out some more of the rain that would surely come inside with how crazy the wind was getting.

The air pressure grew heavier as the storm moved over them. Teagan's frown deepened with irritation. Her nap had completely betrayed her! She wasn't sure if meeting this fellow would end up being good luck or simply further misfortune. She could only hope that his current implied assistance was an indication of good. So, she followed.

Wow! Now that was a cool looking tree. She couldn't help but to pause and lift her face to take in the sight. There were other, taller trees around; but that just meant any lighting strikes would avoid their particular cover. It was certainly one of the oldest trees she had seen. She walked on for a closer look, only for a strong wind to shove against her back. She squeaked as she stumbled forward, just barely avoiding knocking straight into her shelter companion. "Geez! Dang storm came outta nowhere!" she huffed as she dropped onto the blanket.

Sure, make yourself at home. Cyrus pursed his lips together as he narrowly avoided being bounced against the wall of the tree. Still, he at least managed to hold his tongue as the stranger made herself comfortable on the blanket he had spread out. He supposed it was only to be expected since they were sharing the same space, but it didn't make him any more comfortable with a stranger being so close. Out of all things...he truly was the least friendly of any rangers in his group and yet he was the one who had wandered into this situation.

"There were some warnings, I suppose." He mumbled as he settled back, pressing up as close to the back of the tree as possible to give them space. "If you know the right signs." Cyrus was mostly frustrated at himself for getting so distracted by the flowers. But he had wanted to gather them to save the seeds for Sylus, if he wanted to try growing them next spring for his honey bees.

While it was tempting to just stay where she had fallen, Teagan stood again to walk closer to the entry where she shook off her hat and brushed off her clothes. They would be there for a while, and she didn't want to be sitting in a puddle any sooner than she had to.

If?! She turned to shoot a glare at the man, but paused and looked up contemplatively instead. Maybe now wasn't the best time to be sassy... "I know the signs, but I was nappin'." Not one for cuddling up to strangers herself, and now that she wasn't being shoved around by the wind, she leaned back against the trunk opposite from her companion. "By the way; name's Teagan. If ya care."

Cyrus simply quirked a brow as if questioning why he would care, but instead of verbalizing his initial thoughts the ranger simply nodded. "Cyrus." He offered back, resting against the rough bark of the tree as he listened to the wind howling outside. "Dangerous place to nap though." He added after a moment, the man's critical nature and sharp tongue getting the best of him again. "Too many wild beasts and roaming rogues, if you ask me." And this storm too...if she hadn't found shelter then few trees would protect them from the wild lightning strikes raging outside.

Teagan rubbed her arms a few times to chase off the chill of the damp and wind. Now would be a good time for a snack... Cyrus's observation made Teagan's eyes flick up curiously, and then a sharp smirk rose on her lips. "Ain't so scary. Been nappin' 'round here forever." She leaned back and used one hand to rifle through her pack. "I wouldn't suggest just floppin' down wherever, but lots of little nooks and places ta hunker down in safe enough." She flinched from a crack of thunder that snapped overhead. "Safe from a big ol' storm is another thing all tagether."

Perhaps that was a warning sign that even animals didn't want to bother with the other hybrid. Cyrus shrugged lightly at the explanation before watching her as she rifled through her pack. It reminded him that he probably would have to dig through his own supplies based on what she pulled out from her belongings. With this weather and how late it already was in the day it seemed that they would be sharing this space for the full night. It would be reckless to try otherwise especially if they couldn't see the damage from the storm in the darkness. "This storm definitely is something else." He assented finally. "We might as well be prepared for a night here. It'll be too dangerous otherwise." No one was going out in that, not with how rapidly things were progressing with the rain turning into hail and the thunder shaking the very ground beneath them.

"I have food if you need." Despite his prickly personality, the ranger wasn't about to let someone be too uncomfortable and was willing to share. It would hopefully keep any complaints at bay too so that he could simply enjoy the silence later. Cyrus dug through his belongings, allowing an apple to roll towards the stranger as he picked out a few more supplies to keep them through the night. At least he could use his bag as a pillow with his travel cloak as some sort of blanket since his travel one was currently beneath them on the ground. For now though he simply tried his best to get comfortable and prepare for the long awkward night that awaited them.

Teagan enjoyed feeling a good storm as much as the next person, but she also preferred to feel it knowing the safety of home was at her back. It was better when she knew she could simply get up and head inside to snuggle up in bed and listen to the power of nature. The rumbling from the ground was felt in every cell of her body, and it was was starting to get unsettling.

Not that she would let it show! "I got it," she assured. She pulled a stick of jerky from her pack just as the apple rolled against her foot. She blinked at it with surprise. Well then... With a little smile, she tossed the jerky at Cyrus with a nod. "Trade ya." She dusted off the apple, took a bite, and leaned back with a sigh. Time to settle in for the long haul.
